Almost half of all pregnancies are unplanned…a lot of those babies are born into really crappy circumstances- narcissistic parents, financial distress, selfish parents who have like 15 kids and the older ones inevitably become caretakers, etc. When a woman plans ahead, she has the benefit of forethought and will probably be better positioned to bring that baby into the world. One of my friends in law school was brought up by a single mother by choice. She grew up to be such a well-rounded, damn near perfect human- super social, top of the class, healthy lifestyle. It’s anecdotal evidence, but it demonstrates how the traditional nuclear family isn’t the only family structure that works.

I, too, am a Single mom by choice. I delivered my first biological child at 36, this pass October. I've also adopted 3 children from foster care as a single mom. I was an only child and knew I wanted a big family. I decided at a young age that I would not settle for the sake of starting a family.

For those of you wondering why it seems like these black women are choosing to have mixed children, it’s because most donors aren’t black or poc. And the small selection of black and poc donors doesn’t necessarily equate to a match… the doctor runs tests to determine which donor is a match after the initial selection by the mother. I know a lot of lgbt couples that face producing children that don’t look like them or their partners.

I'm a black woman so I can have an opinion about this. I've found that many black people although they may have self love find being black in America very difficult. So I think they don't want to give their kids the same experience. Black men in media overwhelming marry interracial as well. It's an unconventional opinion but I think this is what everyone might be thinking

I personally love parenting as a single parent. I am more present. I have a calm, peaceful home.

@@judeayo1806 That's not true. I believe she was saying the same thing I feel about my own parenting, which is that I personally do much better as a single parent. I am not "good" at romamtic relationships and when I am in them, I cannot find the calm that I need to provide a loving, safe, happy home. I also have so much already taking away from my one-on-one parenting time (full-time job, errands, appointnents, life) that I personally don't want another person who needs me. We have to stop thinking that one way of life is better and understand that one person's way doesn't have to be a comment on anyone else's way. We're all just getting through this world the best we can, and as long as the priority in the home is putting the children first and making sure their needs are fulfilled, the makeup of the family is irrelevant.

hi wendy! how brave you are to read comments (i wouldn't) i created "fertility for real" to help women learn to get pregnant. i did, over 40 and single. my twins are 6 now. it was a 5 year, 4 country, 3 miscarriage (or more) journey to unite with these two souls. i am writing a memoir with the same hope - to inspire others - to live their purpose. loads of folks won't understand, that's fine, others will be inspired, even saved from great inner turmoil, because they will come to know they can create a life of love following their inner knowing. hugs to you and your little!

This is an inspiring story because I know so many women who stay in abusive and toxic relationships just so they can be a mom. I am glad these women didn't compromise their values. Sending all single mothers and daughters love and blessings.

Lol y’all acting as if Having a baby with a man guarantees successful parenting! It’s been known to be stressful, complicated, and end in horrible co parenting!! Times are different! Many women take care of women alone while women n relationships! Allow people to choose their lives!!

I’ve been strongly considering this route as an option for at least about 4 years now. Currently I am in a relationship, but knowing that this is an option if things don’t go as planned, makes me feel lucky to be part of this era.

Becoming a single mom through trauma, stress and not by choice is not the same as becoming a single parent by choice. Also male influences can come from many different sources.

No toxins No domestic abuse No divorces No bitter custody battles No “baby daddy” drama 🙅🏾‍♀️ A woman who is a well-educated, well-compensated, gainfully employed and can provide a nice home in a safe community is something most men cannot even do themselves. Why exactly should women skip out on their dreams when they have THAT MUCH to offer? What is so necessary about a man when you live in these conditions? Most of these guys don’t even have enough to provide and men (generally) are not nearly as involved as mothers are so what does it matter that she’s single? Her child’s needs are still being met. If you have the heart, energy, resources, and lifestyle for it, this choice for parenthood will work out fine. Women started doing this a long time ago and there’s nothing anyone can point to that would support any claim that their kids had poor outcomes.

I honestly can imagine the same for myself in the future. I would love to have children but cannot see myself married. I think it has a lot to do with how you grow up because for me, although my mom is not a single mother, having her husband/my dad by her side oftentimes felt more like an additional burden than a support system. Sadly, many men are simply unable to be good husbands/partners. It’s the same for most of my friends; they may have a dad but they don’t do any housework and have no connection to their children. It’s sad watching those street interviews where dads are being asked the most basic questions about their kids, e.g. eye color or best friend and they don’t know.. my parents both work and yet my mother does all the housework and childcare herself while my dad watches TV or naps. It always made me feel sad for her and definitely shaped my view of marriage. Unless I find the perfect partner who can actually support me in ways most men don’t do these days, I‘ll happily accept my life as a single mother without having another man-child to take care of.

Then that puts an additional burden on you to teach your sons to cook and other chores around the house. They will grow up one day to hopefully be husbands and fathers. That male influence is SO important for both sons and daughters. I hope you have brothers or a grandfather or close male friends who can step in at times for them. As a grandmother I’ve seen it all: good parents, neglectful ones, single moms, 2 moms. Some do a GREAT JOB and some raise children who grow up to repeat the same patterns.

I love this, we stress so much about finding a husband and sometimes even settle just to have kids "the right way" I'm so glad we have options now. So we can take our time with love.

I am at a loss for words. Again to each their own, but my belief system, my faith tells me to have a family in the confines of marriage. Children tend to do well in 2 parent households. The CBS producer, was career driven, and that's a beautiful thing, but let's be real here most women are not in the position to pay for IVF and raise a child on their own.

This is just beautiful and a wonderful perspective to look at why some women choose to go this route. I have recently been thinking the same. I’m just 30 but I think this is the way for me because I hate conflicts and have always tried to avoid having conflicts with people as much as possible by either just remaining completely silent or just taking my self from around those types of individuals. Recently, I had an encounter with a horrible, horrible, despicable, narcissistic, manipulative and cruel guy and just because of how this person was, it has made me started thinking this way and it was just the other day that I was discussing this with my aunt because if I had a child with that individual, chances are the conflict and hatred would have gotten even worse out of hand. If I don’t find someone before age 35, this is definitely gonna be my back up because I love children.

Are you going to miss out on something you truly want because your "true love" never crossed your path? I never wanted children, but if I did, I would totally have chosen this path!!!! Some fathers die before their kid is born. Fathers are great to have if they are fit for the job and live long enough to do it, but life never followed ideals. Instead of worrying about other people's reproduction journeys, just focus on making sure YOU become the father you want your kids to have.

This is impactful and empowering! I love to see when women go against societal norms and pave their own way, not compromising on values just to have a man. Great, let's just bring more dysfunction into the next generation. Children who grow up without fathers statically do poorer in life. Yes, there are plenty of exceptions but I go by statistics. If you don't believe me, look it up. Many inmates come from single mothers. You're going to birth and raise children with abandonment issues and so forth.

Reproducing is the only reason we're all here. Marriage is a social construct created by man. As a woman your body tells you every month for a set number of years that you are here to reproduce, regardless of what society says. Marriage is a worthy ideal, but not being married should not be a barrier to fulfiling what your body is designed to do.

I'm all for women having the choice to do whatever they want with their lives and bodies. She looks happy with her decision and thats all that matters.

I happy for Wendy McNeal. You are a smart woman. I like how you went after what you wanted to do without having to settle for the wrong man to achieve it. Women cannot afford losing ourselves toward instability in unpredictable relationships. Kudos to you.

An interesting way to build a family. I had both single parenting and parenting with a spouse. Even though it was HARD to single parent I prefer it. Less fights/ stress over certain things, my everyday decisions where better/easier. If I had a network like these women have or knew about it the time. It may have not been that hard. I don't look down on either way of raising kids, there are benefits and negatives to both.

There are. You get to see the race of each donor. White people are probably picked the most by the women so they're probably the majority if statistics show minorities being rarely picked. I saw a similar mini story in China as well and they used a White donor.

I feel you men.exactly my point I want to have that so called family but I don’t have a man. So I think it’s a wise decisions id rather be a single parent than be single and childless. And no offense I would like to adopt but I would want my own. Adoption is the last option.

I never wanted to be a single mom. Everyone is different but I think a child should be brought up by two parents. If it would’ve worked out with my daughter’s father I would’ve married him. If I could do it all over again I would’ve waited to be married before having children or just not have had any at all if I wasn’t married

The CBS producer has more than likely a good salary ans nest egg, but finances are not the only factor in child rearing. Parenting is definitely not a 1 person job. Nick Cannon is financially stable, but there is no way he can be there emotionally and spiritually for the 15 million children he has.

Now I tell you what there is no romance without finance. That means in this instance it is not romantic notion of single parenthood. There is struggle in the choice. I hope people realise that these single mothers by choice are a part of a village. So their child or children may only have a mom at home but they also have other family members and friends of the mom who are providing support and that is important. My siblings and I went from a nuclear family to a single mom family after our father died. As painful as that was, we had aunts and uncles family friends of our mother male and female who provided guidance so we grew up whole. Why? We were raised by a village not just by our mom. Children need the mother figure and father figure and it doesn't have to be biological all it takes is responsible caring adults who are part of a community who wants to see the next generation flourish. And as for my family we had our faith and the church community played an important role in raising us too. I am so grateful for the childhood I had and I will pray for these families that they too will be blessed.

I had "uncles" who let my sis and I know that we are special and any man who does not treat us with respect isn't worthy of us. They taught my brother to be a good man. I'm not saying children don't need fathers but I am saying that a father doesn't always have to be the biological person. I have my biological mom still today and she is my best friend but I have mother figures too who have been and are still there for me. And I still have the relationship with my father figures too. My father died and God blessed my siblings and I with father figures who helped us heal, and continue to grow as individuals that are now the mature adults today. Yes children need fathers but a father doesn't always have to be biological.

My husband passed away and we had decided to get pregnant again but chose to wait until our current baby turned one. My husband passed away just 2 days after his first birthday. I am now a single mom unexpectedly and almost a year after his passing have decided that I want to be a single mother by choice and have more children via a donor. I am so very grateful for donors!

This isn't new...! Women have been doing this for more than a Century. Society places too much pressure on Marriage, Having children and being in Relationships. Most men aren't seeking committed arrangements until they get " OLDER. It's very Expensive to marry, have children, and to live in 2022. I say delay Pregnancies until your in the decade of financial independence. Do you own a car, have an extensive credit 💳 line, and savings.? Think with your head, not your heart.

I do think you're better off if you can prepare yourself to raise a child on your own. 'Cause in my situation i was dating someone and i got pregnant so i told him that i was pregnant and blocked my phonenumber. That was so painful. I don't ever want to experience that ever again. I want more kids and i will do it like this from now on.

I thought I was the only one. 😂 if I wasn’t married by x then I was having a child. Baby there is power in the tongue because boop I was pregnant at that age and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! I am woman and this woman wanted to be a mother. 🥰

Very interesting story considering that just this morning out of the blue, i became immensely grateful that i got pregnant with my daughter 30 yrs ago as a teen single mom. It was challenging but having my child changed the trajectory of my life in insurmountable ways. She is the reason that i did a 180 degree turn around with all aspects of my now thriving life. Children have a special way of making you a better version of yourself when you take your role of motherhood seriously. Never found the right guy but unlike many of my single friends who don’t have children, i felt blessed to at least have one child who has birthed two adorable grandchildren that I adore immensely for they are a continuation of my legacy and i get to do for them what I wish I could’ve done for my child. Yes if i had to choose between being a mom and finding the love of my life, i’d definitely choose being a mom hands down without any hesitation or doubt. Women are living in a great time where they can plan their pregnancy with or without factoring in the perfect mate to help them to procreate. Of course the idea situation is to find the right guy to build a family with, but the way the dating world works these days, my God ladies please dont hold your breath and/or get caught up in struggle love or a toxic relationship just to have a child. That’s way more trouble than its worth. This was a real smart move on this lady’s part to take her fertility in her own hands instead of waiting on that proverbial “good man” who may or may not come along. Big up to women controlling their fertility destiny instead of leaving in the hands of meeting that illusive “perfect man”

It would be advisable to maintain some sort of contact just incase of health issues that might occur in the future. There are lots of guys out there that will do that. They must have up to date Sti test results though.

Why not? The man will eventually leave her doing it all herself anyway. Why not just choose it from the gate and save the headache.

I don't believe adults have to be married in order to be good parents no more than I believe a unit with both adult equals quality of parents. Often the kindest thing we can do for our children is not to be marred in a bad marriage that will bring out the ugliest of people and then cheaply lie we stay in such a marriage for the children's sake.

I have mixed feelings about this . I’m HAPPY that women are choosing their own paths.However, women was and STILL is looked down upon for being a single mother/ single and not married. A lot of women didn’t pay for sperm to have their children but they chose to raise them often times without a father. Are we now going to start respecting ALL of the women that came before these woman that chose to raise their children? All I’m saying is we as a people need to pick a side. Knowing these ladies, they probably did this while having stable incomes. Single mothers with low incomes who can't afford to take care of their children and are really young tend to be looked down on. When the mother is older, mature and is secure with her bank, I don't see them get bad treatment.

It doesn’t matter how old they are I personally know women in their mid 20’s early 30’s that make 6-7 figures. I also know women in their 40’s and 50’s that are low income broke women. I wish people STOP pushing their own insecurities off on other people. Not all young mothers are doing bad in life and not all older women are doing well in life. If a woman chooses to become a mother at whatever age she chooses and she can afford to take care of her children then it’s no one’s business. By the way let’s pat ALL real mothers on their backs for bringing life into this world and being responsible.

I see it as the opposite. A lot of people are angry about this but aren’t having the same kind of energy for women living in poverty that get knocked up by drug dealers, having an unplanned pregnancy and becoming a single mom that way. I totally agree though, the stigma should be removed and single moms deserve the upmost respect. Single dads too

The best option for black women. This or marrying out side our race to have a child is the best outcome for black women. Don't have deal with absent black fathers and child support is stressful for black women.

Very possible the donor was listed as black but are ( biracial or Latino)! Mom may have mixed parent(s). Genetics is surprising! Can't assume just because baby has brighter features.

Congratulations! Happy Mother's Day!

I wish mom and baby a happy life. I think it’s wonderful that we live in a society where we can make a variety of choices. What concerns me is that the babies going to grow up and will be curious about the father. Perhaps the child might want to connect with their donor one day. What if that happened? I firmly believe that everyone has the right to pursue happiness in whatever way to keep it. I also totally understand why many women wouldn’t want to wait for a man to start their family or prefer to be single but still want to be parents. I’m a single woman and I definitely want children one day. I don’t have an ideal number of children but I know I want them. However, I want my kids to have a mom and a dad. The influence of a father is as important to children as the importance of a mother. I think the children should be treated as blessings and not commodities. I personally don’t feel like I have a right to have children but they are supposed to be gifts from God or the universe, and should be treated as such. Congrats to the mom in this video. I wish you a happy life and great success with raising your baby.

I feel this so deeply. I got pregnant with my son when I was in a relationship, I was engaged and living with my (then fiance). About half way through the pregnancy ( planned) my ex bailed on the relationship AND being a dad. He 'wasn't sure if he wanted to be involved ' were his exact words. So I've been on my own ever since. My son is going to know the truth when he is old enough. I have also recently decided, after much thought, to start trying for baby number two via sperm donor. I am one of 7 children so I really know the value of having a sibling so I want my son to have at least 1 sibling

I had my beautiful daughter at 39. I found men approached me more with the stroller then when I was childless.

Fathers are so important. Of course, not all women find a man who they want to have a family with or the ones they find don't want to or would suck as a dad. In society, too many times, fathers do terrible things to their children. I still say that a good father can make a huge difference in a child's life. If the father isn't in the child's life, having a strong male influence can help shape the child's view of the men in the world as a positive influence. My father was a horrible, abusive, raging alcoholic. I'm grateful that I had a grandfather who was wise, kind, intelligent. He loved my grandmother fiercely, he also loved me the same way. He died more than a decade ago. His influence lives on.

@She Knows Not having a child isn't a regret! I've NEVER heard of a single person (*man or woman*) "regretful" for NOT having a kid(s)! Plus, having a kid(s) for the SOLE SIMPLE PURPOSE of NOT regretting it later ISN'T a reason or justification to have a child! That's NOT fair to the kid(s). That child NEVER asked nor chose to be here in the first place! If this were a case of "regret", why not adopt?!?!???? Why does the kid(s) have to be biological???

And the solution is produce half-white children that won't identify as black while also making a statement to black men that you consider them disposable and irrelevant? This type of thing is a wet dream for white supremacists. A minority group intentionally wiping themselves out. There has to be a better way than this.

A few years ago there was a guy who asked me to choose between getting too much money with no marriage and little money with marriage, I answered him money is better than marriage 💍 😂 even though I had the problem of how should I get a baby 👶, but after finding out about IUI and IVF, I just confirmed 100% that I want too much money 💵 than a 💍 ❤️❤️💕💕 because since I was born I never saw anything good about men in terms of love, relationships or 💍 so I'm always afraid that I will end up the same 😢 so I want to become SMC ❤️
