Nice save! That type of landing gear looks like a prime recipe for a dynamic rollover

Great looking machine. Also a great demo of why you need to feel any helicopter off the ground slowly enough to detect the onset of dynamic roll over before it happens. That was unbelievably close. I've never flown a tri-pod gear helicopter but they really look like dynamic roll-over waiting to happen. I believe there is a normal skid type gear option available for this model. Seems to me that the added weight and expense would be well worth it. Wish I could afford one of these machines. Probably need to get into something that pays better than helicopter flying to afford one : )

Great stuff ! The '3 point' stand IS very poor and Dangerous. A better option would be a 'skid' open triangle design. ie: 2skids meeting at front / center and the rear 'open (starboard to port ) in case of snag danger, of a closed triangle undercarrage. Keep up your great work.

I've never flown an ultralight helicopter but i own a Trike Ultralight and i see the same trends, very first you just want to eaassseee off the ground but sometimes these machines don't "ease" too well. Keeping your whits is half the battle, well done.

The pilot could see it was going to yaw when he started to raise the collective the first time, and yet the second time, when he started to lift off he did not compensate with his pedals, he just yanked it up anyway and almost had a dynamic rollover. You know with helicopters you RARELY get a second chance. That was pure dumb luck.

  • @mrotor88

1300 hours of helicopter time and it was dumb luck. You witnessed the second pickup in less than 30 seconds of total flight time on a brand new helicopter. That's the facts.

Yea that kind of design isn't smart. U should build the landing part with a round pipe and curve it on the front. Take offs and landings are alot easier. Sorry don't know all the helicopter part names but I built 1 to it's loads of fun

There is a testing protocol. This flight was one of dozens in a planned sequence. The flight was a success. The fact that you didn't know this is proof that you're incompetent to build anything more complicated than a PB&J sandwich or fly except as a passenger.
