To be honest, I don't really watch football from the other America's like South America for example. I mean I like watching Argentina and Brazil during the World Cup, but the football I prefer most is from Europe.

Baseball is top in Japan and Korea, basketball in China, American football in the USA, cricket in India, etc. However, football is the most widely played sport in the world. ⚽ Globally, it is played/watched by the most people, meaning that it is number one. Indians prefer cricket and Americans prefer American football. Nevertheless, football is still played in those two countries, just by fewer people than those who prefer cricket/American football. How popular is cricket and American football in Europe, South America and most of Asia?

Rubbish i looked it up and India,Pakistan,Bangladesh,China,Indonesia and the US have a combined population close to half the worlds population but only around 1 billion football fans combined according to the latest sources on YT and they're trying to say 4-5 billion people watch football?,so every child man woman in the other 190 odd countries watch football?...that's the only way you can come up with 4=5 billion highly inflated even in soccer mad countries like England,France etc there are many people that don't like football and aren't into sports fullstop

@@Trajan2401 No, it's not rubbish. India, China, USA, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Nigeria, are the world's most populous nations. That is true. However, what is the most popular sporting competition in the world? It is the football (soccer) world cup, watched more than any other sporting event. So in terms of the most watched/followed sport, we can assume that people in these populous nations watch the football world cup, as well as club football, just like people in other countries. Logic would therefore dictate that it is the most widely watched sport in the world. Indians may well love cricket, with India having the biggest population. But what does that matter? Unlike football, cricket is not universally adored all over the world. Besides, football is the most popular sport in at least three of the biggest nations: Indonesia, Brazil and Nigeria. And as for the stats you mentioned, perhaps they do not make sense. All I'm saying is that football is the most popular sport globally. "Soccer mad countries like England, France"? There are plenty more countries in the world than just Europe that love the sport. Why are you even including people who are "not into sports"? They don't even count when comparing the popularity of different sports.

@@Monatio79 im not disputing that but the stats are highly exaggerated no way do 5 out of every 8 people in the world watch football even the stats don't add up so according to the latest stats roughly there are 1 billion football fans combined for those countries i named roughly half the world's population so if you were to believe this 4=5 billion watch football crap pretty much every baby,child,woman,man in the other 190 or so countries would have to be a football fan even the many that like other sports or don't like sports fullstop the stats show how ridiculous the 4-5 billion claim is

In global popularity, there's no competition to football. Cricket may rank high, but it's only because of very high population in the Indian subcontinent.

Well.....yes .. Football is the only truly global game. Global in popularity and how many countries play it. 2nd and third are more due to specific regions or countries. As you say Cricket is widely considered the 2nd most popular sport due to the Indian subcontinent. Basketball is generally considered to come in 3rd due to the US and China.

El Cricket nadie y cuando digo nadie es porque casi nadie lo juega. Solo tiene esa cantidad porque entre India, Pakistán y Bangladesh juntan más de 1200 millones de habitantes, pero solo son esos y unos más como Inglaterra, Australia y Sudáfrica y se acabó. Nadie más lo juega ni le interesa. Hasta el béisbol o el hockey de hielo lo juegan en más países que el cricket. En América Latina por ejemplo, una persona promedio ni conoce ese deporte. Para mi el Baloncesto es el segundo deporte más popular en cuanto a cantidad de paises. Eso del cricket puede ser verdad pero a casi todos los países les importa un carajo el cricket, están arriba por esos sobrepoblados países. Es como si dijeras que el chino mandarín es el idioma más hablado, pero solo en 2 países lo hablan (China y Taiwán) pero sales de allí y en ningún otro es hablado. Pero se lo dices a un indio y se molesta 😂

Los padres deben abonar grandes sumas si quieren que sus hijos jueguen en grandes clubes. @geoguy171 Cricket is definitely 2nd biggest sport in Australia. Rugby League is only big in 2 states, NSW and Queensland. Nothing competes with cricket because it's a summer Sport, and it's the only good sport we've got in summer. Keep in mind this could be a biased opinion because I love cricket too. Go Scorchers.

I wonder what metric was used for this. As an Australian I would argue that cricket is probably more popular that Australian Rules football. Cricket is played across the entire country where as Aussie Rules is only dominant in four of the six states (Vic, SA, Tas, WA). In the other two, NSW & Qld, Rugby League is the dominant football code. If you look at participation rates then it's Football which has the most number of players, it just doesn't translate to the professional level and attendance levels in the A League. And Rugby League is a different code to Rugby Union, though it would look similar to anyone unfamiliar with it, so for PNG it is Rugby League that is their major sport.

FIFA has more than 200 member countries, which are more than UN. Football unites the world

Si los canadienses hasta hace poco empezaron a tener su liga profesional de futbol, no tiene ni 10 años de existencia, porque no le daban importancia. Igual que en USA. En cambio sus ligas de Hockey, Football🏈 y Lacrosse son tan viejas como las ligas estadounidenses, algunas tienen más de 100 años. La NHL de hockey la crearon ellos y luego integraron a USA, la CFL (football🏈) se creó hace casi 100 años. También tuvieron sus propias ligas profesionales de Basketball y Baseball, pero luego sus equipos se unieron al sistema de USA. Con eso te das cuenta que el fútbol no es lo de ellos. Igual sus equipos canadienses en NBA y MLB tienen más de 50 años que existen. Pero no sabes nada de eso. Creo que el que está desinformado eres tú. Si fuera tan popular como dices el fútbol en Canadá, su liga hubiera existido desde hace más de 100 años como sus otras ligas deportivas. O al menos tuviera unos 30 años como la MLS. Pero no es así.
