@EpicJason X9000 No question that there is a certain charm to just how awful Annihilation is, but comparing it to Federation of Martial Arts is comparing apples and oranges. One was a major theatrical release while the other one was, for all intents and purposes, a low budget, experimental marketing ploy before watching videos online was a daily occurrence. You can't say the Ferrari Mondial 8 was better than people say because the Ford Pinto was worse. Annihilation's problems are not the VFX, which are not great by any stretch, and downright bad at times, but were par for the course for similar movies at the time. It is the script, acting, and pretty much just ignoring everything the first film did well. - Where the first one kept the focus on staple characters from the games Annihilation bloated the movie with every character that had come out at that point, plus special moves (animalities?), not being able to develop any. Liu Kang is still the protagonist but we only spend brief moments with him. The movie wants to also about Raiden's family issues but we also spend little with him. And the movie also wants to be about Kitana's struggles, and Shao Kang's family issues, and so on and so forth. And then a whole host of characters that appear for a few seconds and never appear again. The movie doesn't know who it wants to focus on or what exactly it wants to be. - Where MK1 kept the story focused on these characters participating in a tournament Annihilation went for godly family conflicts, betrayals, character struggles, prophecies and their fine prints, and a whole host of things unrelated to the games. - Where MK1 very well defined the characters based on their game personalities Annihilation completely goes against what even the first movie, and even games, did. Shao Kang was an insecure kid with daddy issues who wasn't menacing at all, Raiden wasn't the almighty god of thunder, and Liu Kang, after accepting his destiny in the first movie, reverted back to his pre-tournament personality in MK1. Then Sonya is now an all joke-y character when she was all business no-nonsense in the first one, Jax has a 'confidence' problem to justify him having the metal arms from the third game (which is completely pointless once it is revealed that actually it was just a sleeve rather than a having his arms actually replaced like in the game), and Kitana has some mommy issues that last for all but 10 seconds of screen time. Annihilation was the equivalent of Street Fighter The Movie in terms of the treatment of characters: not trusting the source material and trying to change it rather than expand it. - More importantly, the fight choreography and action wasn't good, which was critical for these movies. MK1 nailed the basics of the game while Annihilation was a casualty of the success of the first one. This wasn't a case like with Gi Joe: Rise of Cobra and Gi joe Annihilation, where the second movie nailed the source material better than the first one but was too late to save the franchise. Annihilation can be charming in a 'it's so bad it's good' way for a few good laughs, but it is just a bad movie that learned nothing from what was done with less in the first film and completely missed the point of the source material which even Conquest, creating original characters and having to serializing it, managed to avoid doing.

My problem with Brian Thompson as Shao Kahn was that he was more comedic in Annihilation. He was nowhere near the intimidation level as Frank Welker(first MK movie), Jeffrey Meek(MK: Conquest) and Alex Paunovic(in Legacy) were. Shao Kahn was supposed to be straight to the point, hulking and intimidating.

Citizen Agreed. Conquest still ends bad with Shao Kahn showing off "trophies" of his victims that were killed by the Shadow Warriors, or whatever they were called. Cheap way to present a "Can't Thwart Stage One" trope. If the ending was based on this show's version of the 10th Mortal Kombat tournament on Earthrealm, then it pretty much ends with Outworld conquering everything. Can't get into the Armageddon game because everyone dies in it.

+Quintin Gay The bad ending was because that final episode was supposed to be a cliffhanger that would lead into season 2, which never materialized. The story behind why the show was canceled is a bit mixed up, but it's pretty clear that the ending episode was not meant to be the end of the series.

Cat Of Yoshka \ Yes, I also heard that, apparently they started small but as the show started to become more popular they got a little over-ambitious. The special effects look dated today, but at the time they were really impressive, as were the fight scenes, which were all pre-Matrix works of mastery. The show basically came on air just in time for me to get addicted to it as well. I was 13 when the first Mortal Kombat game came out, and I had just graduated high school when Conquest began airing, so I'd already had 3 or 4 years of watching Bay Watch and following Playboy and Penthouse magazine at the time and I recognized most of the bombshell actresses that they brought in for eye candy. They had a really good thing going, but sadly the original MK craze was starting to die down a bit and they couldn't sustain the show with its sizable yet humble cult following. I would have loved to have gotten a 2nd season as well, for more than just the principle of story continuity since Kung Lao was supposed to die at the hands of Goro in the next tournament, not a bunch of Shadow Priests outside of it, it was a good show with very sympathetic characters, not to mention a great soundtrack.

I had just finished high school when it aired and I recognized almost all of the models that they used for the female characters, I was actually surprised that Julie Strain didn't make an appearance in this thing. Good fight scenes, flawless bombshell actresses as only B-movies can produce, campy special effects and dialogue, basically everything a growing boy needed.

If this show had came out today it wouldn't be that popular like it was then. For two reasons. First one is martial arts in hollywood is dead for years now. Second one MK is not that popular today. This show came out in a perfect time and place back when Mortal Kombat was a huge deal and was in every house. But i guess if this show had came out today then there wouldn't be a budget problem for a second season. Back in 90's a 20+ million dollar budget was to expensive for a TV show...

In each of us there burns the soul of a warrior. In every generation, a few are chosen to prove it. Centuries ago, in a time of darkness and fury, that fate befell three strangers: a monk, Kung Lao... an exiled guard, Siro... and a thief, Taja, who have to defend our Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld by fighting for their lives by fighting for their honor and by fighting for their realm in a tournament called... Mortal

For all you Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans out there, the actor that plays Siro is the same actor who plays the runaway slave in Future War. As a side note, the actress that played Tasha would eventually go on to play the T-X in Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines.

Lore wise, there were plenty of things off like Scorpion and Sub-Zero's backstories and Mileena. Fan service wise, it was silly at times even though it was hot. The rest was alright.

This is the mortal kombat I searched since long time and I just found it today ... it used to transmitted on TV while I was a teenager and suddenly they stopped broadcast it for the reason we didn't know since it's in my mind but couldn't find it elsewhere
