More Accusump issues...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We find that the Canton Racing Accusump electric pressure switch is unreliable and others across the Atlantic are having oil leak issues as well. By-passing the switch by wiring the valve directly to power is a quick fix until a more dependable solution can be found for the Accusump.

I've sat on doing my install for a while because I just wasn't convinced of the benefits of the additional electronics, valve, joins etc over a manual lever that i just use at the track. This has made my mind up. simple install it is then.

Solenoids have some wicked high voltage spikes on release. They will destroy contacts quickly. If the solenoid or switch isn't suppressed already, maybe that's what happened. Add a "fly back or snubber" diode across the switch leads to fix it. The switch will last much much longer.

Just finally mounted mine in the 68 charger.....I went with cantons electornic swich on/off type not based on pressure drops per say....correct if im wrong with this setup its gonna be setup based on pressure differences between accump and engine pressure oil correct? If one is lower than the other they try to balance each other based on how much air charge I have in my accusmp? I plan to put 50psi in the accusmp and when I hit the switch to on if my engine oil drops below 50psi the accusmp then pushes oil into engine until it can reach over 50psi correct in the engine?

Yeah I think that's how it works. When the oil pressure drops in your engine the accusump should sense it immediately as oil as a fluid is not compressable & should be forced into the engine via air pressure in the accusump

I'm going to be installing an accusump soon and I'm unsure which valve to go with. I do like the simplicity of a ball valve however the electronic valve can store oil at a higher pressure. I know a simpler system will always be more reliable but has anything since then changed your opinion of how the electronic valve can be reliably installed where I don't have to worry about electronics failure on top of oil starvation?

Nope! On our 73 Challenger build it will be getting a manual valve as well! Less to worry about & much more affordable

I always activate my Accusump before start up so if the pressure switch dies I know. the pressure sensor is a nice system for cars like mine that drive 100+ miles to events. but I know that switch will eventually die. (the main valve uses 0.9 amps so it's not a huge power draw)

I agree the pressure switch is really nice to have. I always switched it on too before startup to pre-lube the engine, but being unreliable as it is sucks when it comes time to replace it. I'm going with a manual valve when I refreash the setup as the Accusump is leaking now. Going with a Moroso Accumulator in is place to try one out as I keep the Accusump as a spare.

The pressure switch has nothing to do with the overall system pressure. If the pressure relive is activeated then your overall oilpressure is more than 175psi. How could the switch add pressure to the oilpump pressure? Its just controlling oil relive at a citain pressure. So if it is not working anymore it will not open the solenoid, but it cannot add oilpressure. It is just controlling the oilrelease point/ time of the accusump. So if your engine oilpressure drops lower then the oilpressure switch point, then the switch will jump to "ON" and will control something that its wired onto. As somone stated here in the comments- the soleniod has boostspikes. I dont know how you wired it, but if you wired the pressure switch in series to the solenoid, then that might be the reason why it died. I would always wire a switch into the control- citcuit, not into the power- circuit.

Completely agree with you & the pressure switch was wired to an on/off switch. The overall system is still unreliable as stated as boost spikes or not the pressure switch should not just fail. Just wired the solenoid to the on/off switch which works just fine now. No more pressure switch

@@RylisPro yes, but i would wire it in series to a relay, so the toggle and pressure switch, dont have to deal with the amp spikes. I forgot to mention a relay in my last point. And also thank you for sharing your experiance.

@@RylisPro ok, but many people still tend to wire a switch into the power circuit and not to the control circuit of the relay where the current draw/ demand is low. Ive seen it lots of time. That would have been my 1st guess, if a switch got cooked

@@G.J.G.P. this particular pressure switch was working properly for at least a year of occasional use as I don't daily the `Cuda anymore & a couple of track days before giving out. Then it wasn't actuating at the time I filmed this video. So I am guesing the switch just went bad & that it just wasn't a reliable part.
