@@ironduke5058 there's no air on that moon so the barrel can only lose heat by radiating it away and by letting some heat flow back to the rest of the gun.

I don't know. As soon as you develop a new IP, I think the most important thing is identity and this is very clearly a close derivative, even going so far as to almost lift parts from Astartes, especially at the end. There's a lot to improve on here and I hope they get someone to think deeper than the pure aesthetics of the scene.

he technically shot 6 times which would be 12 rounds (6 rounds per barrel) so that still wouldnt be even close to make either barrel red hot like that even in the vacuum of space. we've actually shot guns in space from space stations. regardless i saw what he was trying to convey and still made an excellent animation and hope to see more from them.

I LOVE the touch that the barrel is so hot after so few shots because they're on a moon with no atmosphere so thermal radiation is the only way the barrel is losing heat. Magnificent attention to detail.

​@se425 But the main way most things are cooled is with convection cooling. Things cool down with convection because cooler air or liquids passing by the hot thing absorb the heat and remove it. The only method of losing heat in space is through radiating it, which is massively inefficient. The cold you would feel is just your heat radiating away, not because space itself is "cold". Temperature is caused by atoms in the air bouncing against you. The slower the atoms, the colder you feel; the faster, the hotter. Space is "void", not "cold". There's nothing there to carry away heat. Think of liquid-cooled computers, or how regular computers have fans that convect heat away. Without those, most computers would overheat in minutes, no matter how cold it is around them. Rooms with banks of supercomputers infamously feel like saunas, even with cooling systems. Without convection, heat is lost slowly.

The sound design of being out in space and only hearing the sound passed through the hull is such a beautiful touch

While I can definitely feel the 40k esthetic, im really surprised by how distinct and intricate this new world looks! Those 5 minutes are so detailed, it feels like a fan work of an already established universe and not a brand new IP. Really well done!

Love the detail of the gun barrel getting super-hot because heat can't disperse as easily in a no-atmosphere environment.

Finally, it's nice that we can get a spiritual successor to the Astartes animation. For a budding animated series, I'd say it's a strong opening for something that's finding its feet. I'm excited to see what comes next.

The elites of society treat it like any other war - as entertainment. There's, so far, been no indication of any meaningful religion, much less extreme and wide-spread zealotry. The only similarity is "big men in big bulky space armor fighting aliens with sleek blue-white designs" which isn't even that uncommon. I mean, if this and WH40K are the same thing, then so is Starcraft, for example, and even if you believe the (false) rumors that Starcraft was "supposed to be a WH40K game", it's still very much it's own thing that merely draws a lot of inspiration from the same sources as WH40K, or use 40K as an inspiration itself. Your ungrounded pessimism is heard, but it is foolhardy. Equating two works merely for similar design choices would invalidate most of the modern gaming and TV industry. There is such a thing as being too pessimistic, and your own claim borders on being contrarian for the sake of merely being contrarian.

One of the small details i like about these guys that distinguish them from Astartes, is how they still show signs of human vices. A space marine would be as still as a statue prior to going into combat, and they dont twitch or make any movement that isnt precise and direct. Here you can see that they're all kinda twitchy and anxious while sharing narcotics(something no astartes would ever bother with), checking their gear, and looking around at each other. That more than anything really sets these guys apart from their Warhammer counterparts.

I adore how chunky the computer's feel. Really gives off an Alien vibe which, is fitting since from the little lore we have, Weyland-Yutani would feel right at home in this galaxy.

Yeah, I like the retro computer interface. It's one of my favorite aesthetics. Moreover, it really leans into the idea that it's the technology employed by corporations that are stingy with their funding. The forces in this setting probably _could_ upgrade the user interface of their computers. They choose not to, because that would cost money.

Love how grounded this looks. No heat dispersion, low gravity, juiced up soldiers. Can't wait for more. These guys would also look great as miniatures since they are not decorated like christmas trees😂

as someone who studied heat transfer, I love the detail of the gun barrel heating quickly

Holy shit that was awesome. Not just in the animation, but the pacing, sound, and vibe was just impeccable. So siked to see this continue.

I'm glad animators that are hit by gw's atrocious ban hammer are now finding ways to resurface and continue doing what they're passionate about, while also giving people quality content. Like sodaz whos currently working on a fall out fan animation.

This is just Corperate Space Marines from 40k... and I absolutely love it!

I'm not gonna lie despite the very astartes-esque soldiers in the tank this does look pretty fucking good

That sergeant should have been a psych casualty three tours ago. Amazing work, whoever did his expressions.

Love the armor design, feels like a mash up of 40K Space Marines, Fallout Power armor (especially at 3:21 with the ribbed underglove and padding) and roman legionnaire armor. Keen to see how this series progresses!

I'd also like to point out how their armor have spots with exposed mechanical parts like the Fallout power armors, especially in the face, but bear a shape similar to the Astartes. I love the space marines but sometimes their armor is too smooth, especially if you're not an overly decorative chapter. I understand it's because their armor is near flawless (lol) that they have little exposure to mechanical parts but who doesn't like a little more detail in their design?

GOD I freaking LOVE the attention to detail here! from sound design to the fact that the barrels of the guns glow red hot because they can't cool as effectively since there is no atmosphere and as such they retain a majority of the heat I just, god this is amazing, keep it up

Love the sound design especially the transition between the interior of the APC and the space outside.

The beauty of this is not missed. The care of detail The physics The voice acting Phenomenal.

Some cosmic event caused an alien race (The antagonist in the video) took refuge in their territories thus starting the exogen wars where merceneries (Space marines alike) are fought.

I love how by every angle you can see what this is inspired by but still winds up being its own cool idea. Bravo, just bravo. Look forward to more

Really liked how the gun heated up and couldn't cool because it's in a vacuum.

This gives off some major 40K vibes. Absolutely Badass. Don't know what this channel was previously, but I definitely subscribed to it for its quality.

I cant freaking stop watching this. This is giving me the same kinda feeling and thoughts' that Dune did when I read the books. I want to explore, I want more, I NEED more! Holy crap I want a table top and video game of this!

TBH I thought this was going to be another average animation but that was shattered when I saw how the APC's suspension was animated. Good job! Armor and weapon designs are superb. Vastly out does modern 40k aesthetics. It actually looks like grim dark diesel punk.

Warhammer 40k if GW wasn't dumb

I know there is is sort of a legally distinct 40K vibe to get around GW being shitty, but I genuinely love the strangeness of this. Where 40K leans in on World War 1 aesthetics for its environments, weapons, and battles, this has a very distinct cold war era futurism. It's fucking sick and quite original. Respect

Can't wait to see more of this. This IP has more of this 80's vibe in its aesthetic. I'm eager to know more about all this universe.

​@@JustownerI'd say the armor also looks like it's from Wolfenstein or Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, with some Fallout around the arms and the helmets being close to Space Marines

love how much worldbuilding is in the intro alone: this is war, but the (presumably) high end mercenaries have to rely on woefully outdated equipment because the expenses for newer gear thats not riddled with systems errors isnt considered necessary.

This could be a battle brothers cinematic for one page rules. They should cooperate. Awesome video.

Interesting touch on the barrels. Starts glowing on the first burst, which also completely effs up an entire light AT squad. I also noticed no tracer (unnecessary with scopes & integratedoptics) & minimal delay between burst & detonation, so the projectiles must be moving at extreme velocities, which matches with the behaviour of the gun. A gun that is never fired full-auto, always in bursts akin to the trigger pull of an M4. So these bullets are fast & hefty enough to rupture some kind of high-density energy cells as seen against the AT threat, but are also able to pucture the armored cowling & to damage the structural bracing of a lightly armored air transport with AP or multipurpose solid shot. Yeah, I can totally appreciate why the barrels are *glowing* after one burst in a vacuum. Beautiful attention to detail.

I kinda have a problem with the glowing barrels. You see 40k as grimderp as everyone makes it out to be, bolters use rockets, meaning the barrels themselves are not that important, sure they'll heat up and eventually warp despite how thick they are, but in this universe it would make the barrels extremely unreliable. Bolters would be the Correct thing to do, after all they are 'Space' marines and no one really cares to see past the derp and silliness.

THIS IS AWESOME!! I absolutely love the utilitarian design of the soldiers and vehicles, reminds me of Starcraft. Looked like those guys were taken adrenaline boosters too. Absolutely fantastic!! Also I've listened to enough comm chatter in my day that I was actually able to understand what was said in the beginning. This is gonna be an awesome series!

It reminds me the good old project astartes. The details are awesome: the unstable movement of warriors inside the running transport, the red hot gun due to lack of air for cooling in the void. Love it.

great video! I like the touch that even the elite force from the corporations have still problems with the equipment, because, most probably, the corporation was not buying the hottest shit but was cutting some costs there (regarding the intro scene where the repair request was denied). really nice!

That's a nice touch, that the barrel glows red from the first shot. And only glows brighter. In a vacuum, the heat has no way to dissipate except as radiation and light.
