I did not have the Barca gene but I elected to have both taken off. When the surgeon got in there, cells were already beginning to form that would have eventually become cancer, so my surgeon said “ GOOD CALL” on my part. Lynne

I have a strong family history of BC, my grandmother, mother and all three of us sisters, but I am BRCA negative. My daughter is on early surveillance mammograms and had her first one this month at 40. Thank goodness it was clear but it’s a worry for me. I’ve had 5 operations in all relating to my BC, including two mastectomies, so hopefully that’s the end of treatment for me. Wishing you well on your BC journey. 🤗🤗

I'm in the US, not sure how its done there, but Ihad elective double mastectomy w/ reconstructive surgery and hysterectomy due to BRACA variant and I have not looked back. No one suspects anything. Make decisions best suited for you and yours.

Interestingly, we asked the same question to our consultant. I wanted a. MRI due to less risk, but he said that our MDT doesn’t have the experience with MRIs and therefore he went with what he is comfortable with. In the US, the medical teams are comfortable with MRIs and can read them, but in the UK, we’re apparently not there experience wise yet. X
