A Yaounde (Fang-Beti) here. Precisely Eton. An elder explained to me that traditional weddings are expensive on our side for a reason. Back then, the principle of the dowry was to test if the groom and his family are really ready to do everything for the girl they want. For our forefathers, If the dowry is complicated for the groom and his family, and if despite everything they manage to do what is asked of them, this means that the girl they come to take has great value in their eyes. Because they worked hard to get her. Which was reassuring for the girl's family. They had tests like bring a monkey tail or bring bags of salt (which was difficult since we are forests people and don’t have access to the sea). Now that you can buy salt at the corner of your quartier 😂, having a looooooong dowry list became the test.

Watching from Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria. I understand the culture as mariage here in Bonny is really expensive with almost the same arrangements.

There is another type of wedding in cameroon that nobody is talking about. It is known as CAM WE STAY.This is for jongleur and broke people. I have seen CAM WE STAY living in the same house for centuries with kids and problems only resurface when the man dies.Question to the woman by relatives👉 them be pay money for your head.Comot for ya.
