In school I was bullied relentlessly. However, home was worse. One day my mom sent me to school with my hair half braided for a punishment. I didn't even remember what I did. It was a setup. That day the girl that had bullied me for over 7 years asked if she could finish my hair. Out of options, I agreed. She braided it nicely, hugged me and never bullied me again. The bullying continued at home, not at school anymore.

Peer group humiliation can be a very powerful tool to subdue an unruly child. The lie is that it's inherently wrong. But I dare someone to explain why, and by what standard are they judging wrong. A child needs boundaries and discipline. Most discipline doesn't include humiliation. However, if peer group acceptance is causing them to act up, then the threat of peer group humiliation will cause them to pipe down. This absolutely kept me and my six siblings in check. So I'm not taking it off the table, regardless of what the "status quo" says.

Teachers lie too don't take everything for the gospel and the truth this is such a shame this mother has cut off all her daughter here and humiliated her like this to be blessed to carry a child nine months in the womb and then destroy her mentally there's no telling what this young lady may do to her when she's older or she may just cut her mother lose but this is very heartbreaking everybody make mistakes like the man just saying this is what kids do they make mistakes adults make mistakes and we learn from the mistakes that we make when we're older even the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. THIS IS HORRIBLE AND SAD ON SO MANY LEVELS I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THIS YOUNG LADY WE DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN SCHOOLS AND DON'T KNOW THE TEACHERS WERE HONESTLY TELLING THE TRUTH OR THE MOTHER JUST SAID THAT WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON SOME OTHERS ARE JEALOUS OF THEIR CHILDREN IT SEEM LIKE IT THESE DAYS BUT THE BIBLE DID SAY Luke 12:53 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. AND WE SEE IT ALL THE TIME THESE TEACHERS SOME OF THEM ARE OUT OF CONTROL TOO SHE MAY HAVE BEEN DOING HER WORK SIT DOWN AND TALK TO YOUR KIDS AND SEE WHAT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE CLASSROOM AND WHAT'S GOING ON BUT IT'S SAD WE JUST GOT TO WATCH AS WELL AS PRAYING KEEP GOD FIRST OF ALL THINGS SO NOTHING IN THIS WORLD MATTERS BUT GOD KEEP HIM FIRST AND UNDERSTAND AND KNOW THAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE A BLESSING OR WHY THE CHILDREN YOU GOT IN YOUR CUSTODY OF CARE THAT YOU THE GUARDIAN OF THEY ARE TRULY YOUR BLESSING DON'T TAKE YOUR BLESSING FOR GRANTED

However, I do know that mom has always had waist-length hair & most likely; my intuition tells me; that she paid her to do it because she KNEW MY FATHER WOULD PROTECT/ Defend ME.Seeing me as a threat because everyone said we looked just alike; until recently & she was fearful of losing her throne position, in her mind 🤦🏽‍♀️ I am sorry that you experienced that abuse. CPS is also taking kids away from families that refuse to use their made-up pronouns. So that's no indicator of whether or not this was right or wrong. Will it create the outcome that the mother wants? That's the question. Hair can grow back, but an unruly child got one life to lose. But that's hard to explain to a generation that worships hair.

@Iamabundant I don't believe in public shaming, but a parent can choose to cut their children's hair. What bothers me about the whole situation is the amount of people that act like the girl is no longer pretty with short hair. I am more worried about the vanity and limited foresight of the call CPS generation. Mom probably should have been encouraged to get her a decent cut to help her adjust to the change. Kids usually adapt quickly if you don't make it an issue.

The therapist nailed it talking about this behavior acting as a pipeline to abusive relationships. My mother was similar to this, she didn’t do this exact thing, but LOVED to humiliate me, was abusive, would giggle and sing songs about my sadness while I cried (as a child!), and I found myself in abusive relationships into my mid twenties. We accept the “love” we think we deserve.

You’re likely right about the mom wanting attention. It’s just so hard to disciple some kids though. I see it at the store. The kids really have the parents in a chokehold. It kind of sucks but I kind of get the hair getting cut off. They used to make women cut their hair, albeit not all the way, in the military back in the day. More lenient now. My aunt had her hair chopped off and then forced to keep it shoulder length when she was in the military. Then when her kids would act up she would sometimes chop off their hair. Forces a certain compliance when it comes to certain problems. All kids need to be disciplined differently. My mom would yell at me and she would break my things… not a way for a parent to act but it forced me to comply. Love my mom but I don’t like her till this day. But it shows that as a parent you need to stay on top of your kids in terms of expectations when they are young. When they are older it won’t be much of a problem because they had a good foundation.

Fear and humiliation work... My son brought home crap grades, I told him I was going to school dressed as Jed Clampet to help him with his school work... He brought home all A's and one B and was apologizing for the B... Because he was CERTAIN I would do it LOL. I mean what I say and I have no shame ha ha. They were pretty good kids and are good hard working adults now. This little girl is exceptionally cute and is even cuter with it cut... I think it backfired. There are better ways to embarrass your kids into compliance.

Genuine question - why does the daughter just stand there and allow it? I’m a mother of 3 beautiful, polite and respectful, well disciplined teen girls (who often struggle to prioritise the things they should like getting schoolwork done, so normal teens) and I can guarantee if I tried anything like this they would yell and scream at me and physically try to stop me. She doesn’t even put up a fight. Is she in shock? Is she too afraid to stand up for herself because of past experience/abuse? This just strikes me as a really odd response. I at least expected her to pull away and say “mama no! Please no!”

The little girl tryed stopping her mom at first but then she gave up. It is a shock response and also an unhealthy fear response of her mother because the daughter does go through other types of abuse from her mom as well. I can tell by the video the daughter deals with this type of behavior from her mom all the time.

Omg, do you guys even know the story? If not don’t assume, the daughter had it coming to her the mom told the daughter that if she continued to do what she did then she would cut her hair off and record it and post it. so the daughter knew this was coming she just wanted to test her mother. And if you guys wanna argue with me go ahead I don’t care just don’t assume next time, next time make sure you know what is going on and what the reason was. The mother only said that her daughter was on some apps that she should not have been on and she was skipping classes and the mother told her daughter that for 3 MONTHS!! But the daughter didn’t care she keep getting a new account after her mother found her old ones. The mother did not let her daughter go to school like how she is now she let her daughter wear a wig so she wants embarrassed. The daughter said that she had it coming for her and she said it was okay and that she learned her lesson. It’s not like the mother hit her or anything like that you have to understand that backstory before assuming things!

Ocean Mergirl I totally agree with you on this one. This really ain't teaching her a thing besides being humiliated on a screen where millions of people can see. I learned talking to a child, teen and mostly an adult just takes a little bit of talking to. People can relate when you talk to them being calm not escalating the situation. The mother is triflin and looks like a clown. Why cut her hair, why not take her laptop away? or taking her cell phone away, or even telling her to stay in her room without any activities or a week. The mother could of had her daughter write a letter of how important it is to change her behavior. There are so many other ways of discipline. No, this clown taken the most precious thing from her and that is her hair. Well the good thing is hair grows, the bad is these actions will always be within her daughter that will make the situation worst when it comes to communicating. Bad home to grow up in. I can only imagine. The mother is suffering herself. Maybe counseling for the family. It's never too late.

She will get over it and will be OK. This is a minor bump in the road compared to failing a grade or a run-in with the law. This little girl needs to learn to OBEY her mother 100%... and as a father I would tell her, You do what your mother says. No exceptions. You have a complaint? You raise it to me respectfully and I will explain it and deal with it if there is a problem. That is how it should be done. But trust me that girl will be OK. This situation between these two probably would not have happened if there was a dad in the home.

And I loved putting kisses on it. The girl hated her bald head but would giggle that I loved kissing it and hugging her. I hope this girl has some support system other than crazy karen mom. The daughter may go along with her mother’s actions now as an adolescent but when she turns 18, sadly this will be at the height of a discussion the minute the mom and daughter has a disagreement about something. No matter how much the mother tries to make up for this, the daughter will instinctively react from the emotional abuse. The mother won’t realize what’s happening at first but eventually, she’ll start feeling it and by then, the damage to their relationship is already done.

This was hard to watch. My parents used traditional discipline, and it was done in private, as opposed to this new age nonsense of chastising your kid on social media for likes and views. It doesn’t even matter whether that was her real hair or not, the way she went about “punishing” her is wrong. All she did was display her bad parenting skills. It’s a wonder this stupidity is still trending. I hope DCFS gets involved because this could escalate into something more.

This is outrageous! As a parent, yes, you can discipline your child, but why would she do this on a video? Now, this poor baby will have to go to school to be bullied. I think CPS should intervene there's probably some deeper issues going on in the house. This is not how you discipline a child!

I saw this earlier in the week on another platform, it made me angry and so upset. What that mother did was cruel and wicked and there was no reason for going to that extreme. She said she doesn't believe in physical violence but what she did is physical as well as psychologically violent. There are so many other ways the child could have been punished, for example take way her phone, her privileges, ground her, perhaps confiscate some of her favorite outfits for a while. I felt so sorry for the daughter, she looked helpless and vulnerable, imagine what that has done to her confidence as a young girl. How would the mother like someone to chop off all her hair and post the video on Social Media for the whole world to see?!!
