    I absolutely love this song describes my situation perfectly,I used to look for love all the time and I always got dissapointed ,hurt and sad. I realised that Morrissey is right,there are worse things in life than never have loved or been loved by somebody.Morrissey has changed my life for the better,he doesn´t know it...yet.

    Same here, this song changed my life immeasurably. For years I agonised about being single. Then I heard this song on the radio and it cured me! Pretty much instantly, I learned to just be happy being single and concentrate on all the good things about my life. Absolute life-changer

    I was wasting my time Trying to fall in love Disappointment came to me and Booted me and bruised and hurt me That's how people grow up That's how people grow up I was wasting my time Looking for love Someone must look at me And see their sunlit dream I was wasting my time Praying for love For a love that never comes from Someone who does not exist and That's how people grow up That's how people grow up Let me live before I die Not me, not I! I was wasting my life Always thinking about myself Someone on the deathbed said "There are other sorrows too" I was driving my car I crashed and broke my spine So yes, there are things worse in life than Never being someone's sweetie That's how people grow up That's how people grow up That's how people grow up That's how people grow up As for me I'm okay For now anyway

    "I imagine the reason clinge to hatred so passionately is that they fear that if they didn't, then they would finally see their own pain." -James Baldwin This is a song about a bitter older man who is mentally reliving his life choices in a quest to try and figure out how his life went wrong. But he figures out that it wasnt a single choice, rather a series of bad choices. He feels intense self hatred of himself for being to young and impulsive to realise the truth until just now.

    So many artists in later years lose it, so often writing watered down or uninspired music. Oddly enough, this is one of Morrissey's best efforts cover to cover. It's as creative and cutting as his best, going back even as far as 1994's Vauxhall and I. Nothing better than a super talented artist with much to say staying as vital in later years. Great stuff.

    The resignation as he sings this song.. it's so sad.. but in a way it's not. I mean it's probably better to face up to the fact that he's gonna live his life just like he's undoubtedly gonna die..alone and not feel constantly sad about this celibacy. I wish I had the strength and intelligence to understand this as well. Oh well, I'll never learn...

    In my personal interpretation, I guess the main character in the song holds some unrealistic beliefs about life and love, like waiting for an idealized woman that does not even exist, or unpractical, like thinking only about oneself and then not wanting to end up alone. By facing the consequences with dissapointment (at least in this stage) is how people grow. What do you think?

  • @jo101214

    @jo101214

    yeah I kinda agree with what you're saying. I also think it's about Morrissey finally realising that Love and relationships will never happen to him, so it's best to simply give up on it. It's quite a contrast if you listen to this song and "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday".
