    The best motor for sweptlines in my book. They're great racing engines too and were used for that a lot in the past.

    I have had this combo in my 1960 Plymouth 9 passenger wagon for about 1.5 years now. It has 3.31 gears and 255/70R15 tires (29" OD) and it runs great down the road. I can drive it like a diesel truck, keep my RPMs low. I run 1500 RPM at 50 mph, or 1800 RPM at 60 mph. Averaging 15 mpg all around right now on 87 octane.

    Both of those would have the LA engine. The Poly's head was more akin to a hemi head. The LA series had "wedge" heads. The LA was choked down with a very low lift cam (.390" lift) and most were equipped with 2 bbl carbs. A very few with the "Denver package" had the Thermoquad 4 bbl.

    I am woefully late to viewing this video. I recently purchased a 1966 Dodge C500 2-ton farm truck. It is all original with 53k mi., It has a 318 in it with a factory sticker on the valve cover that says “Premium 318 202hp” I had to chuckle at Dodge for displaying the “202hp”, like it was something earth shattering. Anyway, runs like a top, doesn’t quite sound like yours though. Curious if you put an electronic ignition in this, and if you put hardened valve seats in...? Also, I could not quite tell what your oil pressure gauge was reading, looked like maybe 55-60lbs...? Thank you.

    The big trucks would have come with a 318-3, or a commercial grade engine. Lower compression, but higher quality and tighter tolerance parts. Good engine. I do have electronic ignition in this engine, a pertronix conversion. Oil pressure when cold at high idle is between 75 and 80 psi.

    The intake is a vintage factory piece, Chrysler stopped offering the 4 barrel on a 318 poly after 1962 (I think, may have been even earlier). They are getting hard to find and quite valuable.

    Offenhauser did make a single plane aluminum intake for the 318 poly, I had a intake like the one in the video, sadly I scraped it about 15 yrs ago. A buddy scored a offenhauser off a 66 power wagon for me, still have the intake, don't have a 318 poly anymore.

  • @BigJonsAntiqueMotors

    @BigJonsAntiqueMotors

    2 жыл бұрын

    Since my Poly is a 1962, the 5 speed bolted right up to the block and the flywheel to the crank. No adapters required. The Jeep crowd is running this 5 speed behind 318s for off road rigs without issues, so the 5 speed was just a stock rebuild.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS )
