Mother fights to save son lured by Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside | Investigates

Last year, more than 2,200 British Columbians died from toxic overdoses, according to the BC Coroner Service.
Ann Marie Sexton’s son, Chad, was one of the many people who died in 2021. Now she's fighting to help her firstborn enter recovery.

This is breaking my heart. I just happened upon this video. And there is a wonderful kind woman with a red hat and black coat that says Eastman on the back of it. I am in tears as she is helping my son. He is wearing the green coat at the beginning of the video. I live in Ontario. I feel hopeless and have tried to get my son off the street many many times. It is nice to know that there are beautiful people who help the most vulnerable. Thank you nice lady for being kind to my son. May God keep you and everyone safe.

I think all addicts, especially dealers should be sent to prison. This would be good for the addicts because they will at least have a better chance of recovering from their addictions. If the addicts are not mentally suitable for prison, they then should be forcefully held in a mental rehab program until they can show they're able to function properly. I know many will find this offensive but this will save a lot of lives, so if you care about people remaining alive, you should be supporting solutions like the ones I presented🙏

Addiction lures people there. Unaffordable housing leads people there. You need a reality check. How about going down to the east side and talking to some of the people down there. They’ll tell you their story. Coming from other provinces to Vancouver, trying to work, make ends meet to pay the rent, rent is too high, they end up homeless, and either selling drugs or get wrapped up in using them. And the provincial govt only looks at temporary solutions rather than permanent ones to help the homeless. No plan to get them off the street only to give the a “safe spot” to continue using, that isn’t a solution, they need to get them into housing, get them the help they need to deal with addiction, then move past it, deal with other issues, help them find work and then be independent providers for themselves.

Blah blah blah who cares... just endless cycle and yet we on the hook for these junkies who choose not to get clean, make up all these excuses.. I feel sorry that this mother goes through this but she needs to wake the hell up. Love is strong but reality is that her son does not want to change not even for her. So tell me, did this junkie change? Nope, probably has huge criminal record, I do not sympathize for these junkies. It's always the government fault but no one wants to take responsibility for how they choose to live life.

Ya we made a choice that first time and life obvious isn’t great if you made that choice but there is no choice after that if we have the true illness of addiction we were predisposed to that and yes we can recover I am but it truly becomes a sickness that is so hard to break.

The heart of the problem is when users "don't know what is in the drugs they are buying"? (8:50) If drug addiction was Good, then this is like saying: The problem with child pornography is only when the child does not verbally consent. Is the human heart Good; other-centered by nature? Do we honor Humility, or hate Him? Making this documentary, if you do not stand for Truth, you are a channel for lies.

I know that but if the food bank and the soup kitchen are not supporting them to do so. Situation may be different.

Cry me a F-ing River and take some personal accountability and responsibility for your actions and your outcome ... I could've been one of these people when I was 16, but I refuse to lose, I fought, scrapped, dumpster dive, starved, and worked hard for what I have and is still fighting and scrapping by now, the fight with life NEVER Ends until you dye, and that's how you're defeated or throw in the towel. No one give me nothing or showed my sympathy ... I earn what I have.
