'More work to be done': Chancellor reacts to UK economy growing 0.4% in May

The appearance of finer weather helped the economy recover some lost ground in May, according to official figures that were better than expected.

I am outraged at the news this morning that water bills have to be increased by 50%. Share holders greed has caused this they should be forced to pay the cost of putting this right. If not they should be forced to hand it over to public ownership with a clause written in law that never again should vital services be removed from public ownership

There will not be a Uk only recession while the rsst of the world is growing strongly under labour government. She nevef said GDP has grown 0.4% in 5 days. There was plenty of strong growth under the previous labour government, the uK waa only in recession when the rest of the world was from 2008 to 2009, and from quarter 2 2009 to General election 2010 there was 5 quarters of strong growth again. The UK was not in recession when Cameron replaced Brown as PM, only those 5 quarters from quarter 1 2008 to quarter 1 2009 out of 52 quarters of the previous labour government. Prssuming a prolonged recession now under this new labour government would be ridiculous.

This is what we are facing over the next 5 yesrs, the right wing media looking to keep bringing the labour government down even if they clearly do a better job and are far less corrupt, and have far less scandals than the tory government since May 2010. None of them are whiter than white but only the right believe that this labour government will prove to be even more corrupt and will be embroiled in more scandals than even the 2010 to 2024 tory government, and the tory cheerleaders and gullible will just swallow everything they read, watch or hear from the right wing press. The UK economy growa and contracts, goes into recession and comes out of recessionx goes back into recession no matter which party is in government. 2 quarters of growth to end the tories 14 years of government, but there were 4 or 5 quarters of growth at the end of the previous labour government after the recession after the 2008 crash, And there were 47 out of 52 quarters where the UK economy was growing but only 5 quarters of recession under the previous labour government, but there have been a lot more than 5 quarters in recession under the tory government of the last 14 years. 0.4% growth the last quarter, but there have been some big negative growth figures thrown in as welll the last 14 years. The 0.4% growth is not coming from an arlready strong position but a very weak position, and the vast majoruty of the people are not feeling as though there's strong growth right now, and it was only a rkch man's economy under the tories because the tories only ever govern for the rich.

@@seamuspadraigsanders431 Debt to GDP ratio that labour have now inheritsd is far worse now than what the tories inherited 14 years and 2 months ago. In 2008 it waa a global recession which was completely unavoidable. The UK was certainly fsr from alone when it came to debt to GDP ratio soaring. The UK was certsinly fsr from the last country in the world to come out of recession, but the tories in May 2010 did not inherit an ongoing recession from labour. All recessions, that happened under the toris sjnce May 2010 havs been while under tory economic measures. In fact Cameron's extreme austerity measures imposed once he became PM actually sparked a recession, and the UK lost the AAA credit rating late Cameron, not Brown.

It was the unavoidable global recession with the UK joining it that caused the UK also going into recession , certainly weren't letting the debt to GDP ratio rise above the recommened 3% maximum outwith the global recession then hiding behind the global recession once it hit the UK. Labour government certainiy weren't hiding behind the recession, they were trying to tackle it to get the UK out of recession ASAP when it hit, and we were out of recession Q2 2009. Debt to GDP ratio rises at a faster rate than normal during a recession. Imposing extreme austerity during a recession would have prolonged the recession.

Let's not forget how Labour sat on the fence with Brexit saying NOTHING and still saying NOTHING about ir yet the biggest impact to growth in the UK as a result of making it harder for trading with Europe impacting many businesses. In the next year, can't wait to see - the junior doctors 35% pay rise request resolved, 40000 more appointments per week in NHS reducing waiting times and 6000 more police officers, how they get Immigration under control - only to mention a few of the Labour manifesto promises..
