Morton Downey Jr. vs. Wally George, Part 1

Ойын-сауық

Morton Downey Jr. visits Hot Seat to argue with Wally over who the true conservative is. The argument leads to Morton being restrained by Wally's security guards. From 1983 or 1984.

Morton Downey, Jr. was a close friend of Wally George. He went on to his own national TV talk show in 1987 and he did appeared in Monsters episode, "A Face for Radio" with Atlantic recording artist Laura Branigan.

FACT: Mr. Downey Jr. & Mr. George, while "on camera/radio/in media" always seemed to give a "we 'hate' each other" perception, truth is, they were actually LONG-TIME friends dating back to the early 1960's. A gentleman whom I know by the name of Walter Von Kristen(sp?) (who has too, since passed) was an assistant/friend to Mr. Downey from way back when. He told me several years ago that both DEEPLY RESPECTED one another and often "hung out". Nevertheless, both were MASTERS @ their crafts!!

This segment was shown in the recent Morton Downey Jr. documentary, "Evocateur". The clips looked to be from the original episode, rather than a highlights one, because they featured the original teaser "Some moron named Morton challenges Wally... NEXT!". If so, it must have been recorded by someone who knew Wally quite well way back when. Because KDOC doesn't have the original master tape of the episode anymore. They destroyed it, along with many of the others.

***** KDOC was a relatively small station back then. They did not have the budget to archive all of Wally's shows. It is a known a fact that most of them were destroyed. The OCWeekly did an article about it several years ago, titled "Wally George Archives: Outta Here?" . And Jeff Tolcher, who was a frequent guest on this show, said the following in the OCWeekly's article on Wally George two months ago: "One of the sad things is that KDOC did not archive all of Wally's shows because they were such a small station. They just recorded over the tapes." With that said, it is a shame that they did destroy many of them. Because this was a very funny, never boring show.

Wallyites: Now, HERE we have the perfect demonstration of cut-rate Combat-talk TV as contrasted with that of high-class, meaning Morton Downey's. (You see, Mr. Downey could actually THINK, rather than just memorize boilerplate shtick to chatter-back while straitening his papers impotently, or pounding his desk frantically.) Though as funny as could ever-be, George's productions are cardboard, as compared to that luxurious paneling that was Downey's. And, as always, it's a king's amusement to watch all those O.C. crypto-gays (closeted) out there, ever-signaling their half-straightness, comprising Wally's peanut gallery. Downey -- the KING of Combat-talk TV . . . "The Mouth That ROARED!!"
