No they didn’t Shao Kahn had an amazing first entry and an even better more important story in mk3 making him even stronger in both the story of it and also the actual gameplay he’s a legend Compare that to Shinnok who I love but was playable at his first mainline game and made a fool of by his own henchman quan chi who took the real amulet and he didn’t win Armageddon he should have It could’ve been perfect for him Shinnok was introduced as an elder god who was much stronger than the highest form of shao Kahn but he was now a fallen god and much weaker than he once was he was already severely weakened in his introduction in the series. Shinnok was originally MUCH stronger than shao Kahn or Onaga but and idk if he was weaker as a fallen god to mk2 shao Kahn ,I think he was still slightly more powerful than a base mk2 shao Kahn but not as powerful as a fallen elder god as mk3 shao Kahn who absorbed all earthrealm souls. I think mk3 is when shao Kahn truly surpassed the fallen elder god and indefinitely became a bigger threat and more powerful than shinnok in his fallen god form. He is still powerful in his fall n elder god status it’s just he’s not portrayed that way. Shao Kahn and Onaga are much weaker than the TRUE level of full power elder god Shinnok with his power restored bcuz shaonkajn ar his best couldn’t even scratch raiden and the elder gods compare that to shinnok killing all normal gods but raiden and fujin and almost killing all the elder gods and it took them all to defeat shinnok so there is a gap of power between shaonkajns prime and shinnoks prime One couldn’t scratch the elder gods the other almost destroyed them all… My point is Shinnok is slot more powerful than ppl realize when he has his power restored and more so than sbaonkahn and shinnok is my favorite villain but it’s easy to see that shao Kahn has been the one that shines the most between shaonkajj shinnok Onaga and blaze and deadly alliance. Shaonkahn has despite having originally started off much weaker than emperor Onaga or elder god shinnok managed to kill Onaga twice and take the emperor status in Armageddon atoppped Onaga and Shinnok from winning Armageddon and everyone else he has amazing story but I think shao Kahn the timeline of him who was emperor of outworld for centuries had surpassed Onaga by a slight bit otherwise he wouldn’t have defeated him in Armageddon and claimed victory. Kahn became stronger at his prime from weaker versions of Shinnok or the fallen elder god version of him in mk3 My point is shinnok is this powerful being that neither Onaga nor shao Kahn were anything to him Remember Shinnok is an elder god and he warred with the one being with the other elder gods and defeated the one being. Shinnok almost destroyed all other elder gods so it’s safe to say Shinnok was the main elder god for the one beings defeat THATS ALOT OF POWER! Onaga in his own battle power perhaps was strong and could take down most normal beings but without the kamidogu he can’t come close to warring with the one being and later betraying the other elder gods and almost winning on his own power he wouldn’t get that far without the kamidogu. Shinnoks power is severely underestimated considering his feats of helping defeat the one being and nearly destroying all other elder gods on his own and without any external power ups like Onaga he did it on his own before his power was stripped and yet they have shit on him since the betting making him playable and an easy weak boss in mk4 In canon story he almost took down all the elder gods and normal gods at the same time raiden is included in that war and he went from that and helping take down the one being to losing to Cassie cage and being beheaded by a raiden a much weaker god than him and humiliated! They did not tear down shao Kahn Onaga or even deadly alliance that badly As to have their heads cut off like shinnok was it was insulting as a shinnok lover but I like to think mk11 intro didn’t happen. They shit on shinnok sooo bad every time despite the huge role he played as this ancient god far above emperors Onaga shao Kahn and kotal Kahn. Compared to that shao Kahn’s loses or the ways he’s lost arnt that bad. The problem is he was executed so perfectly in mk2-3 and mk9 that you think he’s been butchered worse than shinnok but at least Kahn had 3 amazing showings and as much as I love shinnok and as powerful as he is in his full power restored, they haven’t allowed him to kill ppl or take everyone to kill him and that’s just sad. At least Kahn didn’t have his head and dignity cut off! Raiden realistically only had the power to do this bcuz he had shinnoks amulet which contains his full elder god power sealed away. When shinnok doesn’t have it he’s basically at a fraction of his power and when someone else wields it they wield shinnoks full elder god power. Raiden possessed shinnoks full power and used it against him to wound and behead him otherwise raidens attacks don’t normally hurt shinnok

Mk1 is the beginning of the new era franchise. Shao Kahn is only starting off as a jobber but overtime in the next game or so on he would work his way from a warlord rebel to the emperor he is destined to be. That is…if he doesn’t get killed off shortly after claiming the throne unless rieko would still be alive to be his successor. Hopefully NRS doesn’t screw it up.

MK11 messed that up, but theres the thing, *Shao KAHN* is this concept, here he is General Shao, a rising power figure in Outworld who has a fraction of his power from the old timeline.

Raiden and shao Kahn needs to return to godhood again

Shao Kahn went from being the mastermind of the OG timeline to being a think-less brute who gets beaten as much as Reiko. Also, this is by far his worst design; I despise the horns that ruins his skull masks. As a kid, I always thought that Shao was an earthrealmer who went to Outworld and became their King. And it would've been a cool concept for MK1 for Shao to be one of Liu Kang's champions and has to compete against Raiden to be the champion, but his jealousy towards Raiden pursues to Outworld and becomes their champion and eventually overthrows Mileena as Kahn from the thirst of conquering.

The thing people hate about this timeline is the new stuff they did when it’s literally a *new* timeline, Liu Kang is now Time Keeper so just watch and play alright? I would rather the old timeline’s but this timeline is also kinda good (Just hope Hanzo has a better life, he needs to rest)

Exactly, and to think people still believe aftermath was actually redemption of shao Kahn (when in reality, it was shit covered with sprinkles - context included, shao is still a terrible character in aftermath) is just straight coping and can’t deal with the fact NRS doesn’t seem to like shao Kahn anymore

The feeling of relief you feel when you finally beat him will never be matched in this modern MK ever! Next best boss was Onaga who was his emperor before shao betrayed him! Shinnok should be more powerful than both but they already jobbed him out to a teenage girl…

Too much of a good thing is bad, Shao has been used to death that he doesn’t carry the same weight anymore like he once did. As for Titan Havik, I would definitely say he’s a good character, Havik has a lot of potential which this is the original Havik not the new timeline one.

They just started jobbing him out so much to the point that he’s just not scary anymore. They are obviously out of creative ideas at this point and had to go the multiverse route where “anything could happen”. They could have used shao as the new vessel for onaga since he is half dragon in this timeline if anything. I’m not saying havic isn’t a good character in concept I’m saying he isn’t a good character gameplay wise but that’s just my opinion. MKX comics used him perfectly as cleric of chaos causing all types of chaos behind the scenes through manipulation and convincing reiko to become a blood god! That’s a much better route than introducing Titians. Where could they possibly go from here if they already introduced the beings who created the universe itself?

Shao is no longer the main villain of MK over the years the 2 main villains became Shang Tsung and Quan Chi with Shao being third

I for one am excited to see Shao learn sorcery for the first time, if they go that route. And I love his new design. I prefere his old personality but his new design rocks in my eyes. In an Aftermath expansion he should show up and steal a soul for the first time to show how he's learned sorcery. Hell, he could show up and steal the souls of all Havik's servants.

Reading by the comments, i can see that NRS have achieved its goal of ruining Shao Khan image for the public. Turning him into a brain dead brute. Real MK OG fans know Shao Khan is a legendary boss of not just MK but video game history. Shame on you NRS for turning him into a joke.

Shao's greatest weakness is how long the series has gone on. An easy source of narrative tension is to pit a weak character against the powerhouse and pose the question "How can they possibly survive?" Then if that character _does_ survive, the weaker character gains while the strong one loses their edge. The greater the number of mortals who can fight Shao Kahn and survive, the more his reputation suffers. The alternatives are to maintain the hierarchy that only one or two characters have a chance (which gets boring after many installments) or to keep escalating the power scale of new threats (which also shifts Kahn and every other villain down the power ladder)

They've got to figure something out. All they did was, despite an actually great story, make the characters boring. Shao Kahn was way more dynamic than General Shao and Good Sindel is back to things just happening to her. I still don't get the fans that acted like they cared about Sindel before the "retcon." Seriously, the boring characters kill me because I tend to play with characters I like instead of whoever may be the best characters.

Shao Kahn is my favorite kharacter in Mortal Kombat Universe. He is charismatic, fierce and a true leader. His will on achieving his targets is admirable. I remember facing him for the very first time many years ago and being terrified by the such power. (Those days he was mysterious and interesting, when we were boys we loved to discuss how he actually looks like without a skull mask and what's the stroy behind the cruel Emperor). As time went, I've seen him in the new games and I am not very satisfied with the situation now. His new design is cool, he got an interesting story of being weak child who after endless of brutal trainings transformed himself into one of the most reputable warriors of Outworld and champion of the Empire. But, where is Shao we used to know? Presently his presence doesn't scare anyone. Every other kharacter can beat him in kombat, even Reptile (Syzoth) could win the General who has huge experience and vanquished thousands of wars before... Is it logical? I hope the Netherrealm studious will bring REAL him back in the DLC story.

The only thing I see is to bring back the one from the original time.

Only Liu kang, raiden, fallen elder god shinok, elder God's, kronika , onaga , maybe shujinko, taven , blaze can beat old timeline shao kahn if we look at the power scaling of those characters against old timeline shao kahn.

I disagree that it made sense that Shao and even the Edenians lost to Raiden in MK1. Shao is a decorated war hero and general who potentially has thousands of years of experience in combat (including the Edenians). Madam Bo may have trained Raiden at a young age and is gifted a magic amulet but he shouldn't be able to weave his new powers that quickly and go against someone who has more experience than him and win the first time around. I know it's due to player influence but why couldn't Raiden/Earthrealm lose in a cutscene. It would be a great way to show Shao's might and back up what Sindel what saying about him. I feel they should've allowed us to play as the villains in half of the story to show they are a threat to be taken seriously and then in the end they lose. And again Shao could've had more nuance in this new timeline and instead they made him into a generic bad guy. Tanya also deserves a video like this and she is the only character in the whole of MK1 to have changed so drastically as to not even be remotely recognizable save for the fact she wears yellow.

But m8, that's Shao Kahn vs Liu Kang but less worse, Raiden's victory over Shao is much more beliveable than Liu's victory over Shao Kahn. Shao Kahn is leaps and bounds stronger, powerful and more experienced than General Shao.

When it came to MK 1, I'm glad he wasn't the main villain, other than Titan Shang Tsung. But with Titan Havik, best move.

Don't forget that in MK 1, Liu Kang made Shao, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi weaker on purpose, so they would pose no threat to this new era. They only became a threat after Titan Shang Tsung meddled with Liu's design for them. I can totally see the rise of Shao Khan in future games in the new era.

General Shao vs Titan Havik main story..

NRS seems to enjoy wrecking peoples favorite characters into insufferable punching bags.

I want this timeline to go to hell. And what I mean by that is that I went everything to turn south. I want Onaga back in control, Lin Kuei to annihilate the Shirai Ryu, for Shang Tsung/Quan Chi to become powerful threats, the realms against each other and Shao KAHN to make his debut in all of the mess. Now that Shang Tsung messed with Liu Kang’s timeline and Havik plans to do the same, I went this timeline to feel like that Dark and Gritty MK we know. I think General Shao should become Shao Kahn after Onaga is killed. And then Outworld into not nice Earthrealm we know.

Since this a new story with different backstory and different motivations then usual we could get a different story from the old stuff. Plus don’t act like there’s not anything new to work with either. These are the same characters with different backstory’s. So…it would be a same story…with widely different outcomes.

I've had this theory that Shao will create the Red Dragon in this timeline given his Draconic appearance, him and his soldiers wear red, shokans(half human/half Dragon) being on his side, and the Dragon King emblem on his and the soldiers chest plates.

MK 11 shao khan was the best Kotal never really beat him and Lu kang had to intervene & still shoa khan broke his back Shang tsung even with the crown had to attack him from behind Kitana he did take seriously and paid for it In aftermath he dominated everyone and cut kotal head off ..again shang tsung had to attack him from behind Shao khan look in MK 11 was the best look he ever had . Aftermath was shit covered in disguise, mate. Most of his wins aren’t confirmed to be his since you get to pick him or sindel, gets to be the person who beats the opponent (in which that means in actuality and possibly, sindel won all this fights which make his record still unimpressive. His only confirmed wins are KK and liu kang in which aren’t impressive considering KK got reduced to a joke already and FGLK confirmed that he made it that way so he can have his way with shang (meaning Shao wouldn’t have done what he did with liu, hadn’t liu done his plan in aftermath and even then, powerscaling issues). He’s sindel’s and Shang’s bitch (which is worse for sindel’s case considering mk9 had him considered to be a more of a pain in the ass with him showing no love and then in mk11, he’s showing love to a woman who would drop him on a dime the moment she finds something more powerful- which is further confirmed by her intros with cetrion, spawn and sindel’s ending in mk11). Shao’s a dumb simp, who facades to have an impressive record (when in reality he doesn’t in aftermath) bcoz he’s piss poor useless without his woman, who would betray him the moment she got more power.

I like Shao Kahn as a Vaillin and bad guy how did he come back in mortal kombat 11 can someone explain that to me!

Onaga was never originally evil It was Kahn that betrayed him poisoned him and then upon onagas death the one beings evil tainted onagas soul and he was now evil and influenced directly by the one being It’s when Onaga wanted to gather the kamidogu bcuz it www really the one being wanting to use Onaga as a pawn and a puppet or vassal to return. Onagas soul used reptiles body The one being used onagas soul himself But before Onags originally died the first time he was actually a good ruler to his people It was Kahn’s meddling and killing that caused the one being to influence Onaga in death when Onaga changed. Idk, in this timeline Onaga seems more like a beast than the genius he was in the previous

Shao Khan hasn't been a true threat since MK9... Even in MK9 he was beaten twice and almost died at the hands of Liu Kang at the end of the MK2 portion of the game! He was still dead during MKX and played a minor role in MK11 though the MK11 Aftermath Storyline gave him a bit of a good run until Shang Tsung killed him

The only way imo Shao Kahn can be restored along with the storyline is to have another reboot but this time it has nothing to do with previous games' continuation not even MK1, making it a fresh start. In this new continuation, an element from his original incarnation will be brought over: his intellect, something that has been missing in his nowadays' portrayals. I will put a bit of Darkseid in his personality and mannerism as well making other characters actually fear him instead of having the guts to trash-talk him (unless you're Johnny of course). I also have some changes to some characters as well: - Raiden and his brothers were originally Onis from Netherrealm who longed to live in Earthrealm. They became gods after Raiden defeated Shinnok in Earthrealm with the aids of the Elder Gods. - Shao Kahn had a brother named Sebek Kahn who pledged loyalty to Onaga for resurrecting Shao Kahn when he died during Tervarian war. Shao Kahn later killed him since he stayed loyal to Onaga during Shao Kahn's coup d'etat. - The Edenians inspired the legends of Babylonian and Egyptian gods, much like how Osh-tekk inspired Mayan legends in Earthrealm. Therefore, the Edenians would resemble gods from those pantheons.

Also when Shao said "you suck" the subtitles picked up "you fu**"

I wanna Shao & Shinnok become alliance!! And Kung Lao in the way of his counterpart, Titan Kung Lao & kung lao become humble like great kung lao

People always forget that Kitana was marching on Kahn's keep and going to whip Shao Kahn's himbo ass before the events of Deadly Alliance before Shang Tsung and Quan Chi got to him.

She had united the Shokan and the Centaur, if I recall correctly, and had both realms of Outworld and Edenia pretty much on good terms. She likely would have easily conquered the weakened Shao Kahn had the threat of the Deadly Alliance not ruined everything.

Kai should've been the main character champion of liu kang and onaga should've been a boss and motaro should've been a sub boss the deadly alliance boss battles were mid and arent like the old games

Onaga and shinnok are made mindless and powerless 😒 Besides them though I think BLAZE is the other boss that’s forgotten about I hated Blaze bcuz he had no threat at all bcuz he didn’t plan on ruling destroying etc he literally was meant to be killed but if they changed it to where he WAS the big villain trying to do so it would make him much more interesting and maybe have an army of fire spawn soldiers would be amazing he has so much potential as does shinnok and Onaga and they wasted them all

You’re definitely right about that. Always being Shang, Shao, quan chi, or shinnok. We definitely need a new big bad. Onaga would be a perfect fit for the role. Or a whole new character. But going by how mk1 ended it might be Titan Havok. We definitely need a change though

I feel like Kitana killing Shao is fine in 11 the issue is, his earlier defeats should be him underestimating the state of things in mk 11. Cause Kotal as much of a jobber he is was stronger than the last time Shao saw him. Though I get and honestly enjoy your idea. Also dont mind the subtle change in part of his characterization as in how he wants his kingdom, honestly I'd laugh if when he conquered his realm he's somewhere between his past self and current sindel. Like lusts for power and bloodthirsty as hell but only his enemies get to fully see that.

I think we need to explore kitana as emproress instade of shao because he's a been there done that too many times and we need something new. we never got a chance to see how kitana would had rule back in mk 11 and I would like to see that instade.

I hope that if Shao ever becomes Kahn and then dies in this timeline, that Reiko gets to take his place.

Can You please do a restoring Goro video? I mained him in MKX and now he seems to be a punching bag in every game. I'm not transphobic but I think that transexual activist worker has a lot to do with how the story is portrayed

They didn't really ruin it,it was bound to happen regardless cause that's what happens series go on for so long

Seeing Shao Kahn be defeated multiple times in the story is actually kinda funny to me, so I don't really want to see him return to that final boss level status he used to have.

At this point I feel like Titan Havik is the best move! It’s a story we have never got to truly touch on!! Chaosrealm has just been a part of the game that we catch every now and again! It’s always focused on earthrealm outworld and Edenia! Let’s tap into chaos realm! Good outcome or bad outcome I need something different At this point

At this point, NRS are *"ID*OTS"*, they don't even know where they are going, they'll keep messing up their own history, as a script writer and more, it's disgusting and annoying, not to mention their laziness with the chapter system, that's why I never ever played a story mode under NRS

May I ask all of you, why is this change so much of an issue? I, for one, have found it refreshing seeing a difference of narrative. If the timelines were always written by one entity, Kronika, then he would always "be made" the one way. Being that he now was made by another, we get to see him in a new way, but, as much, get to see him "come back" to his prior glory irrespective of Liu Kang's involvement. It is likely a higher force that seems to weave certain insisted destinies over others.

The only people who should be able to beat Shao Kahn is Raiden, Liu Kang, Onaga, The Elder Gods, and maybe Kung Lao, Shinnok & Shang Tsung

I would say Onaga and he was his master but this was long before shao Kahn rose to power. Onaga outclassed general or advisor shao not shao Kahn the emperor. Shinnok is indefinitely much stronger than any form of shao Kahn when shinnoks power is fully restored. At his peak in mk3 mk9 shao Kahn couldn’t scratch raiden and the elder gods and Kahn was quickly killed Compare that to shinnok at full power and he nearly destroyed all the elder gods and normal gods at the same time in one long war! Also even before this,Shinnok was one of the elder gods that helped defeat the one being! Shao Kahn at his best proved he couldn’t harm the elder gods in mk9 Onaga without the kamidogu also doesn’t compare he’s not that strong unless he has those relics they boost anyone so much more But they can’t do what shinnok did helping to defeat the one being Im sure shinnok at his prime was the main reason for the one beings downfall and that’s ALOT OF POWER to put down the one being. No he wasn’t stronger than the one being but the fact that shinnok almost put down all the other elder gods on his own proves he is easily much stronger in his prime than the other elder gods,the same ones that disposed of shao Kahn so quickly… So logically it would make sense Shinnok was the main elder god that was the biggest cause for the one beings defeat in the war between the elder gods and the one being. Shinnok at his prime was fighting the one being along with the other elder gods and later fighting the elder god themselves Compared to shinnok shao Kahn is nothing I don’t see him warring with the one being or the other elder gods like shinnok did Same with Onaga he was only super powerful bcuz of the kamidogu which is literally the one beings essence and power It wasn’t really Onaga but the kamidogu or the one being who’s power ppl saw in deception The kamidogu gave Onaga a massive boost which when taken away in the following game Onaga is seen how strong he is in his own power and not that strong he couldn’t defeat shao Kahn. But yes shinnok and kronica are far above shao Kahn Onaga as emperor was superior to advisor shao But when shao became shao Kahn he was emperor for centuries became much more powerful and surpassed Onaga in Armageddon Onaga was only once again stronger bcuz of the kamidogu in deception but w.oit he reverted baxk to the power when he was emperor and poisoned by shao Except this time shao was shao Kahn and much stronger so Onaga was no longer stronger unless he had kamidogu. But going back to shao Kahn,yes only a few characters should be able to take him Onaga and shinnok down

I always, since MK9 especially, viewed Shao Kahn as a bully type. He'll cheat, he'll sneak attack, he'll be indirect, and he'll get BS power-ups or hacks when needed, but as a character, he's cowardly and weak. Poisoning Onaga, sneaking up on Kung Lao, needing clones and mystics to keep him alive, and due to writing surviving ridiculous amounts of damage that don't make sense... I see him as pathetic, and likely always will. When someone just gets to fight him straight up, feels like he loses most of the time, so all his grand presence is a facade, just like every dictator and bully. I don't think there is anything to save with Shao Kahn, because being pathetic is kind of his thing. Even Shang Tsung can out scheme him easily... like the guy is a walking L.

Mk 1 just sucks all reboot characters are ruined

Shao and Goro sadly became jobbers over the years.

General Shao is fine the way he is. Him as Shao Khan was getting old after awhile. Let others grow.
