    tarzan57991:...not all of scrubs is made up! I hope you enjoy the following: in '07, I got a contract to put a janitor into the huge sports block at my old secondary school. I decided to do it myself. Janitoring is piss-boring and to fend off goin round the twist, you've GOT to find some fun! So on my janitor trolley, I had eight spray bottles, 4 containing cleaning fluids, 4 containing identically coloured DRINKABLE pop! (And NO! I never ONCE got them mixed up! I had a system!!) the blue: one was glass cleaner, the other was blue gatorade. The yellow: one was G101 (general cleaner) the other was lilt. The clear: one, toilet cleaner, the other, Sprite. The orange: one, wooden floor buffer polish, the other, Tango! And I would make a big show of makin it look like I was spraying cleaning stuff in and drinkin it! Also, very large fruity chews of a certain flavour looked like urinal cakes! That was hilarious openin one of them up, poppin it in and chewin it!!! Then one day I saw my 1st episode of Scrubs and the wonderful Neil Flynn was doin similar!!! You gotta find fun where you can! And along the way, if u can gross a few folks out... all the better!!! :) :) :)

    The reveal that JD had imagined the entire ordeal of just not wanting to realize that Ben had leukemia is so sad. Not only because he didn't wanna upset Dr. Cox, but because he really liked Ben. I think Ben's reaction where he goes completely serious instead of his goofy and serious self makes it _worse._

  • @Lucifronz

    @Lucifronz

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@filipwolffs Yeah, the first episode took place many many episodes before, where Ben learns he has leukemia. The next time we see him it's in this episode where he's back from his vacation (which he took after he learned he was in remission). He hadn't checked in with any doctors to keep track of his condition and his heart gave out. The bits in the episode where you think JD is talking about the older man he was taking care of when Dr. Cox put him on Ben's case were actually about Ben himself, including talking about his death. For all we know the old man himself is still alive. It's really interesting to watch the episode with all the right lenses on and to see the reactions of everyone, realizing you were just as ignorant as Dr. Cox on the reality of the situation (well, he's delusional, but you're pulled into the delusion for purposes of the story). Easily one of the best episodes in the series and still gets me to this day. It sucks, too, because Ben was one of the best guest characters and he only really shows up twice. Second favorite (or rather, second guest who was also a favorite, rather than second place) would be Dr. Kevin Casey. Brilliant doctor who never intentionally causes drama, but because of how competitive medicine is he draws the ire of the entire group before they realize how petty and childish they're being when they see he's got his own mess of problems to deal with that he isn't putting on them or anyone else. I literally just rewatched this show a couple months ago and I'm already ready to watch it all over again. I think I'll check out the DVD commentary for each season soon. And finally sit down and listen to that podcast.

    I think Ben's death is one of the most effective sad scenes in all of Scrubs, because it came kinda right out of nowhere - I say "kinda", because the whole episode was building up to it. It was a great misleading, everything was perfect, there was a lots of moments where they spoke about Ben and his upcoming funeral, but it was disguised perfectly in every way. What is worse (and for this case best): Everything was a build-up for Jacks Birthday Party, an happy event, and the whole episode was about Cox forgiving JD for his failure, which is also an happy event. And then that ultimate plot twist, which feels kinda like the one in "Sixth Sense". From an expected happy event to the realisation, that a beloved and for Cox important character died. This is what made Ben's death so perfect for us viewers, that great rollercoaster. I really recommend watching the whole episode for those already didn't, it is really way more effective (I have a feeling that some people didn't watched it yet).

    I remember the first time I decided to watch this show. I always thought it was kind of lame. But when I finally decided to watch it... I realized that it came to me in a perfect moment. I was experienced one of my firsts and deepest depressions... And it really helped me to connect and go through my fears and feelings, it also made me laugh and it made me feel less alone when I cried ❤️ and... the music... always was awesome and precise. I will always appreciate this story that was such a good company for me when I felt so alone in my life. :')

    The beauty of the Neil Flynn bit is that Scrubs is set near Chicago, where The Fugitive was also filmed. It was completely plausible for some unknown face to get a small bit as a beat cop in one scene. It would have been funnier if they'd gone to credits and it had been Jan Itor.

    whats the song at 300 when ben and jd r lookin at pics. that song always makes me sappy. also. .. what a beautiful series of writing. I know its just a show but the amazing thing about actors and writers is their art is a way to face our feelings and since having feelings is somehow taboo for men these days its nice to c something real. even if its fake. u know? these episodes r a mash up of real ppls lives. thats how writers write. amazing I think. I couldnt do it as freely as they do

    I knew it had to be him! Lol No way they’d actually use a real character from a real movie played by a real person as their fictional janitors secret past and failed career. They’d just make up a fake show or movie that JD happens to be watching when he notices the character in the show is the janitor etc. That’s usually how shows play stuff like that out. I figured right away it had to really have been him, why else pick that movie and that scene? Just another glimpse into the awesomeness that is Scrubs. Love how they gave him that nod. Love how they play things out. Even the smaller arcs.

    Dr Cox could never be both an actor and the Dr. It was too real to see him anything more than the role he played cause he played it so damn well. It was always a rollercoaster and played on exactly why i never could be in the medical field. People said my fear would make me a better doctor but reality is I'd seize under the pressure and stress and one life lost would be one life too many for me to continue. Glad i chose construction. 😅 My absolute respect to all in the medical field. You dont get the praise you rightly deserve. Everyone of you should be celebrated as heros and even tho you dont get that day know to at least to me (and id hope alot of others), yall are absolutely heros. Id be a gonner a few times over without the wonderful medical staffs that worked hard for alot of thankless hard work. I owe you wonderful son of bitches my life. Sincerely. 😅
