An acquaintance on mine is 6’9, flew right seat with me to Wichita KS with his seat slid all the way to the rear, he still had an inch or two head room and was unable to reach the rudder pedals. This was in my M20J.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the look of a Mooney. And Brother, yours is VERY NICE. Thank you for the opportunity to see ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL MOONEY.

Short body Mooneys are even wider inside with lower window sills, I use it for an arm rest. I'm 6'2", 230 lbs and had my 6'5" 270 lb brother in law in there... tight but we managed fine.

Excellent video Mike, thanks for posting. I'm 6'2" 210lbs and have room to spare. When I'm taking Angel Flight passengers, I remove the front RH seat (takes less than 5 minutes) so that they can get in first - works a treat. Also worth mentioning is the seating relative to C of G - Mooneys front and back seats are beautifully balanced against the spar position, so little wonder the baggage area can take up to 120lbs. The only drawback in my opinion is the relatively small entry door - had they put a larger door in place, it would be pretty much spot on.

I never had an issue with the door. My biggest concern is passengers trying to lean on it to get out. On those Angel flights you can spend more time getting people in and out and paperwork than the actual flying cause it goes so fast.

Same cabin volume as a beech bonanza. But people dont want to read. Love my 81 J

The tape doesn't tell the entire story.The Mooney is cramped I have owned 2 of them.The Bonanza is a much more comfortable cabin.The Cessna high performance and Pipers a little better then the Mooney.Its not a myth I have many hours in Mooneys

I really appreciate you making this video. I am currently training to get my pilot license and the club i will join has a mooney m20j. I was curious about a family of 4 fitting comfortably. Im 6'1 and 285lbs.

"Comfortably" is relative. All 4 seat airplanes are much smaller than cars. Often takes 6 seats to make 4 "comfortable." However, I do know that I can sit 4 adults and especially 2 adults and 2 kids just fine. Useful load at or below 1000lbs may be a factor, however, it is super fuel efficient so it helps stretch the fuel better. Plus at the higher cruise speeds you definitely cover a lot more ground than any trainer 1.5-2x faster.

I’m 6’4” and was 270. You’ll fit fine. Al Mooney was a big guy and one of the most often requests you hear on the Mooney forums are for guys who are under 6’ looking for rudder extenders.

How is the view when sitting in the front? I found the view from a Cessna is like that of a car, it feels like you are on a perch. Whereas the view from a Piper, it feels like you are in a tub with just your head sticking out - Piper really puts the "pit" in cockpit. Is the view from a Mooney more like the Cessna (perch) or more like a Piper (pit)? Thanks. Phoenix, AZ.

It’s more like a Mooney. The windshield is more slanted so it is even more limited. Great view of the panel though!

@@archerpiperii2690 Well it’s definitely nothing like a Cessna. You don’t buy a Mooney for local sightseeing flights. Goes so fast there’s hardly time to see anything 😆

Most myths start with the beginning of a model. The 201J is the mid-body. Do you know anyone with a M20c for comparison?

I’ve flown in the front and it felt the same. I’ve sat in one in the back on the ground and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. Easily comfortable for kids and smaller women. Less likely to pack 4 bulky guys in one. Back seat of short body felt more comparable to a skyhawk or Cherokee trainer while the J feels like it has more leg room.

I’m shopping for a x country airplane and I’ve recently sat in a Mooney E (short body). I’m 5’ 8” and I had the pilot seat at 5 notches back to be comfortable. I switched to the back seat. My knees weren’t against the seat back but the lack of leg/foot room forced my knees up high and only ‘the rear end of my rear end’ was actually on the seat. Good for an hour but not a long cross country. Still, there might be enough room for my wife and daughter if the co-pilot seat is a few notches forward. Definitely have to try before I buy.

I have owned 2 Mooneys and 3 Bonanzas the Bonanza has more room in every way.I tell people go sit in the 2 and then makeup your mind.The tape measurer does not tell the hole story.

The correct grammar is "cramped" not crammed.
