MOST IMPORTANT THING TO BRING! DIY Cape Cod Canal Striper Trip

Ойын-сауық

Bourne, Mass. Chasing big striped bass from shore. First trip, completely DIY, I will show you where to stay, where to rent the bike, and what lures and tackle to use. I will also share the most important thing to bring (which I forgot....).

Don’t worry about the line rating on the rod so much as the weight rating. An outstanding rod on a budget is the 11’ Tsunami Trophy II rated 4-10 oz. While rated 4-10 it’s more of a 2-8 which is going to cover everything you’re going to want to throw....and for $130 that rod is an absolute steal and I’d say that model paired with a 5000 or 6500 Daiwa BG is the absolute best entry level quality setup you can get for the money. You could land a 40 pounder on a double star moon tide with that setup and everything said and done the combo is only like $270

@@DanEvan I bought it last year at Canal B+T…. Told the guy I was on a budget and needed a rod for the canal and he immediately pulled that out and said this is what you need….I used an old Penn 950 reel but changed to the Diawa this year and I am happy for the $$ with that. I do alright with castin b/c of the length but maybe lose a little b/c it is a little stiff. It’s probably overkill for schoolies but for larger fish it’s what you need especially in that current.

Just a heads up , when fighting a fish that takes u down current. Fight it from where ur standing. The fish will angle out towards shore and u can reel it in nice and easy once he gets out of the current

Ditch the travel rod and the bait caster. Get a setup that will allow you to get to the waters edge and fight the fish. Listen to Dan Evan’s recommendations. That setup will get you in the game and will perform at the level required.

@@HenryDunnthatsDUNN yo henry, we did cape cod at the tail end of what's is called the run. We got some small ones. And also a low turn out cause of warm water temp for salmon in n.y., perhaps my brother and i will go up for big brownies later. The thing that bothers me is the fishermen that just crowd you with no regard and think that it's ok. A great trip it's on the calendar already.

You will get owned by a big fish in the canal on a 7’6” rod. He’s lucky it wasn’t a weekend. No way he would be able to get dragged down the riprap chasing the fish on a Sat morning. Too many people.
