Most Turbulent East Coast Ski Season Ever?
The East Coast’s 2023-2024 ski season can only be described as a roller coaster. In this video, we go through exactly how the East Coast’s ski season panned out from winter start to winter end, and we highlight some of the biggest factors that made it both one of the best-and worst-ski seasons in recent memory.

I just love how the state of New York and the Adirondacks are not even mentioned once.

Last I heard the Catskills were mentioned
My local resort, Timberline Lodge, has 34 inches in the forecast. We just got 50 in the last week. The season also started a month and a half late. And I’m on the west coast

My friends and I planned a Mount Snow trip almost three months in advance and early March I expected fairly bad conditions cause we had a week of almost 60-70 degrees in the NE but I was watching the forecast for almost two weeks and could not believe how lucky we were about to get. Possibly the most amazing snow day I’ve ever experienced. Runs being refilled with new pow by the time you got back up 😭

I went up to Killington twice in March this year. Got nervous when I saw the February conditions but couldn’t have been happier when I got there and had fresh powder days.

November 29th 2024 will be a day I remember for the rest of my life. Random Wednesday that I took off to go to Stowe for the first day of the season. They had gotten an absolute ton of snow, a bunch of it unforecasted. Ski Patrol was working their absolute hearts out getting as many trails open as possible. It ended with them opening Liftline and National at 2:00 PM for all of us that stuck it out. 100% natural snow, this never happens in November. Thank you to anyone working there that day. This season might have been terrible at times, but the amazing moments were truly that.

Went Ice Coast skiing for the first time this year and was very lucky to catch Killington during a early February storm that dropped around 10 inches.
Thank you for putting this together... always hard to be an east coast skier but this year was wild.
I was a Breton woods and Sunday river, one day it was grass the next it was sloshy snow then it was perfect powder just like that Over a foot overnight
I'm approaching 100 days on my season, and all the good ones (including the 4 best EC ski days I've ever had) all were in March and April. Heck, I was skiing the trees at Killington just last week. December thru mid-march was just at lot of ice and grass. The late season pow days were well worth the wait.

0:34 OMG thank you for visiting my home mtn gunstock!!!! I thought you guys would just pass over that lol.
All the resorts where I live are closed (western MA) but killlington is only 2 hr from me and they are still open.
I live in Vermont and I skied Colorado in mid march, I was gonna hang up the skies for the year, but I ended up skiing another 10 days in late march and early April, unreal season I’d consider it a great year
Just wanted to say: Both the structure and emphatic nature of the voice over content is excellent!
Excellent coverage! You described it perfectly. Thanks for giving love to east coast skiing 👍
from pa and tbh our ski seson was so bad my family resorted to driving up. I went to bolton valley in febuary with my school. It rained but there was decent-ish snow. i went to okemo in late early march, pretty bad conditions. I went to stowe in apirl....it was the best condition i had gotten all year. Tahoe couldn't even compete. Big pillows and soft powder. I went a few days before the eclispe, and god behold, ZERO LINES! cannot express how incredible those conditions where.
Great video as always, hit all the key points for this year's weird ski season. I'd rate the season overall a good one at the end of the day, as long as you live close enough to be able to take advantage of the better snow days.
The winters are moving more north. Almost every single snow storm VT got was rain or sleet here in the Berkshires (western ma). There was not a single day all year with enough snow to go into the woods. Skied here last 16 years that has never happened in my memory. Literally not a single actual pow day here all year. I had to go north to get my 2 pow days in 😢
@alexsternerup5636
Ай бұрын
And the late storms in late march and April that I skied barely hit southern/mid vt. Driving up from mass there was no snow until I was less than 30 mins from the mountain
Was in okemo with my parents and some family friends the weekend of that snow storm, it was just great skiing but my time got cut short that day because one of our friends car got stuck and my parents have bad knees but God felt like the west out there that day, it was my favorite east coast day of the season
As bad as the rain events were in Maine, the resorts, SundayRiver and Sugarloaf recovered remarkably fast, due to great snowmaking and cold temps. I got 42 great days in at the two, and I think the season was probably the best overall out of the last 3 winters, due to the great pre-Thanksgiving snows. Both SR and Sugarloaf ran their seasons a little later than the year before. Heck the park at the bottom of Sugarloaf probably still has a couple feet of snow. I was just there a few days ago, and it had plenty, kids were still throwing flips.
You needed to have daily access to N-VT, N-NH to really win this year.
Accurate description. There were some great days for conditions this season, and others not so much. But it was entirely unpredictable. Rough season for planned family ski trips and air travelers who planned their trip for the usually reliable late-february/early March days. I really would not suggest planning a visit to the east coast long in advance, but if your timing was good there were some really special days this year.
I skied Sugar Mountain in North Carolina(I think you are classifying it as mid-Atlantic) in late January, and I was worried about warm temps up until I hit the mountains. Then the temps dropped to below freezing, and by the time I hit Boone, I was worried about driving in snow. I had three perfect days of skiing with the mountain looking like a proper resort with everything covered in snow, not just the runs. I'm ready for the Rockies now.
Living in Maryland, I am so grateful to have had the flexibility to get to Vermont 5 times this winter, 3 of the trips during the Miracle March. The time in the car was absolutely worth it
I skid the weekend of the March blizzard as well as the weekend following the April snowstorm.
Great video. Unfortunately, we didn't get much of a March Miracle in the Ottawa region. Tremblant had a good day or 2. But, nothing like Jay, Stowe, Killington, and Whiteface. Fingers are crossed for 24/25!

Why would you go to Tremblant being an Ottawa local? Im from Ottawa, and avoid Tremblant and its brutal lines at all costs, and go to Mont Ste Marie for most weekends (no lines, better value, better expert terrain and glades if you know where to find them), but if I'm looking for an east coast destination resort, I go to Whiteface, Jay Peak, Stowe, or Killington, all of which blow tremblant out of the water terrain wise.
@GoodTrails
Ай бұрын
@@johnsmeith3913 Mostly I go where the snow is good. Tremblant catches a lot of storms that seem to sneak under Mont Ste Marie. The glades are also better at Tremblant. If you can get a Ski Max pass, it doesn't cost that much more than MSM and the lines are not bad on week days. Otherwise, I would prefer Jay - but it's a long drive for a 1 day trip. For weekend trips, it's Jay, Whiteface or Stowe.
Went to Stowe the first week of March. Was ~40 and raining until we left and then 8 inches of snow overnight. the best skiing was the first week of April during the eclipse/before. Then too warm
I was up at sugarloaf and Sunday river during the rain storm and it was REALLY BAD. The some of the towers on the chondola at Sunday river were almost completely washed away. Sugarloaf was closed for two days after the storm and Sunday river was closed for a week. 4:14
I was very bummed about this season going into March, but I think I actually ended skiing more, deeper powder this season than any in recent memory. 18"+ days at Killington, Bretton Woods, Wildcat, Attitash... all in mid March and early April.
It was a great season at Waterville Valley due to snowmaking, grooming and a high base elevation. I was only disappointed once and I skied about 60 days at WV. The resort lays it on thick thick thick with snowmaking. Plenty of hotel rooms in the village so I would say it is safe to book a vacation there.
33s Tiger Steeps at my Home Mountain Gunstock! Yeah it was thin this season!
went backcountry skiing in the Tobacco Roots ....SW Montana last weekend summited Fridley and got sun burned.....my nose is peeling.... skiied past a sow bear and her cubs playing so fast we almost missed them....snowed a lil bit in valleys last couple days....we need more snowpack in the mountains or its going to get dry fast
Sadly my trip to Sunday River that had snow in the forecast late February didn't happen so I got a nice icy trip.
Suggestion: place the names of trails somewhere on the bottom as the trails appear on the screen, so we know where the enticing looking trails are located.
At so many points this year I was like fuck, the season is over... And then two weeks later we were skiing DEEP pow in the Whites. Wild ride.
Love the videos but you should consider getting some acoustic foam panels to reduce the echo in your recording.
i didn't think the loaf was gonna make it to even mid april at the beginning of march.
im in tahoe we just got a foot and a half in may 4
Can you go to timberline wv
How come you never mention any new york ski resorts in the east coast reviews. I see videos from Hunter mountain but what about the incredible whiteface mountain or gore or holiday valley?
Late December, early January, and early March were the worst of times. The rest of the season was one of the best in recent memory in northern VT though. Including this early May. Steins and superstar are still going strong.
Under 1 hour🎉
Looks sick if it's good, but damn can it be variable.
Sorry guys, I started skiing too late this season. If I started earlier, there’d be more snow. I’ll take the blame. I will start earlier next season. Sorry 🙂↕️
I know he’s gonna talk about the day

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
Why do you always forget sugarloaf? It’s the biggest mountain in the north east and has some of the most advanced terrain out there. Sad it never gets mentioned or has its own ranking video
Saddleback, take me home.
However…😂
