The thing about Claire is that she is everything that is expected from a modern woman, intelligent, powerful, independent but that is EXAUSTING for her, she's always on a verge of a breakdown, she's always upset, she's always extress that's why she envys her sister. Unlike Claire, she can make people like her without even trying, while for her people only will take her seriously like a good co-worker but never a fun person to hang out with.

Yes, its mindblowing isnt it. She has everything in life but life is hard for her, almost unbearable with the decisions, stress and emotions, she can barely make a change for herself that is outside of the ordinary plan that she has for herself, yet Fleabag can attract people, be the center of attention and persevere and move on after loss of her mother, best friend and sex addiction and shame/guilt - and seeing that just hit the spot for Claire

Yes! I can't begin to imagine having to be this strong figure even in your own family, always worrying and taking care of your alcoholic husband and his son, a depressed bankrupted sister and an easily manipulated dad. That's probably why she's so focused on work, the one thing she can actually control.

when fleabag talks to belinda, she barely or doesn't even address the viewers which is really interesting.. maybe it means she feels really seen around belinda or has a friend she can truely share all her thoughts with so doesn't need to talk to us or something? either way its pretty cool

I never noticed that! Maybe she sees herself in Belinda, like she doesn't have to talk to us/herself in her head because talking to Belinda is already like that. So Belinda could be like an aspirational version of her future self, like someone she could realistically become? Idk but interesting to think about

In the flashbacks to Boo she never addresses an audience, so I see it as a coping mechanism after losing Boo. Making another actual friend/person she can talk to takes away her need for _us._

I actually sympathize with Claire. She's tired of feeling like a supporting character in her sister's life. Fleabag enters a situation and it does ultimately somehow become about her in some significant way. Claire just wanted Fleabag to help her on a day she was stressed out about. And Fleabag breaks the award, replaces it with a piece of art that she stole, gets the presenter sick, all the while acting cool as a cucumber and making Claire's coworkers laugh as if nothing ever happened. And Claire that whole time is stressed out of her mind, and struggling with being personable and likable, something that comes so easy to Fleabag. At a certain point it must get exhausting, feeling like a secondary character.

The way this show utilizes the 4th wall to show the main character's state of mind is one of the coolest and most unique things I've ever seen in media, and also is one of the reasons why I love this show so much! Like, for example: - In season 1, not a single flashback with Boo had Fleabag addressing us in it. - In the last episode of season 1, when the "reveal" about Boo is shown to the viewers, Fleabag actively tries to back away from the camera and to run away from us. We were never supposed to know, because she has not been able to face it herself. She talks to us less and less, until eventually in the scene with the bank manager, she doesn't address us at all. - When we return to Fleabag's life, it's a year later and she's tried to improve upon herself, but she comes back to talking to us again. Most people theorize that it's because talking to us is her way of dissociating with the situation and dealing with difficult things - in this case, talking with her family again after a year of tense distance following the art show disaster. - In the scene with Belinda, she doesn't address us at all either. She's completely enraptured by her. Lots of people theorize that Belinda is supposed to represent an older version of Fleabag that she wants to be like! Successful and intelligent on the outside, but swears and makes daring jokes in reality. - Now finally, there's the priest, who's the one person who's noticed her dissociating from us. I just LOVE how much that in itself implies about the relationship and connection the two have with one another. - I can't wait for you to see what they do with this in the coming episodes!!!

About Claire: I have a bit of a similar relationship with my sister. She is a bit younger and she's very funny. People really enjoy her company. Personally, I'm a lot more earnest. I have a more "exclusive" sense of humour which only comes out with people I'm close to. I used to be jelous of my sister's popularity. I'm not anymore but I do get where Claire is coming from. She is a successful business woman and still feels like she can't hold a candle to her entertaining sister

Me too!! My sister is very outgoing, fun, but she struggles a lot with mental ilness and I'm very uptight, very anxious, and I too have that "exclusive sense of humor". And because of that, I used to be very jealous of her for a long time and kind of erase all of her struggles and think "she has such a vibrant life and I'm this little ball of bitterness". Now, after therapy I'm able to see that I have my own way of being and that's OK. And her life is not perfect so just relax honey.

All of the characters are so brilliantly written in fleabag. Claire is so clearly struggling from the pressure of being a perfect wife, step mother, daughter and colleague, but is so stubborn and (like fleabag) refuses help from anyone. Fleabags dad is obviously still mourning the loss of his wife, and has turned to the godmother for comfort, but it is an incredibly toxic relationship (seen from the dad being terrified when fleabag dropped the tray of food etc.) Such a brilliant series, can't wait to watch your reactions as the rest of the series unfolds

I love love love this episode. And I don't know if people share this sentiment but I adore Belinda. She's so well-written. And you can see Fleabag just *admires* her, and in my opinion that's why she kisses her (rather than because she desires her). She's the first person she's met (maybe in her life) that she just admires (because Belinda is brilliant) and she just shares her wisdom with Fleabag without expecting nothing in return. It was such a wonderful connection.

I LOVE this episode. All the characters are so nuanced and they feel so human and so real. Like Claire...I was initially hurt at what she said to Fleabag too but it gave so much more insight into why she is the way she is. There is so much built up resentment inside Claire and as much as it may seem like she's angry at Fleabag, I feel like she is really angry at herself because most of her pain is self inflicted. Staying with Martin was her choice. Giving up her promotion was her choice. I feel like she envies Fleabag's freedom in the sense that unlike herself, Fleabag is brave enough to live her life on her own terms even though she is seen as somewhat of a "screw up." Claire has never really been herself because she is always trying to keep up appearances. The closest we've seen of her authentic self is that brief moment with Klare. And as for the "hot priest" (as he is commonly known as)....he is honestly my favourite part of this season. It was so clever for them to use the 4th wall breaking to illustrate the depth of their connection. When that part happened I was internally screaming for them to get married too! haha. I was like "he SEES her!"...and that to me is the cornerstone of true love. Fleabag detaches from her world whenever she talks to us, and even with us, she's never really been super vulnerable so for me, there is a real intimacy in her relationship with the priest that just warms my heart. And it's a two way street because I do think the priest feels he can be his true self with Fleabag too. As a priest I suppose being vulnerable is part of his calling, but I think he uses humour to deflect a lot too. Growing up with an alcoholic family you just know he carries a lot of pain himself yet as a priest I feel like he can't really be truly vulnerable because people look up to him to "know the answers" in a way. I'm not sure what the fox means but to me him being afraid of it shows his vulnerability, so maybe Fleabag seeing the fox is a metaphor of her "seeing" him too....not as a priest but a human, just like everyone else. On some level we're all looking for meaning in life and the priest found it in God/being a priest which is why this was such a painful episode for me. I was falling in love with them as a couple but knowing that being a priest is not just a "job", it's his identity...that hurt because their connection is so genuine. For me, I believe you can have both but it all comes down to personal belief so I know for the priest the impossibility of loving/ marrying Fleabag is a real thing for him. But as a lover of Rom Coms this was a tough one! 😅I'm loving your Fleabag reaction guys, it always makes my day! Can't wait for the next one! :)

I think the shellfish thing was a pure mistake. Fleabag isn't so immoral at this point.

hoping my views and not skipping ads will help you guys invest in a better camera 😅 it seems like you're at 720p while the video from the series is at 1080p.

I love the fact that Fleabag has a near Sapphic Moment with Belinda. We love to see it! Also, Belinda is wise. In an ideal Queer world, they’d be together.
