My old 2015 Ram 5.7L Hemi has 230K miles and I've never had a problem other than the fair wear n tear (brakes, tires, lightbulbs, etc). I hauled plenty of loads and worked it hard. Gave it to my daughter and bought a 2023 Ram 5.7L Hemi. Love these trucks and they've better than I expected.

They last 20 years, But those are the ones built 20 years ago. My 2001 Chevy Suburban has 320K miles on it and doesn't even use a drop of oil on long trips. It's 12 years old, so why can't they make a truck that lasts that long now????? It's partly because government tries to be their partner. I don't want a new truck and I'd buy an old one if I needed one!!!!

Nissan trucks are underrated in my opinion. After several Ford trucks that gave me exceptional service my last one being a 2002, I bought a Nissan Titan Pro 4X 2023. The engine does not have cylinder deactivation or stop/start. The 9 speed works great. I love it! The big discount I got off sticker was the final deciding factor in the purchase and then they financed it a 0%. It's a win!

I have to agree with you. I’m 60 so I’ve owned a lot of vehicles. Nine were Nissan, most were purchased new and all were much more reliable than any other brand I’ve owned. For 2023, the great exterior looks and upscale interiors of the Ram Long Horn and Limited have my attention. They make all other trucks look plain or even ugly, in comparison IMO. But my practical side is warning me that I might be sorry if I let my eyes make this purchase decision, rather than my decades of ownership experience. The Titan is not the best looking but the 2004 and 2017 Titans I owned, both served me beyond expectations.

Agreed. Titans are super underrated, I have a 2020 pro4x myself. With that said, I wouldn't buy any other Nissan vehicle lol. They got their trucks right but that's about it.

Trucks being between $60-80k made me look long and hard. The Titan reserve for around $60k with a standard 5yr 100,000 mile warranty vs the 3/36 from everyone else sold me. Best truck I've ever had!

A Nissan Master mechanic told me they had lots of problems with leaking oil, but this was 10 years ago.

Just hit 125,000 miles in my Ram 1500 hemi. No issues

I bought a 2019 ram 1500 and it's been amazing zero issues . I like it so much I bought a 2023 . Ram makes a great truck .

And Eureka that was a full redesign bottom up first year model. I have the identical experience with no recalls in 3 years and only one under warranty service for the wiper motor park switch, full disclosure my drive shaft is clunking the bit cuz it needs to be lubricated but it drives like new with almost 100,000 miles

I totally agree, Tim! I bought a 19' RAM 1500 Laramie new in summer of 2018; Fully loaded. It was $43k. Now, the same truck five years later is almost $78k, and it has been de-spec'd so much that it barely resembles the same truck. I am so happy I jumped from GM back in 19' and bought me a Chrysler truck haha. I will never go back to GM now. RAM has won my heart and wallet.

I owned a 2014 Ram Sport and a 2020 Ram Rebel, loved both trucks, transmissions felt bulletproof but both had the hemi tick that drove me crazy. So now back in Silverado with no issues.

I have Ram 1500 4x4 with 144k no issues Really runs like great! Kaveri maintained it great, only compliant is sometimes the 8 speed necks at low speeds.

I'm as big of a Ram fanboy as they come, and yes Ram's use of a single upgrade engine(and getting rid of the diesel) plus the bulletproof 8HP transmission helps tremendously.(this is true of Nissan using the equally reliable Endurance 5.6 as the single engine). But with Ford offering 7 engines, 3 cab configurations, several layers of electronic options, etc, they're going to have higher exposure to issues, plus they sell an extraordinary amount of trucks.(supplier issues likely contributed to their issues as well). I can also see why the Tundra's numbers were depressed because so many owners of '07-'21 trucks upgraded from the most reliable vehicle since a GM 3800 and expected the same. But that isn't the case judging from the Tundra forums. (Chevy using the 2.7/5.3/6.2/3.0Dmax also likely depressed their ratings). I'm curious on long-term reliability of the Lightning. Ford already has a stop sale and production halt in place because of battery issues. They've also announced a new battery and propulsion system for the 2024 m/y. The R1T is likely lower for many reasons. It has far more moving parts than the Ford(air suspension, power retractable tonneau, the pass through on in the bed, etc) plus so many of its electronics are proprietary and not shared.

Best interior and room fit and finish

My pick truck is a dodge ram, 4X4 1997 with over 200k and runs fine. Body is good (driven in Michigan since new, even through all the winters and salt). I have had it rust inhibitor sprayed on it most years since 2003.

Oil pressure fluctuations concerned me on my GMC 2.7 turbo until I found out that it has a variable oil pump that supplies oil on demand and it varies the pressure.

'03 F150 5.4L. 218K. Biggest issue was I had to have the rear diff rebuilt at 212k. Lots of landscaping and pulling a TT took its toll. Intake had to be replaced at 195k due to a leak. Upper ball joints about the same time. Other than those issues, nothing major. Oil changes religiously at every 5k. Fuel filters every third oil change. Changes the plugs at 105k. If the wheels ever fall off, I'll weld them back on and keep on truckin.

I know fleet owners with over 500k km on their 3rd gen Hemi's, 2014 I believe. They buy them every year and swear they are the best. I think people on the internet and the court of public opinion, with their brand bias, should not be listened to. I've had great luck with my 2018 Ram 1500 Hemi I bought from new. 87k miles and I've had to replace 2 exhaust manifolds (single broken bolt on each due to warping), 2 front wheel bearings (1 failed, replaced the pair) and the uconnect digitizer, along with brakes and fluid changes. Oh also sway bar end links and bushings. I consider this quite good compared to other vehicles I've owned. Ball joints and shocks remain original. Pretty darn good!

I just talked with a mechanic and he said they see rams all the time with issues so i dont think i believe ram is number 1. Lots of used Rams for resale on the market and this is the second mechanic who has said to stay away from Ram. Both have worked on them for years.

Thanks Tim. Sorry, but i do not believe anything consumer reports has to say. They are not the same company they were 30 years ago. Greed is alive and well. I would say, GM does not pay them enough money to move their products up on the list. What years did your father work for GM? Did he work on the line? Agreed, maintenance is key. Some people can break a anvil, and they will blame the product instead of themselves.

I have a tundra and its a great truck but i am so sick of the dealer add ons i just bought a ram with $10,000 off msrp with no add ons.

People are more picky about things because trucks cost up to 6 figures now and they shouldnt have ‘weather stripping issues’.

I have to agree that RAM has been doing some serious upgrades over the past 3-4 years, and the reliability has gone skywards! I have a 2020 RAM REBEL with Hemi that is now 3 years old with 50 + k miles, and it's never been back to the dealers only once for a recall, and that was for the tailgate. Mine was fine, and didn't need any adjustment or fixing.

Shouldn't have any problems until 100k miles and no major issues until 150k miles plus. Vehicles are garbage now. Timing chains go, transmissions fail, engines blowing up, all before 100k

With my 2022 f150 transmission problems started after 6000 kms. 4 appointments in a year - not fixed yet. On top of that my 3rd brake light cracked after winter, and now moisture in a front fog light. Also 2 recalls. Basically with service appointments my truck was in a shop 9 times in one year ( 13 month to be exact) - pretty much every month. 35k kms Built tough - LOL @@alexdetagxi8148

I've driven nothing but GM products for 23 years straight and have had few issues, none requiring major repairs on the engine or transmission.

When I was a young 'whipper-schnapper' the first vehicle I purchased new was a 1992 Chevy K-Blazer (renamed Tahoe a couple of years later), that thing was an absolute POS! Theoretically, I should have stayed away from GM for years to come...but, my 2000 Silverado, 2003 Suburban, 2007 Silverado HD and 2015 Suburban have all had stellar reliability (maybe just luck). Just this weekend, I ordered the replacement for our 2015 Suburban, a 2024 GMC Sierra Denali 3500HD...I am hopeful that it will be just as reliable as my GM's have been since 2000.

@Mikenb11 _ - The old (pre-1990) GM trucks and SUVs were like driving jello on wheels. Not good at all. The small SUVs like the new Blazer were better but didn't get very good gas mileage and the 4WDs would slip into 4-hi while going down the freeway causing the transmissions and transfer cases to burst into flames. The cars weren't bad but the trucks and SUVs were horrible.

When you were talking about volume players, around minute 8:20... that's the problem with the way the rating is done. It should not be number of issues, it should be number of issues per vehicles sold for that model year. Otherwise, I appreciate the comparison and explanations! I agree that Consumer Reports picks brands that they like and trashes ones that they don't. I don't trust their testing methods. They are wholly inadequate.

Most reliable 2023?? In my opinion, you can't measure reliability for at least ten years! Let me know what the most reliable truck is 20 years out, and then I will know what truck to buy.

If only you had, had a crystal ball and could have seen into Toyota's future.

2018 I purchased fifth generation ram, 1500 black appearance package, off-road package, 5.7 hemi. 70,000 miles today I still have the truck zero issues. Still has the same oil pressure as it did when it was brand new. I traded a brand new Ford 2016 eco-boost for the ram. Then I traded a 2015 GMC sierra for the Ford I’m very happy with the ram. I’ve been thinking about looking into the new Colorado or the GMC canyon. I was wondering what the gas mileage would be in ..they fix the eight speed automatic I heard there were some issues.

It’s interesting that Consumer Reports isn’t putting Toyota at the top. They used to recommend Toyotas for every car and truck category pretty much. Ford needs to learn from Toyota and get their trucks more reliable by focusing on quality and reliability, instead of constantly changing them every year. They just keep digging their own hole deeper!

That's because Toyota is a very conservative company and they unlike other automakers don't do complete redesigns every few years. Instead, they do small refreshes and incremental changes to work out the bugs in their models. Look at both the Tundra and Tacoma, around for a long time with a refresh here and there till finally last year they gave into the pressure and had to a redesign for the Tundra.

My historical observations about Toyota are that they are generally a very reliable vehicle (I've owned several) and actually stand behind what they sell when problems arise. I've never owned a Dodge vehicle myself but I've known a few Dodge pick-up owners over the years and most of them, after the vehicle reaches a certain age, spend more time under them than in them.

They didn't throw in a free oil change

I had my 2019 5th gen Ram 1500, with the 5.7 hemi under the hood. The truck is solid with 40k on the odometer. However I fear future Rams Wont have the hemi under the hood starting in 2024. The new Hurricane Turbo in line 6 replacing the hemi may be a problem. The MPGs gain is very minimal, nothing beats the the 5.7 hemi.

I’m a Toyota guy and have been for a long time , I do own a 2021 Tacoma 4x4 off road in a automatic and do love it and never going to get rid of it , BUT if I were to buy a 1/2 ton truck today hands down it would be the ram no questions asked I can’t stand the new tundra the looks or that turbo/ hybrid system they have in there & not a fan of ford or GM these days at all . Ram would be my go to full size truck !

Ram is going to a 6 cylinder twin turbo as well.

My biggest beef with Ford right now is embracing pride with their trans flag colored truck. I need a work vehicle, not a truck that will sleep with other trucks.

You have to go back 10-20 years to prove reliability. The biggest problem is electronics now a days. Remember back in 2008-9, GM had a hybrid truck, with rear wheel steering available. They didn’t sell, but were not available at dealers. I wonder how reliable they were?

From reading all the comments one thing is obvious. There is not one clear winner everyone agrees on. Every manufacturer has its pros and cons. They are all overly expensive and are not getting cheaper. Also V8s are going away and turbo 6cyl are taking over. I went with a ‘23 tundra in January and absolutely love it. I’ve had a ‘18 Silverado that was plagued with issues. Co-worker has a ram TRX that spends more time at the dealership then the road. There’s good vehicles and bad ones. Just a toss up whether you get lucky or not.

great video. My qquestion would be reliability of the Duramax 3.0. Lifter problems are in the 5.3 and 6.2 but what problems are they having with the 3.0 diesel. Ford seems to be having 10 speed trans issues. i wish they would break down each motor and trans combination.

I've haven't heard of any issues with the new 3.0L Duramax diesel. There was an issue with a long crank, no start, but that's been resolved.

I have a 2014 5.7 1500...it has been absolutely bulletproof. It is 10 years old and with 0 issues so I really have no reason to sell it. Speaking about buying 1st year vehicles...asked the Tundra buyers how happy they are with those heaps! Lets see Tundra issues: failed exhaust manifold, failed oxygen sensor, faulty fuel pump, failed air injection pump etc 🤣🤣🤣

I am 60 and have owned a lot of vehicles, especially after getting married, lol. I will be buying a new truck this year and really do not want another Big 3 vehicle, although the Fords have been much better than the Chev/GM, or Dodge Ram. I will be getting a Toyota Tundra. Probably the Crewmax SR5 L.

Trucks are costing over $55K problems should be minimal. Not sure I trust Consumers Reports as i would have some years back. For that matter not sure what media source to trust anymore. But enjoy your channel.

So I saw some new tundras on the lot and looked at the window seals and yes, they still don't meet up.

Makes sense to me. Except the Rams turn into rust buckets here in NY.

You will. My 12 ram has been bulletproof up until recently at 240k miles. It’s still running but recently developed a cylinder 7 misfire that I haven’t figured out yet and exhaust leak

$70,000-$100,000 trucks They didn’t workout the bugs for ecodiesel. Hemi Tick. Ford issue is cam phasers 3.5. GM issue cylinder deactivation. Known issues for years with all big 3. Ford knows how to market their vehicles better than any manufacturer!

@@tylerbuck9347 Yes, that’s correct. Both personal and leased trucks; my brother and I own an open pit mine and quarry and a mechanical engineering consulting business for 45 yrs. Between the two sites and our engineering firm we use considerable half tons along with our heavy equipment.

Well that's interesting considering what the GM guy said about direct injection being reliable.

Thanks for the info! It would be awesome to see a deep dive into how Consumer Reports, JD Power, etc. actually calculate their dependability/reliability metrics. As you importantly noted with regard to smaller output vehicles such as the Tundra and Titan, are there appropriate statistical adjustments made to compare those to the larger players, or are they failing to actually compare apples to apples?

Consumer Reports and JD Power are completely different animals. CR is only compiling and reporting the data they're getting back from owner's surveys. If the owners lie or exaggerate on the surveys, there's nothing they can do about that.

From what I could locate online, it appears the JD Power Durability Study is an ownership survey. So wouldn't your concern over surveys from Consumer Reports hold true for JD Power as well?

Consumer Reports and I have a very different criteria on what any product should be judged by.

Titan fit and finish must have been a blind man's experience.

There seems to be a massive gap in reporting on reliability. CR doesn’t give enough detail on problems, and their entire site seems so skin-deep. Some of these other sites seemed promising but actual penetration into the market seems so low, like carcomplaints, just seems like no one is using it at this point to report issues. I don’t know what the solve is, but it’s tremendously frustrating as a consumer. I have an f150 with 20k miles and a failing transmission and I’d like info on what to do and what else I could buy that might be reliable, but the information is as unreliable as the trucks it seems.

Buy a RAM 1500. Best V8 on the market. Best automatic tranny in the world. Look it up.

Could NOT get past “Ford F50”. It was too annoying. 150! 1 50! F-1 50! F-150!

Even weather stripping issues are reliability issues. When you buy a new vehicle and there’s no problems of any sort that require you to take your vehicle in to try to get fixed, it’s what you want. When your new truck is falling apart at the seams and you’re always dealing with some issue…. BUT HEY THE ENGINE IS FINE!!! it’s not what you want. Ownership shouldn’t be a hassle. Also, when the small things aren’t well thought out or aren’t well put together, then it really makes you think the big things are only a matter of time.

I would toss in some caution wrt car complaints website. I checked for my 2020 Silverado 3500. It doesn't list many, but it lists the same DEF problem multiple times and under multiple categories even though it was only 1 problem. This listing problem artificially inflates the displayed data graphs, yielding them completely useless as there is no way of knowing how systemic the false accounting data exists.

Ram I don’t know, tundra is good truck , Nissan Titan also I have one I bought in 2010 and still driving fine

I think this is about right, I had a GMC sierra, and had nothing but problems with that then end up having to do a lemon law buy back on it but I will never anymore GM products ever again because of all the inconvenience I went through with that piece of crap

Everyone knows Toyota is number one in reliability and service.

Consumer Reports gave Ford a high ranking when they released the 6.4 super duty diesel. 😂 we all know how terrible that motor was along with the 6.0. I had both it financially hurt me. The only truck that was reliable for me was the 2010 raptor as you can see in my picture. 200k on the clock and still runs good, last ford I will ever own, will never purchase a FORD again.

Yes, I remember how Ford swore up and down that they had fixed the issues when the 6.4 replaced the 6.0. My Dad paid the price, by my estimate, he put at least $10k into his F350 to keep it runnin'. Thankfully they came out with the 6.7, which while not flawless, was a huge improvement over the 6.0/6.4. My Dad followed up his F350 by purchasing a Ford/Winnebago Class C, the engine (6.8 V10) then blew up and had to be completely replaced at around 60k. I'm not anti-Ford actually, I still give them a look every time I have to replace my truck(s), but I have still never bought one. I had one Ford car that didn't have a single problem over the 75k that I owned it.

I am a former Ram owner. In my experience, Rams have good engines but an inferior body construction. Older trucks will have electrical and seal problems. They might be a good choice if you want to work the truck hard and sell after a few years. But if you want to keep the truck for 10-15 years, I would recommend going with another brand.

Is there anything showing reliability / problems as a percentage of overall volume? I'm not sure comparing raw numbers across brands makes sense unless I'm missing something. For example - if you sell 30k vehicles and there's 100 problems, that doesn't compare to selling 120k vehicles with 100 problems.

@@Pickuptrucktalk I really like your videos - very practical. I think it would be valuable to the consumer to get a normalized look at all the brands and their real reliability/problems. It wouldn't be that hard to do I'm thinking. Just use the complaint numbers on the website you showed us as the numerator and unit sales as the denominator.

Thanks Tim. Hopefully, we will see what they say about the HD's as well in the near future. As I recall, last year the reliability of the HD's was almost exactly flip-flopped as compared to the 1500's (of course excluding Toyota/Nissan).

I'll have midsize and HDs out hopefully this week. Got quite the backlog at the moment.

I am THIS close to buying a 2021 Sierra 1500 5.3 V8. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. This would be my very first truck. What do you guys think. Would this be a good buy? Has less than 50k miles

How the fuck does the trucks with twin turbos score higher on reliability than the Titans naturally asperated v8???

I feel bad for people who don't believe this kind of stuff. Rams 5.7 has been one of the most reliable engines for ages, it's been redesigned and perfected and you can put that truck under a lot of work and pressure over the years and it will without a doubt outlast the competitors. I've seen it multiple times to. They're pretty good and I'd put my money towards that for a long term truck to use for work.

People get heated about these results, taking sides as if this is about football teams... LOL.

I mean, I don’t know how anyone can believe what consumer report says people do realize that half the time there’s ads on their website and pages that send you to their website from auto makers. Also, as far as rams go there’s six people at my work that leased Rams when they were dirt cheap during Covid, and every single one of them switched brands because they got sick and tired of being stranded at a traffic light and their truck wouldn’t move and they had to turn the knob shifter to park and drive like 5times, and two of those six blew torque converters in the trucks had less than probably 10,000 miles on them. Those hemi motors, the infamous tick that they never fixed and their transmissions have an always will be garbage. I don’t care what fanboys says. They love them and they’re great trucks they’re trash made by Fiat.

My dad’s 2021 ram 1500 has had 3 or 4 recalls. My 2012 Nissan frontier has had 1 since I bought it new. I think recall’s should count against said brand

Not necessarily true. Toyota and Nissan have issued plenty of recalls on their cars too, but recalls aren’t a bad thing. Sometimes recalls can occur to fix an unexpected problem, but sometimes recalls are issued proactively to refine current designs and avoid potential problems that can occur in the future. Toyota and Nissan issue a lot of recalls proactively to avoid problems in the future and other manufacturers can do the same. At the end of the day, recalls are admission of fault by the manufacturer and they become committed to fixing the problem. That’s why recalls are a good thing.

I've been a consumer reports fan for years. I have lost trust in them. I've noticed several reliability ratings that did not make any sense.

For 60 to 80k they should be reliable ..... but sadly there getting worse .... and you can't predict the reliability... only way to know is to drive it 200k miles then you can decide . So if a model has been the same for 5 years and they all have done well and they haven't changed it ... then you can predict it.

How many documented waste gate failures were there? Another channel said it was less than 10 trucks. Genuinely curious. 5.7 Tundra is hands down the most reliable. I’ve spoken to more people I can remember that have 300k plus on them. Met a guy in Moab driving cross country last fall towing a trailer with his 2007, said it had 599k on it and it’s never been back to the dealer.

Toyota doesn't issue an official number. It was really small though looking back at the grand scheme of things.

Ford, Chevy and Ram all have camshaft and lifter failures and need major engine work at relatively low mileage. Trim, buttons and knobs falling off! After all these years of building vehicles they still can’t get it right, give me a break! Everyone knows that Toyota makes the most reliable vehicles on the road. Toyota may have an issue from time to time, but they will fix it without giving you the runaround. Most Toyota dealerships are very good to their customers and will do the right thing(as long as it’s not abuse that caused the issue). This has been my experience over the last 12 years. I was a Ford guy and my brother a Chevy guy, but we are no longer $70,000 dollars on a truck just to fight with the dealership to get something fixed!

My 2020 RAM 1500 transmission failed at 35K miles....and I never towed anything with it....6 weeks so far in a rent a car and just an ETA for 2 more weeks for when the transmission will arrive at the dealer.

By and large the eight-speed transmission in the ram is bulletproof and almost twice as reliable as Ford and Chevy, and furthermore as I work at an F dealership Eddie transmission repair is two to three months out just to get looked at, and good luck on Parts availability

Predictive reliability.

I have a 2021 Silverado trail boss and other than the rods and lifters failing 2 times and the battery dying it’s been a great truck. No rattles or squeaks inside and nothing falling apart. And it has 16k miles on it

Sorry that you had those issues! As I recall, there was about a 3-4 month period back in 2021 when the GM trucks produced had a bunch of bad lifters (apparently a supplier issue). Hopefully, your newest lifters were produced outside of the problematic time window. I haven't had lifter failures on my 2015, but I installed the Range AFM Disabler right after the warranty ended. They make a DFM disabler as well (applicable to your Silverado), I would consider installing it as soon as your warranty is over, should help out with the longevity of your engine...especially since the GM small blocks are known to be very durable and long-lasting outside of the lifter failure issue. Actually, my 2015 Suburban has been one of the most reliable vehicles that I have ever owned.

If I had those issues that truck would be gone! Just gonna happen again. I would never buy a truck that had deactivation on their cylinders! They will never last.

General Motors has gone down in quality so much small town. Lots of vehicles sitting around waiting for parts due to the strikes. You don’t see this at Toyota dealerships.

I agree 100% about Ford. They don’t know how to get out of their own way.

Good job Tim, well rounded conversation. I'd buy any of those trucks on the list, save and except for the Tundra. Our experience has been primarily with Chevy trucks and Ford trucks. After 45 yrs of buying and working these trucks, I have no complaints or regrets with any of them. My trucks make me money; I can't afford to have problems. It's my firm belief that I'm part of the majority and there's a slim percentage of owners who have had problems and then there's the fanboys that are only here to promote "their brand". Imagine, if you can, selling yourself and identity out to a brand of vehicle........ actually identifying yourself by that brand. Boggles the mind.....

Sir, you may have stepped outside of your skill set here with your romantic ideas about Toyota? I've worked in the Northwest Territories and Alaska as both a mechanical engineer, a metalurgist and a mining consultant. More times than I can remember, maintenance crews had to warm the oil pans of a lot of bow ties and blue ovals just to get the fluids flowing again. Honestly, I don't recall any Toyota trucks in these work sites. Not to say people don't use them in the cold somewhere, but please.... it's not exclusive.

Ram 1500 BigHorn or Ford F-150 XLT? Towing a wake boat or pontoon. Otherwise, daily driver with normal family driving and trips. I know the Ram has amazing riding quality, but Ford seems to have better fuel economy. Suppose it all depends on preferences. Thoughts though for this community?

That was definitely true in the 80s with the D/W series.

I have 2019 Silverado LTZ. I ordered it directly to the factory, and it took almost 3 months until it was delivered. I had a lot of recalls, but it's working fine for me. I think the majority of problems with GM are their headquarter customer service. People are frustrated with them. GM's local factory representatives are just a bunch of nonsense moron people who are living in denial. You have to be continuously in a fight with them to take care of the problems. Thanks to my dealer, I got what I needed; otherwise, I was completely screwed. I'm in Los Angeles area. I will look at the other brands when it comes to changing my truck. I've been a GM loyal customer for years, but I came to the point that customer satisfaction means nothing to GM. If you remember, when the new Gen of Silverado was announced, GM's engines were talking over 700,000 miles tests before releasing for mass production. It was just BS. Sensor issues, leaking rear windows, ... are the basics that started showing up at less than 10,000 miles.

I guess ram keeping the same dinosaur v6 and Hemi are a good thing. I keep hearing bad news about new fords and their quality issues and gm products the same. In terms of issues reported, Ram has been quiet.

They need to make vehicles like Toyota most reliable and not totally changed every few years. The bugs are fixed and most reliable to-date but suv is the 4runner but changing 2024 after over a decade. The few miles gained is not worth the recalls and breakdowns on the new production models

First, when you get a chance to talk to the manufacturers, PLEASE TELL THEM THAT WE NEED A REAL TRUCK,AND NOT JUST HALF TRUCKS!!! ( 6 "ADULT" CREW CAB 8FT BED!!) IN 1/2TON 3/4TON AND 1TON SINGLE REAR WHEELS!!! Also, since Tesla has had Electric Big Rigs for over 15 years that can tow over 80,000lbs for over 500 Miles, so why can't they use one of those Electric motors to power the front wheels, and then have a inline 4cyl 5.0L twin Turbo Diesel that's exactly like a Real Big Rig except for being a 4cyl and not 6cyl and make sure that it can tow 12,000lbs for 500 Miles on Electric and then the Diesel will have 2 280Amp Chargers to charge the Electric Batteries within 50 miles or one Hour at 2000 RPM's and then switch back to Electric once fully charged... Half Ton needs to be Totally AIR-RIDE FOR A SMOOTH RIDE and to adjust for a level load while Towing!! This isn't Rocket science!!! Everything has been invented and just needs to just be put together!!! Also why don't they bring back the 2 speed rear-end gears???? I used to drive a big rig that was made in the 30's that had a 2speed rear-end for logging trucks, and then they could have like a 288 gears when not Towing and then switch to 388 gears for Towing up to 20,000lbs then it can get 30+MPG'S not Towing and 20+ Towing 12,000lbs on the Diesel engine while charging the batteries... Then we can cross the country on 1 tank of fuel!! And we need it NOW!!!! THANKS

CR has had it in for GM since the early ‘70s that I know about, no explanation, granted American cars were pretty bad back then but GM was their primary target.

genuinely curious if the inline 6 from fiat is gonna last and be reliable. One of the Tundra Forums I follow is a few people have already had engine failures so hopefully toyota can bring it back and come back to the top

The Hurricane better damn well be reliable. They had it in development for 6 years and delayed it twice to ensure top quality. We will see.

I’d be interested in a survey about the general quality of the service you can expect when something does go wrong. My general perception is, I have more confidence in the average Toyota service department to be responsive and fix a problem with their product than, say, another brand. But, that’s just my perception. I know it probably varies dealership to dealership, probably even case by case. But, generally speaking, which manufacturer’s service is the best?

Who are you addressing your question to? No one on this forum is equipped with the information needed other than to give you a biased or general impression.... In 45 years of buying and working Ford and Chev trucks, I've yet to have a serious issue with any dealership. Now, your Toyota salesperson will take issue with that............

Good stuff Tim. CR has a good scientific process for their in-house evaluations. Survey data though (as far as I can tell) is always limited to people who are their subscribers. So it only reflects the complaints and accolades of CR subscribers. Doesn’t mean the data is bad, but just a potentially skewed picture. Is a CR subscriber more or less likely to X, Y, Z vs non-CR subscriber? Idk. Also, appreciate your comment about volume of complaints and percentages. If Ford makes most trucks any problem(s) can look big in terms of number of people experiencing them. If the failure rate is low as a percentage then that may be less concerning. Also to be considered is how the manufacturer addresses the concern and whether it’s an annoyance or debilitating. Toyotas wastegate issue was debilitating for those affected, happened relatively early in the life of the vehicle, and the wait for a fix felt like an eternity given how debilitating the issue was for owners. Love your channel and thought-provoking articles like this.

Consumer Reports isn't going to know which 2023's are most reliable. Unless they are clairvoyant.

Dodge, the company known for producing cheap junk for around 100 years is suddenly going to be the most reliable now. I do not understand the math.

difficult to accept any ratings and any representations in this bs world of trucks. how can reliability be assessed after only 1 year in service?

Tim, I’ve not found consumer reports reliable in my life. Their reviews have just never aligned with my real life experience. As far as reliable in my life and my company’s vehicles. In order of most reliable. (1) Chevrolet work vans 400,000+ on all of these vans with only normal maintenance (2) Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe all over 300,000 and one over 400,000 (3) Toyotas cars and SUV’s (4) Ford F-150’s and Super Duties. We had some problems with the 04-08 F-150. It took me loosing one engine to figure out that the 5.4 3v needs to be modified / updated at around 100,000 miles. The oil pump and the channels moving oil to the top is too weak and too small as the oil pump ages. We update the 5.4 to the 2009/10 update and these motors go well over 400,000+. If you don’t update this motor, you’ll loose it between 110,000-150,000. It will warn you well in advance by making a marked ticking sound.
