Total respect for the work-ethic of the guys at Pon Steyn. Their attention to detail is just... perfection. I mean, for example, anywhere else in the world, you'd just get the choice of whatever was in the catalogue for the "Defender" badging. At Pon Steyn, they understand that all Bear's bar-work and fittings are matt-black and the badging needs to match... so they paint it! If they put that much effort into a bonnet-badge, you can be pretty sure the important stuff is going to be perfect too.

Greetings from Australia. Your decision to repair, modify and repaint was best. The classic Landies will always be loved. All over the world there is a band of people that are willing to put their Hart and soul into helping. I can't believe the craftsmenship that these two companies have with their workers. Especially evident when people from different ethnic backgrounds are working in harmony. I can't wait to see the finished product. Cheers.

16:54 "What is DTM". (Direct to Metal). Many anticorrosive paintes are used as primer. Or, you need to apply any Anticorrosive primer on metal/steel prior to apply any finish color. But DTM, it is self Anticorrosive finish paint which will not affect by outsource exposures like UV, salt, contaminated or polluted liquids on roads. Good choice, but DTM should have been applied on blast cleaning surfaces. Otherwise, it will be detached from the substrate soon.

Pon Steyn is really famous in the Land Rover scene in Africa. We weren’t sure they would accept our project because they are so busy. And we are extremely grateful for that.

10:20 I don´t know why no-one uses the wholes from factory that are already in the PV panels? I used 40mm round steelplates with M8x20 bold inside those. THOSE are glued on my roof, just these 5 (per panel) 40mm plates with PU glue on my roof, the panels are than screwed. My rood is curved from the windshield to a more or less flat roof. (which is why I used flex panel in the first place!). holding up since 2018. The fastest I drove with this is a 120km/h (GPS, 20 more than allowed).

I know this is a boring observation, but how do you maintain registration on your Land Rover? One assumes the French registration requires an annual roadworthy or MOT type certification. Additionally, you are altering the vehicle's body shape and make-up, which, as far as I can tell, would require changes to the registration details of the vehicle. As I said, boring stuff, but I'm mighty curious about the legalities 😊.

From an Australian point of view the modifications to body would have been almost impossible with Design rules etc. To even change a seat in Australia you almost have to crash test the vehicle first for approval. The developed world has gone mad. I often wonder if Land Rover are regretting the decision to stop manufacturing the " Real Defenders".

@@GrizzlyNbearOverland Thank you. I used to take my old Range Rover to Roverland in Montagu Gardens. That was before you were born or very close to that time. I'm now 30 years in Namibia and only go to the 'hellhole' (RSA) when it is necessary. Safe journey back to your home country.

What a spectacular job! I'm going to have to save some money for when I need to do it in my defender. You must have spent a lot of money on this renovation, right?

So many people ask us that and we don't know haha It was laying on the shelf at the workshop we prepared the Defender in France 6 years ago and we just stuck it on, sorry about that.

Great work and a well thought out conversion. I take it that these modifications will finally void the European homologation of the vehicle. Is it legal to continue using the French plates?

Legal to keep French plates. Returning to France is another story but we are not planning to for now.

Yes we did. Super strong industrial velcro but also able to be completely removed and no drilling required. There are lots of videos on KZread of people doing this these days.

They don't make new Defenders of this model and certainly not new cars with custom flat beds so we would have bought a new car and then still had to do this modification.
