Morbidi I Mnoći - Put (2022 Remaster)

Музыка

Remix of Put rendered with B&W video.
This is first video in remastered series of Morbidi I Mnoci music.
Original master tapes are lost, so all work was done on Mp3 file rendered probably from master tape. I have used Studio One 5 for post processing and added Spatial Sound, changed dynamics and EQ, did some compression and leveling. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do with Mp3 file, but I am happy with results, considering all hurdles.
This song was created during sessions in Branko Hendrix studio in Belgrade. Main idea was to progress harmonics in flamenco style G, F, Ab, C, C#, Bb and build around with guitar theme which I developed around some ideas that were based on influence of how John McGeoch would play around basic melody, and adding oriental progression scale. It simply clicked instantly. Words are by Debeli (Milorad Milinkovic) and bass progression is all Mario Separovic enormous talent. It simply kicks ass. Drums programming and production were done by Branko (don't ask me real surname, everybody was calling him Branko Hendrix) and boy, did he accomplish an amazing job. We owe him a lot. Of course, he was mainly guitar player, thus awesome guitar production.
I have took away colour from video, as if we ever had a chance to produce our own video, it would be probably done in some tower on Kalemegdan with us performing strange rituals rigorously in B&W. Just like Square Hammer video from Ghost (great fan BTW). Instead we have our only video done by Belgrade TV knockoff Pop Of The Tops transmission and we are dressed as Spandau Ballet. Still did not made peace with this... So I have removed colour and made all of us like like zombies. Sorry for all fans of yellow tint colour in original video...
Fun facts:
- Our drummer, Nebojsa Curcic wears a carton board with Yamacsa Ritam Masina as song was originally recorded with drum machine. Talking about playback...
- My favorite guitar harmonics part (3.25) always throwed off Debeli from the tune when we were performing live
- Last words that you hear at the end of the track is Debeli asking "How was it?" (Kako je ovo sad?) and it is question for studio audience if he performed well in take. We just left it in the track.
- Original video had track not synced, I have fixed this.
- Thumbnail for song is Babylon The Great from St. James Bible
And now credits:
"Put" performed by Morbidi i Mnoci
Recorded in Branko Hendrix studio in Belgrade in 1987
Studio crew:
Milorad Milinkovic Debeli - Vocals
Mario Separovic - Bass
Mario Surjan - Rhythm and Lead Guitar
Branko "Hendrix" Drum programming and production\mixing\final cut
Video crew:
Nebojsa Curcic - Drum playback
Two sisters of sin, which I do not recollect the names
Well, as a lot of people asked for it, here is link to my Google drive with guitar tabs for Put: drive.google.com/file/d/1-ASb...
Comment, ask questions and shitpost below, I will probably reply.

OK, here is the big announcement: I have managed to find the way to publish both Morbidi i Mnoci music, as my own through online publisher Tunecore. For the price of decent meal in restaurant, I got my account setup and test published two songs, Put and one of my new songs Singidunum to all streaming services available. They are live now, so if you use Spotify, Apple, iTunes. Amazon, Deezer, Pandora music, etc. you can find both in them. For any online music service that you have, just use Morbidi i Mnoci for artist search. For my new stuff, just use Mario Surjan as artist search. After this test drive, I will publish more under both accounts. This is actually awesome, because it is first published music for MiM ever (it only took 40 years) and there were so many fans requesting our music on Spotify or other streaming services that I just needed to do it.All songs will be properly credited with authors for copyright, in the same way as it is done on my KZread channel in descriptions of the songs. Any income made by these releases (🤣it will probably be zero, but you never know🤣) will be donated to charity, probably to one that it is supporting war orphans, considering history of country from where we are. Enjoy and spread the word! 🤘

It makes me so happy to see forgotten ex-yu artists getting so much love, and I really admire the effort you put into all of these remasters, Mario :) Put is one of my favourite goth songs ever. You just left me speechless here... Comments like yours are the reason why I did all of this, knowing that our music touched in special way someone out there. Hell is not such a bad place when you have company and I am glad that Put was there for you on your journey. I had my own journey through the valley of shadows this year in same place as you, Croatian seaside due to family matters. In those times of desperation, my only solace was Sal od svile, probably best song ever written on ours so beautiful and yet so sad and sometimes cruel homeland. And knowing how I wanted to thanks Darko Rundek for writing something that actually kept me from falling to pieces in my darkest hours, I just feel humbled and immensely grateful when somebody felt the same listening to my music. All the best on our journey and I wish that you always find the company on it, being that a song, a movie or a person that will make you feel less lonely.

Whenever i hear this song, i always think of dark castles on a hilltop at night overlooking a grim forest, with vampires, ghouls, banshees and other monsters dwelling within as it rains and thunders outside and into the valley It's actually kind of nuts to me that you guys only released one album and faded into obscurity, given how much variance and uniqueness there is to your band's sound! I suppose that happened a lot in 80's Yugoslavia, and i do think it adds a certain allure to it, but i wonder what we would had seen had there been a second studio album..

  • @MarioSurjan

Thanks for gothic picturing of song atmosphere, it is really appropriate and brings me great pleasure that it can evoke such imagery in listener. As for second part of comment, we actually never released anything , all our songs are demos and they have only recently (some 10 years ago or so) finished on KZread and finally found their audience. Put was actually only song that got TV Video and as entry on top ten list on local Belgrade radio for 5-6 weeks. This is why I have created this playlist that can have album feeling and some background for all the songs in it. We did not have much following outside of family and friends, as we used to joke during our active years. Honestly, I am very much enjoying this new found possibility to present our music to much wider audience on KZread and interact with fans, even after 35 years of our disbanding as group. You can also check some new stuff that I posted on my channel. It is different from MiM, as it is more cinematic music, but I am as proud of it as I am for the stuff that I did with MiM. Actually, interacting with newfound fans of our music prompted me to record some new stuff after so many years. Music was and will always be integral part of my life, but as I do not depend economically on making it, it gives me artistic freedom to put out just the stuff that pleases me and hopefully somebody else out there.

Thank you for appreciating the effort. And finally somebody is asking about origin of name. It was about the bloody time... Well, Debeli and me always took pride in our thirst for any morbose subject, thus Morbose (Morbidi) was obvious choice. But, morbose that we were, we wanted another word to go with Morbose and we could not decided between Might and Night (Moci i Noci). So we fused them together and we become Morbose and Mnight ( Morbidi i Mnoci). Funny thing is that it also works in English, so we were completely sold on name. Rest is history.

This song is so cool! Could you upload it on Spotify, too? I'd be glad. Greetings from Germany. :)

Hi, thanks for kind words. Unfortunately, as we never published any of our songs, it is impossible to get them on Spotify. This is one of the main reasons why I created our playlist on my channel, so that all interested can enjoy them, even if it is not on their preferred music platform.

Liked your songs so much, that spent weeks looking for a vinyl. But unsuccessful. Was it ever pressed or an album recorded?

Thanks, this is one of the best compliments that any musician can receive. We never had any release on any platform, all songs are demos done in different studios in different time periods. This is why I created this playlist with remastered songs which can serve as an album. It can actually be called "The best and only songs by MiM"😂

Nope, Spotify has rigid rules which are preventing our stuff to get published.

Album Psihodelicne Oci ne postoji, to je kompilacija nasih demo snimaka koje su razni kanali na You Tube stavili zajedno. Na mom kanalu imas sve pesme u remaster verziji dok sam ja bio u bendu.

If you have problems, I will make a short video on how to play. Song is really simple, riff starts at open E1 string then it just transposes to twelfth repeating same motiv in higher octave.
