Running time: 93 minutes

Genre: Comedy/Indie Film
This review works best if you have seen this film before, though that is not required. Spoiler alert
"Mobsters and Mormons" (2005), directed by John Moyer, is a comedic romp that blends together two seemingly disparate worlds with hilarious results. At the center of this zany adventure is the star of the show, Michael Kagan, whose comedic timing and charisma elevate the film to new heights.
Kagan's portrayal of the bumbling yet endearing Mormon bishop, Alex, is a tour de force of comedic brilliance. From his earnest attempts to navigate the dangerous world of organized crime to his comically awkward interactions with his fellow Mormons, Kagan's performance is a masterclass in physical comedy and deadpan delivery. His presence on screen is a constant source of laughter, with each line delivery and facial expression eliciting uproarious laughter from the audience.
Indeed, "Mobsters and Mormons" is filled to the brim with laugh-out-loud moments, thanks in large part to Kagan's comedic genius. Whether he's unwittingly getting mixed up in a mobster's scheme or trying to maintain his cover as a devout Mormon while surrounded by criminals, Alex's antics never fail to entertain.
However, despite Kagan's stellar performance, the film does have its shortcomings. One of the main criticisms leveled against "Mobsters and Mormons" is its reliance on the same jokes and comedic tropes throughout the film. While the humor is undeniably effective, it can feel repetitive at times, with certain gags and punchlines becoming predictable after a while.
Additionally, some viewers may find the film's premise to be somewhat contrived, with the juxtaposition of Mormonism and organized crime feeling forced at times. While this juxtaposition does lead to some amusing situations, it can also come across as gimmicky and overdone.
Overall, "Mobsters and Mormons" is a hilarious comedy that showcases Michael Kagan's comedic talents in full force. While it may rely on the same jokes a bit too heavily, its laugh-out-loud moments and charming lead performance make it a thoroughly enjoyable watch for fans of light-hearted comedy.

Conclusion
I love how the Chessmen family never gets baptized, that would have absolutely ruined the film. And while this low budget attempt and juxtapositional satire has a bunch of laugh out loud moments, after 90 minutes the film’s one trick pony got a bit tired.
