MOST common archery MISTAKES! Are YOU making them?!

Спорт

Spending many years in the world of archery Sjef and Jaap have seen a lot of great things as well as many... not so great things. In this video they give their thoughts on the most common mistakes. Many of which they have made themselves, but if you are willing to learn, you can overcome them all...

Great to see you back guys. You could also have mentioned the guy who's adjusting his bow every day, spending more time in screwing and unscrewing bolts than shooting.

Hahaha! You are SO right! Compound bow has nothing to do with archery! I noticed some of my mistakes, but I knew them already, and I'm working on it. Thank you to remind them to me!

I must disagree. Though I am mostly a recurve shooter, I still shoot compound now and then. The compound bow, unlike a crossbow, must still be held up with one arm while holding the string with the other. Here in my home state of Minnesota, USA, our state legislature has approved crossbow use by anyone hunting during the archery hunting season. It is crossbows that have nothing to do with archery. The only difference between crossbows and guns is the form of propellant. This legislation is a three year trial period. I am hoping that at the end of this three years, our state archery and bowhunting organizations will fight tooth and nail against the renewal of expanded crossbow use.

Finally a new video😁. There are some other things that I noticed as common archery mistakes . 1. Adjusting the stance after every shot or to have generally a inconsistent stance( sometimes extremely narrow sometimes extremely wide) 2. Copying the technique of top archers without the understanding why the top archers do the things they do 3. Schooting with to much weight on the stabilaser. (Main problem in my club with recurve and compound) 4. Want to shoot farther distances without the ability to do so ( I saw a really bad example on a 70m round tournament with 40 points shot over the course of 72 arrows.

Sjef, I have two questions. 1. In a couple of earlier videos, you said you prefer a straight V-bar. However, you are shooting an adjustable V-bar here. Is there a reason? 2. When you where working for Archery+ as an announcer this year (great job, BTW), you made a comment that you wished you had changed your form when you were competing, but your were afraid to try that. What change or changes did you want to make?

"See how high that went!" Best indoor line ever. Very excited to see a new video. The most common thing I see at my range is a new archer with a 25# bow and 500 spine arrows. This is not the archer's fault, but rather the sellers. Most archery stores in the US sell hunting compounds and they have cheap 500 spine arrows to package with their sales. The next is not buying an arm guard.

Glad to see you back. I remember in the video "From billet to bow #2" with Doug Denton you quickly explained your way of adjusting the tiller (starting with a value of 0 if I remember) but you did not show it in practice in the video #3. Maybe you'll make a video about it? Sjef, I found you comment well on international meetings. You try to convey the state of mind in which the competitors would be, being careful not to over interpret. I find it pleasant. And your duo works well too. And what a phenomenon Eric Peters' trainer is !

Thank you for the video. I cannot agree with you about the style of shooting the traditional bow though. Traditional is different from Olympic style recurve and not everyone shoots traditional the same. Many these days shoot the three fingers under with the bow in the vertical position. I however prefer the Fred Beat style, split finger anchoring the index finger in the corner of my mouth, holding the bow at about a 40 degree cant.

    1. shooting compounds.(unless you are incapable of shooting something else due to health issues ofcourse) 2. swinging your bow sideways when on a busy line, right into other people(or near enough). 3. weird stances. i can hit the target while balancing on 1 foot, doesnt mean i have a proper form! 4. changing up settings on the bow everytime when shooting bad. 90% of the time its your form, not the configuration. or just ditch the screws and go full trad. not a screw in sight! 5. stop shooting compounds. ps. ive shot with someone that bend that far forward(mistake 8), he regularly got his tips into other bows that way too.

12:15 - Thre is a name for that. Guess you understand German - actually we have learnd that in Austria: "Howard Hill K*ck Stellung". However, the people there had an explanation. This is a consequence from shooting with primitive bows, where your hand is your arrow rest. So you have to tilt your bow and the body needs to follow this tilting. Of course an upright body position with a little bow tilting would do it, but does not look that cool.

  • @jaapbolt8780
