This is the rematch. The best staredown was at their first meeting. Crocop just killed Wanderlei with his eyes. Here he was looking normally.

Crazy how Silva actually weighed more than Crocop during this fight.

Crocop is an absolute fucking savage. By far the most threatening staredown in MMA. The dude has literally taken people's lives, there's not a single person that could seriously stare him down and intimidate him. Silva was scared shitless.

Yeah I've always liked watching Crocop and Emelianko fights. They were both in their prime in Pride and I think Crocop was a K2 fighter also. I know he stated his career off in kickboxing and made a name for himself. It continued through Pride and by the time he got to the UFC he was at the end of his career.

This was a "how to" on head kick set up. I know it's obvious and has been broken down more times than a lot lizard, but geez that was clinical. Constant body kicks conditioning Silva to think low. Then boom he goes high and lights out. He really makes it look like anybody could jump off the couch and do this. Makes it look like it doesn't take a lifetime to carve those skills to perfection.

I don't know about all that lol. CroCop said that he knew his life was in danger in that fight and that's what pushed him to destroy Wand before he had a chance to get going.

He used to stare down most of his opponents . First time Crocop stared him down in their first fight. Just see the best staredown on KZread. Crocop is a guy who killed a guy with a knife, when he was the head of the anti terrorist squadron in Croatia.

Striker vs striker, who is gonna go for the double leg first? Next to Gomi and Fedor, these two were some of my favorite fighters, they both awesome fights back in the day

I think I remember Wanderlei even being the favorite going into this fight. This was also Wanderlei’s “Axe Murderer” prime. Wand had a huge following and rep for his brutality, and in Japan also for his destroying Japanese hero Sakuraba. Mirko was already a star and known for wrecking fools, but he was putting opponents to sleep while Wand was turning his opponents into hamburger meat. Wand literally had landed more head stomps on his opponents on the ground than head kicks while they were vertical. I remember thinking that before Pride though, Mirko was a K-1 Grand Prix kickboxing champion. He’s just a different league of striker. And as glorious and brutal as Wand’s back and forth hook chains were, I’m not sure I ever saw him throw a straight punch in a fight. I figured Mirko’s straights, also vicious, were probably going to land inside Wand’s looping swings. But I still had very little kickboxing knowledge so I wasn’t confident enough to bet on it like I should have. Great fight, and both these guys earned the superstar reps they had in that era. IMO Pride was the Golden Age of MMA.
