Happy 2022!
I ran a poll to get some ideas for what to vid this year and an Arthurian fancast vid got the most votes! I've wanted to do an Arthurian fancast for a long time, but I couldn't find a good cast or decide what storyline to go with. But I finally made a decision and I'm very happy with it! This video mostly focuses on Mordred and the things that influenced him, but I will definitely do more with this fancast in the future!
If you aren't familiar, there are lots of versions of the Arthurian legend. The original legend is Welsh. It can get a bit confusing. In some versions, Arthur has a few sons. In some versions he has additional lovers. Morgause and Morgan(a) are sometimes his half-sisters, in some versions only one of them exists. Sometimes he has a full-blooded sister. Gawain is pretty consistantly Morgause's son. Mordred is a little more complicated and wasn't originally Arthur's son, but his nephew (either by Morgause or Anna). But as the legend evolved, Mordred was mostly portrayed as the illegitimate son of Arthur and either Morgause or Morgan. Usually, it's portrayed as an unwitting incestuous affair. I wrote down my own version to make things less complicated. I combined versions of the myth and also added a little bit of my own ideas. I also decided to use the name Morgana instead of Morgan because I like it better, and BBC Merlin was the first time I really got into the Arthurian mythology. Sorry to anyone named Morgan lol.
story;
Once there was a king of England named Uther. He had no wife or heir. He fell in love with Igraine, who was married to Gorlois, and they had a daughter, Morgause. Uther and Igraine had an affair, which resulted in Arthur. For his own safety, Arthur was hidden away with the help of Merlin. A few years later, Igraine had another daughter with Gorlois named Morgana.
Years passed and Arthur grew up in anonymity, though he became known as a charmer and was very handsome. He caught the eye and the heart of the Lady Morgana, unaware of their relationship.
But then Gorlois died, and Uther took Igraine as his wife. It was time for Arthur to come home. So, Merlin created the sword in the stone, which only Uther's son would be able to pull out. Arthur, of course, pulled the sword from the stone. He adapted to his new life as a prince well. But he was shocked and upset to learn that Morgana was his half-sister because he was in love with her, and she with him. Unable to ignore their feelings, they began a secret affair. When Arthur became King, he married Guinevere, but they were unhappy, and Arthur turned back to Morgana while Guinevere turned to Lancelot.
Morgana became pregnant, but she was told that her son would one day kill his father. Horrified, she hid the truth from Arthur and bore the child in secret, naming him Mordred. She gave Mordred to her sister to raise, hoping to keep him away from Arthur and prevent his destiny.
But no one can escape destiny.
As various players, on different sides of the board, begin to learn of Mordred's identity and his destiny, they all try to influence him and use him to suit their purposes.
