MJ himself said from an interview, he didn't want to add 3pt shots in his arsenal, because it will affect his whole game. And ofc, back then most of the time players attack inside the paint, they don't prioritize 3s as much as now where most players spam 3s all night long.

I'm no fan of LeBron James. Never have been, never will be. But I really can't see his record number of turnovers as being embarrassing. The man has played forever, and, with few exceptions, the ball has been in his hands a majority of the time. If you're afraid of committing a turnover, don't have the ball.

  • @sydhamelin1265

Exactly, his longevity has equated to higher overall numbers, both positive and negative. I've always found him...tough to root for, since his ego has gotten to me a few times. That whole 'decision' thing was rough. BUT, that's kinda tame by comparison. Where I get really impressed are not just his totals, but his averages. People like to dismiss his total points as being the product of a long career. But that long career is a product of his commitment to staying in shape. And his averages are insane, especially given that he's nearing 40 years old.

I'm not suggesting he isn't great, just that he took a whole, whole lot of absolutely terrible shots. That missed. The more turnovers you have, the worse you are at taking care of the ball. That's a universally understood fact. LeBron is the scoring king, and has a lot of other accolades. But he's been bad at taking care of the ball his entire career. Almost 5,100 turnovers is the most in NBA history. He can be great at some aspects of the game and bad at others. And that's the reality of his career. Those realities are not mutually exclusive.

Not the same thing - Chris Paul has played 19 years and has 2K fewer turnovers. It's not just that Lebron has played a long time, he is also careless with the ball. He's about 3 tenths of a percentage better than Westbrook in this department. He barely has a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio.

@@sir_sack In 20 years Kobe had 4,010 turnovers and over 6,300 assists, which isn't bad for a slasher/scorer position player. LeBron currently has a little over 10,000 asssists and over 5,000 turnovers. Yes, LeBron's ratio is higher than Kobe's. But LeBron still has THE MOST turnovers in NBA history. And no, it has nothing to do with how many minutes he's played. LeBron has always been hit or miss on his ball control. Some games he'll be great. Some games he'll be terrible. These realities do exist side by side. They're not mutually exclusive. So, what's the point of you mentioning the ratio between him and Kobe? It has nothing to do with anything. LeBron has the most turnovers in NBA history. Period.

It's a stat that needs context because it's a product of time over responsibility, 24/25 players with the most turnovers are either in the hall of fame or are going to be. Players are not perfect, you exist in the league long enough as the player who is given the ball and over time you'll rack up turnovers. Other high turnover per game players are Magic Johnson(3.87), Isiah Thomas(3.76) and Allen Iverson(3.57). None of these guys are bad, they were just given the responsibility of handling the ball a lot. To even crack the top 50 you need more than 2500 turnover and teams won't let players get there by accident, you have to be worth giving the ball to in the first place.

Lebron's turnover record is something not many people know about or they just decide to ignore or not talk about. Every single game he plays he adds to this record. He has so many turnovers nobody will ever break it because it already is impossible for any current or future NBA player to accumulate the amount of turnovers Lebron has in an NBA career lol.

Well, I consistently note that LeBron has too many turnover. However, when you handle a lot and get assists, you will get turnovers. Lately, it has turned ugly, because his assists are down a bit, while the turnovers are still the same. The again, early in the season misses, TOs and FT% usually are low to increase over the season.

  • @TWDub

For the LeBron simps, all great players have weaknesses. And LeBron's greatest weakness is and has always been a combination of ball protection and decision making. His turnovers have nothing to do with minutes played, how many years he's played, or any other stat line. If you pay attention to the tape throughout his career the vast majority of his turnovers are off of intercepted passes because he didn't see the defender lurking in the lane (these are isolated moments of him having poor court vision), or from turning into too many defenders while trying to force his way to the basket (poor decision making). Does this make him less great? No. So why are you all so defensive? It's as if YOU'RE being accused based on how hard most of you are trying to haphazardly defend him with fallacy-based arguments and nonsensical ramblings about his other stat lines. You CAN be great at something and still have weaknesses. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. Stop trying to protect LeBron from scrutiny as if analyzing his worst attributes is some kind of crime or slander against his greatness. Nobody's denying he's the greatest player of this generation. But he does have his weaknesses. And his turnover stat is proof of what is arguably his greatest weakness. Ball care, and decision making. The stats are facts. And facts don't lie. Quit the bullshit, and accept his shortcomings as well as his strengths. That's how a true fan shows respect to their favorite players.

The most FT given is also a stat that all bronsexuals don't want to see or be checked on as they know their idol would be either owning that record or in the top 3. His career would be exposed that he is always helped and cuddled by the refs to help him win games. Just check whatever team he is on and you will discover that team is magically given more Free Throws that they can remember ever happening to them than when leFlop wasn't yet on that team. If the refs don't give his team enough FT, they will surely lose. He NEEDS the refs.
