    It's funny how Phase Plant's interface and design is so on point, the simple addition of a remap function blows so many other doors wide open.

    Another cool use for REMAP, which I haven't seen mentioned yet, is for dialing in the exact loop lengths in the Sample OSC to achieve audio rate playback based on keys pushed. So basically, I loaded a kick sample and wanted to TRIGGER it at audio-rate speed, corresponding to the note you play. And because this isn't a linear algorithm, REMAP is essential to achieving this.

    @@ryangilmore5676 I think he is saying that he can remap the samples he drops into the sampler, and he uses remap in order to match the length of the sample with the lenght of the note being pushed. Neat trick.

    @@ryangilmore5676 Of course! Imagine speeding up the tempo of a kick drum loop over time. Eventually, it won't sound like a kick anymore but instead will turn into an audible pitch. Picture Vital's "Keymap", but instead of an envelope being triggered, the sample is being triggered at the rate of the pitch (like... "pitch rate" ;-). If you do this with note repeaters or delays, the issue I found is that the overlap of previously triggered samples will turn the sound into total mush. I wanted to find a tool that would let me drop in any sample, and then repeat the sample at the pitch rate of the key I push. For example, I push C1, and the kick repeats 32.7 times per second to make it sound like a C1. Push C2 and it repeats 65.4 times per second and so on. With REMAP in PP, you can now tether the loop end of the sample to a REMAP, which is tethered to a NOTE modulator. This will allow you to set custom repeat values and adjust for their nonlinear increase as you go up the octaves. Let me know if this makes sense. I can post the patch for you if you're interested.

    As I see, Dash is using the default 8/4 grid. In the curve, seems an 16/12, as for the amount of notes (16) and tones of the scale (12).

    Very nice. Love all your videos. Maybe it's my age (plus the speed of your tweaking), but I have trouble following the movement of your mouse cursor/pointer on the screen and, so, often can't tell what GUI element you have tweaked to make a particular change in sound. Is there any chance you can somehow highlight your pointer, for example, with a transparent halo, or other such visual spotlighting? I won't stop watching, in any case. Thanks!

    Mod remap is very cool, but for quantizing pitch, I really wished they’d put in a dedicated device instead of this. You could already do this before with an LFO, and now it seems they’ve added presets for scales, it’s so awkward compared to checking / unchecking desired pitches on a scale, like in Vital or Pigments. Looking at the shape, how do you find a particular note? By counting the lines? Or how do you go about changing to a different scale, i.e., redrawing the steps? It works, kind of, but isn’t it rather tortuous? (And brittle, since it depends on the modulation amount being set correctly.)

  • @DashGlitch

    How to change the scale? Preset browser, as displayed in the video, 1 click 👌 this is more versatile as you’re lot limited to chromatic/linear mapping

    It would be better to have both options imo. Selecting preset scales is great, but what if you just want to restrict to a smaller subset of notes, this is much quicker to setup using Hive/Pigments/Vital implementation.

  • @VeganKebabDoRuky

    Its incredibly dependent on what you're doing. If you're maxing out unison voices on the generator and master unison, playing multiple notes simultaneously with bunch of effects with polyphonic mode on, then you'll probably need to call Google to rent you some servers lol. If your patch has minimal number of voices and effects and it still stutters, then sadly your computer probably isn't powerful enough to comfortably use PP. If you're somewhere in the middle, then you can still just bounce as many tracks in your projects as needed to free up some space for processing.

    New phaseplant at difference of other synth plug ins, it is on other planet. Needs a better sound and can be perfect in all. Sometimes it seems to me plastic

  • @DashGlitch

    @DashGlitch

    2 жыл бұрын

    Explain "plastic" in quantifiable sound terms please :) It's a flat frequency thing, like most other plugin nowdays, I don't see how a Saw wave sounds different to any other, except maybe the filters, at which point - just make your own with SliceEQ. In my experience, calling something that's pretty much endless and modular by a pretty arbitrary adjective doesn't really make much sense unless you're only able to make such with it.

    It has a very clean sound, especially the generator filters and imo it isn’t as immediately gratifying as vsts like RePro or ACE, but what it lacks in character it more than makes up for in flexibility. Kilohearts aren’t experts in analog modelling like u-he, Synapse, TAL and rest and Phase Plant isn’t trying to be a character synth, but rather a relatively neutral synth that can be super clean or dirty and nasty depending on how you program it.

  • @scacchomattho

    @scacchomattho

    People hear a mathematically perfect sawave and think of plastic, then listen to an ob6 (which has extremely precise vco waveforms) and think of analog warmth when they are the freaking same and the character is hiven by the type of filter anyway. I use mainly vital, but software like phase plant can be SO much more "analog" than analog synths using just the right kind of modulation (I mean, not just pitch drift) that it kinda begs the question if purists are just afraid of new things or scientific truth, kinda like a religion
