i don't understand why he wasn't nominated for this role, one of the best I have ever seen from him and as a 13-year old, seeing this scene made me shiver and it would have made me stop if I was into drugs :)

I like how even when he's pissed and disciplining a kid he uses high level vocabulary. As a teacher I know plenty of kids who would benefit from such a speech (not necessarily referring to crack, but in general)

The thing is, he was already nominated for "Driving Miss Daisy" that same year, and Academy rules say only one performance per category, and it obviously wasn't a supporting role, so he couldn't go into that category (although he could have for Glory, which was also released in 1989).

The boy I mentioned did go back to school later, but not the one where I was. The real Joe Clark said that you can't force a teenager to go to school and learn, and if he's going to act like he doesn't care, you have to let him go. But if he admits he made a mistake and wants to come back, the doors have to be open. It's called tough love.

I swear Morgan freeman could play dr Claude Anderson if there was ever a movie of him made if he used this characters swag.
