Morag Paterson: A Creative Journey

Morag explains how her photographic career developed, from the first days of experimenting, through the ICM (intentional camera movement) revolution, back to traditional landscapes in the Zero Footprint project and onwards. She shares tips on ways of experimenting, encouraging playfulness and building confidence.
About Morag
A sense of belonging underpins Morag's photographic work, which varies from the wildly abstract to more literal representations of the natural world. For her, the art of photography is process-based, using the camera as a tool to express her engagement with any given location or subject.
Enjoying many camera-free hours roaming on the hillsides of the southern uplands in Scotland or the wooded slopes around her smallholding in the Alpes-Maritime helps build her mental scrapbook and incubate ideas.

It's wonderful to hear the backstory of how a photographer came to their particular style and visual voice. I'm enrolled in a workshop with Morag as one of the mentors (along with Kaisa Sirén and Stephanie Johnson), and this is a great add-on to my learning. I'm not done watching yet, but had to pause the video to comment that I love that Morag and her husband positioned the bird feeders so that the background would be pleasing for photography! Now that's really seeing the world with a photographic eye 🙂!!!

Lovely to learn some more about Leeming & Paterson from the lovely Morag Paterson who I am currently doing a mentorship with as part of ICM Photography Magazine :D - some super images! Another great webinar from Angela Nicholson & SheClicks (this one showed up when I was watching one of Charlotte Belamy's latest vids lol)

For those with dodgy eyesight, I found a few things to help me. I use Nikon and on the DSLRs I use the electronic rangefinder (green dot and arrows) and on the mirrorless, I use the magnification view. I couldn't get on with the peaking. I also use Olympus with the magnification view and it works really well because you can see what is coming in and out of focus to get it exactly how you want it for creative uses
