Its the next day and still laughing with you and your mom! I'm 71 and my mother died several years ago. Before we knew she was so ill I tried to get her to clean out small sections, but she wouldn't. She probably felt worse than we knew. BUT- she had close to 200 jigsaw puzzle, 200 books, mostly paperback. Clothes from 12 to 18 and she never had more than 25 pounds to lose ever! We found scissors everywhere, probably 25. It became a joke no one could come in unless they took a pair home. Countless little funeral cards they hand out at the visitations. Those are only a few! Have fun with your mom when you can and sometimes let us join in. Thanks for the fun.

My mum 94 spent 5 weeks in hospital only wearing the robe on her back didn’t miss the perfumes nail polishes jewellery soaps and soaps we tossed loads only kept one of each item as in likes when she came home Thankfully she thought how wonderful everything looked she didn’t have to decide or clean and loved the lighter load 👍🏻👍🏻 all is visible on the counter now no more storage

Dani, your mom is so much like how my mother was. She saved stuff for years. When she went on vacation, my sister and I cleaned out her food pantry and spices and checked expiration dates and threw out lots of old stuff. When she came home, she was surprised at how much was no good. We got her to stop overbuying and to check dates. She grew up in the depression era and I think that’s why they tend to hold on to everything. Great job! And can’t wait for the next one!😂😂💜👍

I wish my parents were as open minded as your mom when it comes to declutter but they always seem afraid that I am trying to convince them of my personal minimalistic lifestyle. So instead of decluttering in a way they're comfortable with, they just reject it. It's also great to see how much fun you and your mom had. Can't wait for part two!

It took a really long time, to get my mom to want to declutter even a small area, that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do the linen closet first, it's just a small area. But my parents have never really done a good declutter before they've always just kept things. But now that they're remodeling they really want to downsize so I'm excited to help them, that was way too much fun. But yeah it took years and years to get to this point, I know how you feel and where you're coming from. I just kept bringing it up until eventually she caved I'd even make subtle hints here and there, okay frequently 🤣 hang in there. You got this! Thanks for watching and always being here with me 🥰😘

A quality perfume will age like a fine wine, I have some of my grandmother’s from the 1950s and it smells amazing

You two remind me of my mom , my sister, and myself when we got together. We would laugh until out sides hurt. They are both gone now for many years, but I still miss them. I am 80 and I treasure my memories of them. Treasure your time with your mom. and never take these simple fun times for granted.

Musk was the "in" perfume in the late '70s. I actually like the scent. But not when it's gone bad! This video explains a lot! :)

This just brightened my day and caused me to smile and laugh along with you two. I lost my mom when I was in high school and it warms my heart to see moms and daughters tackle jobs together and have so much laughter in the process.

That was so funny! The potholders! When she said a couple of the perfumes smelled ‘musky’ it reminded me that I used to wear something called Wild Musk. Can’t remember how many decades ago that was. I’m glad your Mom is letting us see the process!

My paternal grandma who passed when I was 6 years old, used skin so soft from Avon.... I to this day will smell that and instantly think of her and be back in her house. Scents/olfactory are the strongest memory triggers for most people.

I do the same - keeping one in my car as an air freshener!

I help family members to declutter. My mom had skin care products expired 5 years ago. One of my cousins had products expired 12 years ago. I'm not a minimalist at all. I guess I have more perfumes than your mom. But I keep them accessible and I use them. Things we've spent money on gotta get used. We have 6 sets of towels for each member in my family and we rotate them.

So fun! Loved seeing your mum, she's so sweet!! Even if you don't declutter as much as you'd like, it looks like you had a great time and those memories are valuable! Can't wait to see what you two are up to next!

Oh my…I’m so glad my mom has always been a minimalist. When she and my dad reach their time, my sister and I will have a small job facing us. Truly Lace, I think, was Avon? My husband’s great grandmother was Avon Queen in 1963. That bottle looks awful familiar! 😯

In a way, I'm grateful for moms hanging on to way too much stuff. My mom does the same and just occasionally asks for help going through a few boxes or a closet, and it's really fun to kind of turn the tables and get on her case about keeping cosmetics as old as I am, lmao! She moved into my grandmom's house after gm passed, and when we went through the bathroom together, we realized my grandfather's shampoo was still in the shower-and he'd died twenty years earlier. Grandmom never moved it, that whole time. We still don't know if she was just that clutter blind or if she didn't have the heart.

Reminds me of when we had to clear out my mother-in-laws things. Such random and old stuff! lol! I think once she sees and feels the difference, she may do some more decluttering on her own! Good job!

I had 4 1/2 bathrooms in my old house. With towels specific to each bathroom. When we downsized, I had to downsize the towels, too. I threw some away, donated some, and kept a bin of towels for spills, messes and drying the car. Now the only towels I have for the 2 1/2 bathrooms are at least nice ones.

I absolutely loved this video. Years ago I can remember my mom wearing Ciara cologne also. I loved when she would put it on. She always had her signature scent. When you smelled it you knew it was her. She loved Aromatics by Clinique in her later years. She passed away 6 years ago and I can still smell it and think of her. Your mom reminds me a lot of my mom, she kept everything, you should have seen her house . Now that was a declutter nightmare. You are blessed to have both of your parents. Treasure every moment. 😊

The first minute and twenty second had me laughing out loud. This video was amazing, between the perfume, half used soap and the pot holders I was losing it. I was laughing because you were laughing. This video made me miss my mom and sister and the fun times we had together. My mom and sister were just like your mom and kept everything. Such a fun declutter with your mom! If those are the break and shake ice packs they expire after 12-18 months. If you don’t know how long something has been in the closet it’s better to just throw it away. Unopened beauty products included. Most of the time the products are shelf stable for 2-3 years. It’s nice to want to donate things but you don’t want to unintentionally give someone an expired product that ends up doing more harm then good.

My middle daughter sent me a bottle of the perfume I wore her whole life growing up for Christmas. Memories!

When my mom died we cleaned out over 600 bottles of perfume and body spray. It was so bad lol she also had hundreds of pairs of Crocs, hundreds of dolls, hundreds of Barbies, hundreds of teddy bears, a TRUNK of makeup, a TRUNK of jewelry. It was such a chore! She also had stacks of potholders like that.

The wild musk you threw away is a scent that will forever bring back the sweetest memories. I still have several bottles that my mom and I both used. There is no way I would ever throw them away. That was so funny when your mom said does perfume get old and how many potholders do you need!🤣 It's so funny my mom was never one to keep lots of stuff she would throw things away but one sad thing she apparently threw away mine and my brothers baby book or at least I can't find it now I need to go thoroughly threw her things ??? I still have her things in a closet since she died. I also have 2 bottles of my mom's perfume can't part with it, it reminds me of her, she could wear heavier scents than I could. Your mom is cute you look like her to me! Aww your baby picture you were precious! Like her I have a bunch of bath n body shower gels but I do use 1 up at a time lol! Can't pass up the free gifts lol!

As long as perfume is stored out of light in a cool place it will stay good on average 5 years. You also want to avoid storing medicine in bathrooms, because the temperature fluctuations and moisture can affect the potency. Great job ladies. edit: I prefer mens razors too.

A light in the closet could probably help you mom find things better. Maybe some of those stick on lights that you just have to touch AND I WOULD USE THE TOP SHELF FOR BIG PACKS TOILET PAPER AND PAPER TPWELS.THAT WAY SHE WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STUFF GETTING PUSHED TO THE BACK AND LOST.
