He def took the style of Shanon Larkin who in my opinion started a lot of that hard hitting swing entertaining style back in 80s with Wrath child and also very much like Jamie Miller from Snot whom they both really fed off each other back day and pushed what Shannon sorta started to whole new level. Not many hard rock/metal drummers out there that are getting to be his age that still hit as hard and play the way they do . Though he has learned to tone down and make it look like he’s hitting hard without having to hit so hard all time now he’s seasoned and older wiser lol . Will always be awesome and continues to push himself every album ! Great drummer and great dude ! Whole band is great and awesome guys! Can’t say that much about many bands !

@@kennyregiecyadingus Sharing some flare maybe but Morgan owns this style. Larkin is a beast with long arms (visual advantage ?) similar to Tommy Lee but Morgan expresses himself much differently on the kit. Might be the music but watching Morgan play Sevendust songs is incredibly satisfying and not sure you get that same feeling from Larkin or the SNOT guy playing their catalogue. Watching this intimate drum show is nothing like watching him on stage lit up and fucking killing it. Saw him live at the Hard Rock in Boston back in the day and everyone of my friends was like who the fuck is that fucking guy on the drums ? Never been to a show since where anyone mentioned the drummer in the context of a band; ever (not talking about drum solo's ) ! This band would be NOTHING without this guy on the drums. Amazing !! His technique leaves something to be desired but to watch him play in his heyday is unscripted and unbridled joy.

You’re absolutely right and Morgan does own this unique hard hitting , flowing , visual style . He does it the best and over years he just keeps taking it to whole new level ! He by far my favorite along with very few others . Just saying though not many people realize how much Shannon Larkin started back in the early Wrathchild America days so many other drummers (Not Morgan ) try to imitate him . I hate Godsmack but glad that guy caught break he so deserved . But the early Sevendust tours when they played so much with their close buddies in Snot Jamie Miller pulls lot of Morgan style stuff before Morgan was doing it even had the braids before him . Now not taking anything from Morgan . I’m huge fan and he my favorite drummer . Only difference is Morgan continued to take it and evolve it constantly over all these years which works better as well for his style of music with out over doing like other drummers (cough cough like Zoltan 🤮🤣 ). Jamie still has amazing style but he’s been doin lot more faster style punk rock these days but if you see some rare old footage or Jamie and Morgan playing same shows in 90s those guys pushed each other for Morgan to eventually master that unique style and make it his . He’s def the best in that style and took it to whole new level . But those guys def played early influence in ways especially Jamie Miller . But hail Morgan!! Lol

@@joelopez9627 He def does ! It’s that swing that always drew my attention to my favorite drummers . You can def see the Tommy influence as well as Shannon Larkin (Before he was in Godsmack) who also really helped pave way of that cool swing style take it to another level . I’m not huge fan Godsmack personally but Shannon I am and was happy to see that dude at least catch a break with big band that dude deserved it. But there is also one other drummer that has always been very overlooked as well Jamie Miller from Snot . Back in the day when Sevendust and Snot toured all time together you could really see Morgan and Jamie sorta feeding off each other with their similar style and influence each other . I think those three especially Jamie really played huge influence . But after all these years Morgan has really taken that and continued to evolve and take it to next level . Love guys that can be entertaining & have that wrong without over doing it to point it’s annoying (like Zoltan ….cough …cough ..cough.) lol

    2 жыл бұрын

Haha! Im huge Pearl guy as well I own reference pure love it . He used to use zildjian but switched to Sabian which personally im not fan of . But to answer your question about all that punishment necessary ? I think that really all depends on type of music and atmosphere . However I was always taught that drums are meant to be beaten!!! That to me shows pure feeling the music I’ve always enjoyed hard hitting drummers but only in that style of music . As he’s gotten older he has laid back little by creating illusion sometimes he’s hitting really hard but also pulling back little sometimes . I myself have always been naturally a hard hitter and enjoy the energy! That’s one show you go to and majority of the people have their eyes glued on drummer . Especially at his age there’s not many drummers out there anymore at that age that are hard hitters anymore . Guys like Shannon Larkin in early days before Godsmack helped influence a lot of this style that so many rock drummers take from and don’t know it however Morgan has taken it to whole other level and done his own thing I just think Shannon was one of the earlier guys to play similar hard hitting style . I miss the days when Sevendust toured with Snot before Lynn Strait past because not a lot of people know but Snot drummer Jamie Miller (Now Bad Religion) both played very similar in my opinion in some ways and fed of each other . I think they pushed each other in there energetic style . There’s genres of music that hard hitting wouldn’t do music justice but when it comes to hard hitting in pocket hard rock/metal I’d much rather enjoy watching that over drummer who doesn’t live up to the energy of the music . But then there are guys like John Paul from Clutch who for his style and type of music he hits very controlled and light that fits their music so well. So in my opinion all depends on music . But hell yeah if your playing hard rock/metal those drums are meant to be beaten in my opinion!!!
