Jarek running off the cliff, then climbing back up, pulling sonya off the cliff, then immediately being thrown BACK off the cliff, is pure cinematic genius. It's oscar material.

This was apparently the first 3D game this studio developed and they were totally overwhelmed by it. So I think the voice acting cues were overlooked. This game was deliberately made less cartoonish (lol) and more violent, hence the penguin nerf. So no this is all meant to be taken fairly seriously at least for a silly fighting game.

The best thing about that cliff cutscene is that it's each character's ending cutscene. Sonya's ends when Jarek falls off the cliff, Jarek's ends when he smashes the walkie-talkie, and Jax is the entire thing.

This was the first game I bought by myself. I saved up and had my aunt take me to this local video game store. Paid for the game in full but then had to come back later because they had t record their shipment. I was obsessed with this game. Played all the way through. All characters, all endings, all fatalities. With no internet kids.

I remember watching these cutscenes as a kid thinking how cool and how real it looks 😳

The sound effects for that game were legendary. Tanya or whatever doing her throw and shouting "You're a potato!" was class

I love how subzero lies almost dead on the ground, not moving, with his eyes closed and then just starts awkwardly wiggling his body while talking and his voice sounds like he's conpletely fine, then goes back to being dead.

I was so stoked to buy Mortal Kombat Gold on the Dreamcast. I played it a fair bit, but it never really clicked with me like the older titles did.

The ice arena I played hockey at had a MK4 machine and we all thought it was the shit. Having mini tournaments and all that, good times.

Mortal Kombat 4 is absolutely amazing and it's unironically my favorite fighting game. I used to love these cutscenes when I was a kid.

Shaq Fu has a tournament scene. Mind blown.

The way Dunkey talks to you in this video like he’s your best friend explaining all the hilarious problems with the last game they played or movie they saw warms my heart.

Shaq fu was justifiably in that flash of “good fighting games on the market”
