Anne Rice's vampire novels are, in my opinion, leaps and bounds ahead of almost all of the vampire-based pop culture seen around today. Her sheer ability to create the characters alone is something that deserves unrivaled praise. And not just Lestat, but characters like Pandora and Marius de Romanus, who are not necessarily main characters, but are still deeper and more emotionally capable than most PEOPLE that I know. Anne, I've loved your books since I was a little girl. You are my hero.

I think it's a bit generous to say that Stephanie Meyer's Twilight was original concept, I read several books with the same formula, up to five years before Twilight was even published, I believe the popularity of her novel doesn't stem from a creative concept rather that it comes from her ability to take that concept and make it digestible to the masses.

Yeah, I used to be obsessed with the Twilight series. But Anne Rice is good! Stephenie Meyer said with each book that she based her novels on those old love stories. The fact that Anne Rice hasn't read the books, nor listened to what Stephenie Meyer said, and yet still came to that conclusion is pretty amazing. That means she knows her stuff! And I like that.

I'm a writer whose read both Rice and Meyer (all vampire books). Anne Rice's writing is sooo much better. I know a lot of people criticize Meyer's skills as an author-- whether or not she makes up for it in cleverness or other ways I'm not sure--but overall Meyer's vampire books don't hold a candle to A.R.

@Calucifer13 but I do love Twilight, but also I do love Anne Rice, infact I love Anne Rice's books more then Twilight's but I read Twilight first. I found Anne Rice after I read all the Twilight books. I watched Interview with the Vampire and I wanted her books so bad, I fell inlove the moment I started reading.

@Calucifer13 well when I said that I guess I was just happy she wasn't bashing like everyone else in the world does. But yeah, it is alittle absurd for vampires to Highschool but if ya think of the concept it's rather funny because you go over and over again, it will eventually make you the smartest kid in you class and if you aren't a little weird like the Cullen you would be looked up to. I bet she was really being polite as you said. But ya now that I think about your right. I was just excit

Stephenie Meyer and Charlaine Harris-no one ever mentions Laurell K. Hamilton. Do you think that's because they don't consider her as influential as she has been?

@EdwardandCedric1 I don´t think she is that much into it, she once said that spending an eternity at high school is an absurd thing. I think that hehe, in this video, she actually tried to be POLITE. As she always is.

when I first watched the twilight movie, it felt a lot like Roswell the TV series, it's about supernatural highschool romance, it's not really a original concept....

@id7701 Vampires do NOT have a set sexuality. No label is needed.

The twilight series ripped off ALOT of moments from Buffy, its sad. Laurel K Hamilton should be said in the same breath as Anne and Charlaine, but as mentioned, never is.
