Monty Python surrealist comedy at its best.
The first few times I saw the Worst Family in Britain sketch it made me laugh so hard I couldn’t breathe. The ironing the teapot, the table collapsing, the guy coming out of the cupboard, and the hanging out the cat on the washing line is all comes together to brilliantly anarchic and is sheer perfection . I RUN OUT OF BEANS is also one of the best lines ever, especially delivered in that voice.

I love all of the subtle details in this sketch. I had to watch it several times to notice the flattened telephone, the toilet seat mirror, and the shrine for Ian Smith. The gaudy, ugly 1970's interior design really accents the theme, too.
I know there was a Python influence but this sketch has The Young Ones all over it - the fast, loud dialogue, random props.. but then to take it further all roads lead to Milligan.

I had exactly the same thought about The Young Ones - the parody of the sitcom format, the bizarre nastiness of it all, and particularly the set, reminded me a lot of Rik and Ade and co. The YOs would break out into discussion shows or light entertainment or youth culture (Nosin’ Aroun’ was made ‘by the kids, for the kids’). I’m glad Python used the connected sketch format. In later shows they wrote 30-min stories which were closer to accepted dramatic formats, but these just weren’t as good as the anarchic free-wheeling approach used here and other earlier shows.

@@MrMusicbyMartin wasn't later shows at all, in fact shows prior to this one had the 30 min story format you mention. This is the 4th series.
I laughed so hard, I went plop-plops.
Pratt... back to Pratt... Pratt again... a long ball out to Pratt... and now Pratt is on the ball, a neat little flick back inside to Pratt, who takes it nicely and sends it through on the far side to Pratt, Pratt with it but passes instead to Pratt, Pratt again, oh and well intercepted by the swarthy little number nine, Concito Maracon. This twenty-one-year-old half back, remarkably stocky for 6' 3", square shouldered, balding giant, hair flowing in the wind, bright eyed, pert, young for his age but oh so old in so many ways. For a thirty-nine.year-old you wouldn't expect such speed. Normally considered slow, he's incredibly fast as he wanders aimlessly around, sweeping up and taking the defence to the cleaners. Who would have thought, though many expected it, that this remarkable forty-five-year-old, 9' 4" dwarf of a man, who is still only seventeen in some parts of the world, would ever really be ... Oh and there was a goal there apparently ... and now it's Pratt ... back to Pratt... Pratt again... a long ball to Pratt...

One of my favorite Python sequences. A running scat theme: laxative cereals: Ano-Weet (FREE INSIDE: THE POPE!), Recto-Puffs, Wilkinsons #8 Laxative Cereal, then Gilliam mentions Corn-Blasters in the second part.
One of my favourite Python sketches, and watching this is preferable to the 3 hour money making luvvy fest at the O2 last week.
The best parody of the horrible, low-class 1974 Wilkins family of the BBC series "The Family"! So funny!
