Motherhood in the Animal Kingdom | BBC Earth

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Mother hippos fight for their calves, bear mothers teach their cubs how to fish and mother elephants must choose between finding food or staying with their young. A journey into motherhood in the animal kingdom, arguably one of the hardest jobs there is.

    Without our intervention (mainly supplying the bamboo they need) and help with breeding, they aren't at risk of going extinct. But man, their lifestyle doesn't make sense. A carnivore that chose to only eat plants that offer little nutrition. It's worse than a Koala. Koalas at least evolved to have smaller brains that take less energy to nourish, but not Pandas. They're enormous and barely get by as it is. But despite my bias, they are important no less, and deserve to be in better conditions than a metal cage.

    The elephant mother 😢. Those camera people & the crew can’t not interfere? When the situation becomes so dire like that? They just film It & let the calf die while they have water, milk & foods in Their possessions ?

  • @PlumpsHubris

    @PlumpsHubris

    25 күн бұрын

    They’re legally bound and ethically bound to not interfere with the biological ecosystem. You have to be a spectator, they are a camera crew not trained professional or state approved carers from where they are from. They is a visitor. As sad as it is, they have no choice. Record or not even get the chance to see the beauty of nature.

    @@PlumpsHubris Shouldn’t legally and ethically include having physicians and veterinarians onboard to render appropriate care to people and animals? Why would anyone want to deliberately film or watch a mother elephant unable to save her baby?? I’ve seen many other videos where (trained) people have rescued baby elephants from drowning or other life-threatening perils; it can be done. I’m sure BBC Earth has a purpose and does good things. But, for me personally, I will not take another chance at opening another of their videos and have it be like this one. I unsubscribed, which is my personal choice based on my own opinion.

    @@luvcats120 hello nice to hear how you’re applying your logic and reasoning to this conversation. I kindly ask next time just don’t. As you’re just outright wrong. Anyone who takes up this role is duty bound to uphold ethical boundaries. Same as you can’t kill another animal you cannot save them. You’re there to be a visitor not to intervene with the balance of animals. You are also responsible for showing a realistic showing of the animal kingdom. You are not allowed to dramatise or show a fake representation of the animal ecosystem. The whole point of watching seeing an animal pass is to show the true brutal nature of this ecosystem we see from a far. Maybe do a bit of research if you care that much.

    @@PlumpsHubris Your comment was condescending and rude. Unless you are a highly educated animal expert, you have no right to tell me I am wrong just for expressing my opinion. For the record, I have done a lot of research about wild animals and, while I am not an expert in the field, I do have some knowledge. As I stated previously, I am not interested in watching videos showing the brutal nature of animals in the wild (no more than I would be to watch the brutal nature of how humans treat each other). I am aware that these things happen..I just don’t want to watch or see it. All people are different… this video affected me deeply; based on your comments, for you it appears to be business as usual, which is fine. I don’t call you out for “seeing nature as it is”. I would expect the same consideration simply for having a different opinion about this subject.

    This video caused me a lot of anxiety…If I had known what it was really about, I would not have watched. It was extremely stressful to watch animals suffering, especially the poor baby elephant at the end. I often wonder that in these situations, there is a film crew and probably experts in the area…could they possibly have had a way to save that baby elephant before it died? Couldn’t they have distracted the mother away for just a bit to go in and get him? I think I may have to unsubscribe. Videos like these are way too stressful, for me at least.
