Joe Achilles you’re absolutely right about the infuriating throttle lag. My Q8 50tdi exactly the same. Driving me nuts and quite dangerous in some circumstances... Same issue with Q8 S-Line seats.

Joe Achilles nice part when you complaint about the lag. I understand it is a turbo charged engine at the end of the day. But the lag is unreasonable. I had the new shape a7 for a year and the only thing I don’t like is the lag response.

Thanks for the review on this one, Joe. I believe there is now an ECU update for these Audi 3 liter motors (both petrol and diesel) that fixes the throttle lag/delay. I don't know why Audi shipped them like that (maybe the emissions testing like you said) but the user experience for early adopters was pretty bad in some cases.

I had a 2014 version and loved it , beautiful ride and if you selected sport ( just from notching back the gear lever) or dynamic ( from the "car" setup ) it took off like a spaceship ! I even occasionally got late 40s mpg on a run, the perfect all rounder just a bit big most of the time with just me in it ...now swapped to a green update in the way of a Q2 but I can see myself back in one of these a few years old one day, ...irresistible!

Hi Joe, The is a older gentleman that lives in my area and he has a 64 plate A6 Allroad and he loves it to bits and has no complaints. This A6 is a great car but not sure about the lack off punch when you put your foot to the floor as normally most Audi”s will just fly down the road with no complaint. Also Joe a great honest review and a great video. Best wishes Alan B 👏👏✌️

Great vid Joe, im a c5 allroad owner, great comfy old load lugger, and since owning it i dont think id ever go back to a 'normal' car for daily use. As you mentioned its so versatile, and with winter tyres as mine has unstoppable in 99.9% of conditions youre likely to come across. Absolutely love it. Such a shame about the auto box/delay from the ecu or whatever it is on this new one. I wonder if it can be mapped out? My old c5s a manual and when offroading you cant be without it i think. Clutch control is key.

As I am a massive fan of this brand owning a A5 sportback myself I really love the way you present this car even for the fact that you are actually a BMW man..... Every brand has it's good and less good points and I really appreciate your way of pointing out the not so good aspects of this car without making the brand look bad as many other journalists would do. I love watching your stuff and especially you honesty . Great work man!

We've got an older C6 3.0TDI Allroad. This is after multiple Subaru's and more performance oriented BMW models and I can say this is the best car I've had by quite a margin, the only thing I'd replace it with is a newer Allroad. Loved your review! The delay is caused by VW dieselgate, engine mapping is tuned this way that you have to be in sports gear mode to have "normal" response, this affects many new VW diesels sadly.

  • @alexr5557
    @alexr55573 жыл бұрын

There is a software upgrade that deals with the delayed response. It makes a huge difference. You have to specifically ask for it as it is not a ‘recall update’ and thus may not be added without a specific request. Ask your dealer about this but make sure they look beyond the ‘recall updates’. I think the upgrade became available in May 2020.

Spot on! the only downside is the handling is a little bit ponderous. But the car is not really intended to compete around a track. Effortless performance in a comfortable, spacious and beautifully trimmed cabin. I have had mine for 3.5 years and am seriously thinking about keeping it (I normally swap at 2 years)

Same in my Q5 with the dual clutch box. You get used to driving around it, but one place it always seems to get the better of me is when you get to small hill - a little squeeze of the throttle because you know you’re going to lose momentum... nothing... a little more... nothing... a little more... nothing... a little more... BOOM! Kick-down. Vroooooooom. Still quite fancy the allroad for my next car though.

Hi Joe. I've got the C7 facelift version. Same problems. Throttle response is sooo slow. It's not the gearbox because I had the same box on the 335d and it was amazing, I think Audi just setup the A6 to be economical and it tries to "smooth" you into acceleration. Which is a pain in the ass when trying to get out a junction quickly. However put it in manual and you have the response back to what you want. (and doors don't always catch first time). However I've had it up a 1 in 3 dirt track and reversed a 1.8 tonne caravan backwards up a 1 in 7 grassy slope. Amazing for a "car".

Joe, that issue you describe with the throttle response and the gears, that's exactly what's always bugged me about my 3L TDI A4 Avant from 2013(!) So it seems they haven't addressed it in 7 or 8 years. It's exactly as you describe, gives you nothing and if you push it more it gives you too much. I saw in another comment you can get a software update - I also asked if there was an update a couple of years back for my 2013 model because of this exact issue but was told a flat 'no'.

This car is amazing, had one over tye past few years but sadly having to sell it as audi are refusing the replace the keys. It took 3 months to get it booked in and then when it went in and they first off said they dont have the keys, both were in the box and we called and said. Then they road tested it and said no problems with it, and we had to point out that its an issue that happens randomly, and that if it happened when say we are on holiday it would be a huge issue or if we are at the airport unable to drive home as the keys dont work. They then said if that happens phone audi roadside and then they have to deal with it within 3 days, but we dont wanna be 3 days without the car as we need it for transport. Then when my dad went to pick it up, the head of service took one look at him and got his junior member of staff to deal with him as he didnt want to be shouted at for not fixinga thing after keeping the car for 2 days. And they didn’t say anything like have a talk with sales and we’ll see what deal we can do for you they just gave him the keys and said bye. This car was the perfect car for my dad and we’re now having to get rid of it due to extremely poor customer service its a real shame as he would have bought an E Tron GT or a Grand Sphere in a few years time but no we are now done with Audi and back at BMW with a 5 series which has roughly the same specs, appalling customer service by the Audi garage in Bridgend, But have to say its an amazing car and I’ve enjoyed nearly every second of having it, and that BMW does not have he same customer services problem as the sales team we’re very friendly and helpful.

Thanks for an interesting review which still leaves me with the problem of what to replace my current C7 Allroad BiTdi with. The previous car has instantaneous power when called for ,has returned over 40 MPG over its life from new and goes anywhere on 18" Bridgestone all season tyres. The Alcantara sports seats are much netter than the standard leather items and tows it heavy 2.5 T trailers effortlessly. Any suggestions appreciated.

Jim Evans if you still want an estate get the mercedes e400d. Best estate imo. If it has to be the newest thing for you then wait a few months they will present a new gen e class in a month. If you dont care about that too much and just want a fairly modern car then get the current e class it decreases a lot in price because of the upcoming facelift while not really being much worse. It has all the tech you could ask for, all the safety, is comfy and luxorious and that 400d pulls really nice and is fairly responsive. The interior is also absolutely beautiful if configured correctly. Also looks classy and good with amg line styling. Fuel economy is also pretty good since its a diesel. My 2nd choice would be the 5 series estate. Its even available as m550d if you want a lot of power. But i like the interior less than the merc. Ofc its a taste thing. If it doesnt have to be an estate a mercedes glc should also be considered. Can also pull 2.5t, drives very very comfy and is just a pretty very usable daily. Also pretty sporty for an suv and its not that expensive. In the end it depends on: what type of car do you want? Hoe much do you want to pay? How new does it have to be? What is important to you in a car? What is your taste in terms of design like?

I fact I have the Allroad C7.5 generation equipped in 3.0 BTIDI and there is no turbolag at all. I recently tested A6 C8 and I felt this delay, I was expecting so much more response with the mild hybridation.... And yes this car is all about comfort, cruising and capability, you are not afraid of rain, snow, bad road ... It's heavy car so it need at least 600Nm. Even with the bitdi 320 tuned to +400hp it's not a sports car at all, it's fast, the handling is "ok" . If you drive cool it's easily 38mpg (+-8l/100) motorway 7l/100 or less, if you use your right foot it still stay under 10l/100. For me the bad point of this car is the weight and defacto the handling otherwise it's brilliant everywhere and everytime.

nowdays the problem is even if you have decent horsepower with an automatic gear will shift way tok early and makes the impression the car is slow, its all to keep emissions low but day to day drive it gets annoying as it just doesn't feel powerful intil you really press the pedal in which in most case you don't want to do you just want to use some power hut the high gear takes it away

Just ordered a new A6 Allroad having owned one for the past seven years (completely trouble free), deciding factor was ride comfort. This time I have changed to the petrol engine 55TFSI mainly because of the hate campaign against diesel cars (so I have changed for the more polluting petrol version). Ordering is now a real pain as many options are not permitted without other options being added. I spent several weeks on the Configurator and at the dealership before giving up and had to accept less than I wanted. Basically I wanted the Vorsprung trim, minus the skinny tyres and sports seats (and I was quite prepared to pay more than the Vorsprung spec), apparently this is impossible due to the limited configurations tested for the WLTP figures. The review mentions power close doors which I tried to add, again not possible without changing to sports seats, similarly I wanted the rear wheel steering again not possible. Options for seat trim and leather options again are very limited if you don’t want sport seats. My reason for disliking sport seats is that I never found them comfortable (I have sold previous cars because of this and have no ambitions to charge around boy racer style, otherwise I would buy an RS6) my wife also has mobility issues and the side bolsters make access difficult for her, this was also the reason for wanting the power door closures as she cannot close the passenger doors on our existing car. I almost bought the Porsche Cayenne Coupe (as Porsche still allows you to go option crazy) as an alternative with all of the options I wanted for a price circa £120K, however had to give up because my wife couldn’t get in despite the air suspension being on the lowest setting. It is disappointing that you can no longer option new a new Audi in the way you could an old one.

Hi Martin. I'm just wondering whether you have your car now ? The reason I ask is that I ordered a new A6 Allroad 50TDI Vorsprung spec in June and have been quoted delivery in late October / early November and I'm wondering how accurate that will be. I decided....after a lot of thought....to go with the 50 TDI rather than the 55TFSI simply because I do alot of miles in Germany and the diesel is better suited in my opinion to fast autobahn runs plus the mpg of course. I think that these modern diesel engines from Audi and other manufacturers are very clean now and probably better than many petrol engines out there . If you now have your car Ihope you are enjoying it. Like to hear your impressions
