I love this Spiritual Man of God, I've been following his ministry since the age of 20 when he started a church in Orlando Florida. He has never changed from his word. God made it to where I ran into him tonight coming out of a grocery store, actually right after he did this broadcast in my city! His ministry has helped me through some trying times and even during covid-19 He's lead by the Spirit and He actually gave me a hug! Even though we are both Covid-19 free and both had on mask it was amazing... That shows He really trusts God and his led by the spirit when He does things. I'll never forget that.. Now Jacob, seeing his older brother’s weakness, demands that Esau should ִמ ְׁכ ָרה ַכיוֹם ֶאת־ ְׁב ֹּכ ָר ְׁתךָ ִלי (mikhra kha-yom et bekhoratkha li) “sell me your firstborn rights this very day.” As the story continues we will see that Jacob’s consecutive actions (when he fools Isaac into thinking that he is Esau) will not be honoured by Abraham’s God. There will be a series of severe setbacks to Jacob’s life (Laban’s dealings with him) which will look remarkably similar to and as dishonest as Jacob’s dealings with Esau. Jacob will ultimately be blessed, but certainly not with the blessings he believed he could steal from his brother. Isaac and God had a much greater blessing in store for him - one prepared for him that did not need to be stolen. But Jacob did not know that at the moment. Despising Birth-right The Hebrew root word connected to the idea of the “birth-right” and “being firstborn” is ָבָכר (bakhar). It basically refers to the idea of “being first.” While Esau is portrayed as a hard-working man, he is also clearly shown as someone who did not distinguish the spiritual significance of being the “firstborn” ְׁב ֹּכָרה (bekhorah), from the right of being blessed with a mighty “blessing” ְׁב ָר ָכה (berakhah) that would come later. To the seemingly unreasonable request of his younger brother, “First sell me your birth-right,” Esau responds: ָאֹּנִכי הוֵֹלךְ ָלמוּת ְׁו ָל ָמה־ ֶזה ִלי ְׁב ֹּכָרה (anokhi holekh lamut ve-lama zeh li bekhorah) “I am at the point of death, so of what use is my birth-right to me?” True, Esau was tired and hungry. Still, one who has a high esteem for his status as the firstborn will not give up this high status for simple food. The story is clear: when Jacob finally served Esau ֶלֶחם וְּׁנִז יד ֲע ָד ִשים (lechem u-nezid adashim) “bread and lentil stew” Esau simply ate and went away. In so doing, the text of Genesis 25:34b says, זֶבִיַו ֵע ָשו ֶאת־ ַה ְׁב ֹּכָרה (va-yivez Esav et ha-bekhorah) “so Esau spurned the birth-right.” The verb ָבָזה (bazah) has a connotation of “being careless” or “having contempt” - despising something as useless. - excerpts taken from Eli Lizorkin-Eyzenberg, Ph.D.
