Mosin Nagant M44 (My Favorite Rifle)

Taking a look at what I (subjectively) consider my favorite rifle. The Mosin Nagant M44 really helped spark my fascination of firearms with it's simple yet industrial design. Also in this video is a quick look at the Nagant M1895 Revolver.

I have to agree. I have a beautiful example of an M44. Made in 1944. I purchased it back when 91/30's, were going for $65.00. I paid a little over a "buck and a half ". Considered high at the time. NO REGRETS. Thank's for posting.

A buck and a half is awesome considering what they're going for these days. I paid around $200-250 and $92 for my 91/30. Ah the good ol' days haha. Thanks for watching ✌️

I also agree. The ammo crate has value also. You can re blue the parts that need it. Matching # is nice. Mine is surplus forced....but shoots like butter. Matching numbers M44 - hard to find in 2024.

Mine has that toe splice in the stock too. That’s definitely a post war refurb Izhevsk. Those stamped metal inserts you have in your sling slots date to late 1945-1948 on M44 carbines. All post war. Check and see if yours is counterbored. It’d be a miracle if it wasn’t.

This is great info and the main reason I wanted to make this video. Thanks! I definitely don't know everything and figured the comments might answer a lot of questions I have about the rifle. And believe it or not, it's not counterbored. The rifling goes all the way to the crown and a bullet will sit on top of the muzzle without dropping inside. Appreciate the comments!

@@AmattEUR I would like to say I really enjoyed watching your very laid back approach to making a vid. It was relaxing and informative. I have a 54' m44 that I havnt yet shot but will after I refinish the stock. I think its a cool rifle, i love old milsurps. Btw where are you @? 🇨🇦

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I also love milsurps, they're built solid and usually very powerful while aesthetically pleasing. I'd recommend not refinishing your stock because the collector market is through the roof right now. However, it is yours and you can't let anyone tell you what to do with your own property. I live in NE Missouri, US. I assume you're in Canada? Beautiful country, I've been there a couple times.

You can easily fix the bayonet. Clean it thoroughly with acetone then use Birchwood Casey’s Perma Blue, wipe on with cloth a few times then rinse off and oil it.

@@AmattEUR welcome boss man! Now do me a favor and see if it’s counterbored. Easiest way is to look down the muzzle and tell me if the rifling ends at the crown/end of barrel. Second easiest way is to take a cartridge and insert it tip first down the end of the barrel. If it only goes in a little past the tip but not as far as the cartridge shell, it hasn’t been fucked with. But if it plunges down all the way past the bullet and stops at the shoulder of the casing, it’s been counterbored. Reason i want to know, is to get an idea of roughly how many escaped this process. I believe that very few did.

I responded to your other comment with that info. But not counterbored. Passed both tests 👍
