MORE GRAVES DISCOVERED! Cleaning Vandalized Slave Cemetery | Mahone Ingram Cemetery

Ойын-сауық

Continuing our dedicated efforts from the previous episode, this video on Adventures into History showcases the ongoing cleanup and repair efforts at the Mahone-Ingram Cemetery following the recent act of vandalism. Our commitment to restoring this historic site is stronger than ever, as we delve deeper into the necessary work to bring peace back to this sacred ground.
This episode captures the hard work, resilience, and community spirit that define our mission. As we clear away debris, right overturned headstones, and begin the healing process for the land and its legacy, we're reminded of the importance of preserving such sites for future generations. The Mahone-Ingram Cemetery, with its deep historical roots as a burial ground for enslaved individuals and their descendants, represents a crucial part of our shared heritage that must be honored and protected.
We also discuss the steps we're taking to prevent future vandalism, including enhanced security measures and community engagement strategies. The support and involvement of our viewers and local communities play a vital role in safeguarding this and other historical sites from further harm.
Join us in this meaningful journey as we work to repair the damage and ensure that the dignity and significance of the Mahone-Ingram Cemetery are fully restored. This video is not just about the physical labor of cleanup; it's a testament to the spirit of preservation, respect for our ancestors, and the collective responsibility we hold to honor our history.

Great job. Was that Creshaw or Creshan? My poor old eyes...Also, is there a way to find out which African culture the tradition of 'leaving your grief at the grave' comes from? I'm assuming it's one of the West African cultures but I couldn't find it via Google. Thanks!

Robert you are truly an amazing young man. I have been watching your videos for awhile now. My family came to Georgia with Oglethorpe and moved on to TN to avoid the Trail of Tears. My question is, are there no cemetery revival groups there to help you in your efforts to save these cemeteries. I live in MI and we have groups within each county that trim the undergrowth and restore broken headstones and do basic upkeep. They document every grave best they can. While you are an admirable man, you need help.

@@l.m.2404 You might have abandoned graves in your own backyard, so to speak, that has been lost out in the woods. I live in northeast Georgia and Robert has me watching out for cemeteries in the woods especially during winter when most of the brush has died back and leaves carpet the ground to inhibit growth of briar and other brush. I'm pretty sure every state in the Union has forgotten cemeteries. I use old topo maps to find marked cemeteries and go and try to find them if I can't find references to them on FindAGrave. I'm off to go gravestone hunting in a local cemetery to get photos of headstones for FindAGrave, found about 50 so far not captured.

I have been visiting cemeteries for over 50 years around Southern West Virginia and have found some similarly vandalized. Now I am not able to physically restore the destruction. Our family cemetary is about all I can keep up now. About 4 years ago I managed to convince several relatives to join me in cleaning off the overgrowth, filling in sunken graves, resetting headstones and repairing fences. Now I am working with my older sister and lots of D2 to clean the stones. I am 72 and she is 76. Please keep u you wonderful work.

What a kind and respectful person you are. Surely a sad time for the vandals to disrespect these graves. Your dog Blue is so faithful to you. Some humans could learn from Blue. God Bless. 🙏

You need to contact your local news stations. Get the word out. Those who purchase lumber need to be informed, as well. This is desecration of a graveyard, for goodness sake!

Loved this video. It makes me so mad someone would have so much disrespect in the name a a few dollars. Thank you for doing all you're doing. It's VERY interesting and needs to be remembered

Glad you trying to take care of that old cemetery,I found an old cemetery far out in a national forest wilderness area in VA.one day while I was squirrel hunting. I did a little investigation into it ,at first I thought it was a old Indian burial ground.but after asking around with some folks much older than me,I learned it was the burying ground for slaves ,years ago.i have never shown the site to anyone except my youngest son .it's near a fire trail ,and I figured if folks knew about it they be digging and pilfering around in these folks final resting place.its a beautiful stand of hickory in a mountain ,with a small creek nearby.and it's a excellent place to get a mess of squirrels for supper .
