This might be my favorite reaction to this episode. Interesting to see a Jewish POV of THAT scene. It's powerful to start with, but I bet there's even more layers from that perspective. So many of your views are spot-on.

Thanks so much 🥰 Yeah, the 'Kippa' in that scene means more than just the a religious symbol. Its the emotional and personal connection with the family and the community... And so much more... I can't really express it in words😅 Someone really understood the weight in that scene And portrayed it perfectly!

8:15 DID is often confused with schizophrenia but it's two very different things. DID is a disorder someone develops through intense long lasting trauma at a young age, as you saw in that episode, where one mind becomes many. Each person in that mind is called an 'alter' and together they form a system (people with only one mind in one body are called singlet). People with DID know that the voice of someone else speaking to them comes from inside their head and is within them. As for Schizophrenia, well first Schizophrenia isn't different people living in one body, and the schizophrenic person never 'becomes someone else'. It's also a mental illness not a disorder often with genetic components, which usually develops during teenage years/early adulthood. Another main difference is that the personal with schizophrenia has a hard time making the difference between voices coming from their head and external voices. They think the 'voices' are people outside their bodies talking to them, not people within them. Hope that helped! :)

1: Hippo Lady is still my favourite. 2: This episode BROKE ME. 3: Marc isn’t schizophrenic, he has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). It’s often caused by childhood trauma (and wow do we have us some of that in this episode!), and THEORETICALLY, there are no upper limit to the number of personalities one can create. Opens up a whole lot of possibilities for where this story might go… 4: My personal theory about Stephen’s pet fish with one fin is that it is a representation of the younger brother Stephen doesn’t remember. The last things that happened before the accident was Randall drawing a fish with only one fin, Marc teasing him about it, and their mother telling Marc to take care of his brother. THAT echo, to take care of him, and the underlying feeling of guilt is so strong that it is present in Stephen as well. So he has a fish with one fin that he takes care of (to the best of his abilities, a bit hard when your body goes on adventures without you from time to time). I have another theory about the fish as well, but I won’t share it yet. After the next episode. :) If the layout of this comment is all wonky, it’s because the app sometimes gets opinions of its own, which makes editing really hard.

I appreciate your reaction to this episode. This show released a month after I was diagnosed with OSDD-1, a version of DID, sometimes called 1A by folks online. This show helped me understand a few things. My amnesia spells for example. I also learned that I am an alter, created 12 years ago. It was the most soul crushing day of my life. But I am trying my best. We go to therapy. Im grateful for this show. I watch a lot of peoples reactions to this episode. Glad I came across yours. You've earned a subscriber.

It's interesting to see reviews from Jews, many are 'angry' about the shiva scene when he slams Kippa*? The scene is very heavy because it relates to belief.

Indeed it's called a Kippa (כיפה in Hebrew) And i can understand why some would be angry - that act could be understood as show of disrespect for God... But we understood it more like a grieving mechanism... Like some people stop believing\blamed god for the Holocaust... A very impactful scene, for sure!

What's interesting about Tawaret leading them to the afterlife is that she isn't a death goddess. She was using Anubis' scales and didn't seem to fully understand what she was supposed to do (note cards, confusion at the scales not balancing). I think this means that Anubis was one of the imprisoned gods in those statues and that's why she is substituting for him. I wonder if this was done for plot reasons in this season (no spoilers for people reading comments but the thing that happens with Layla) or if it was potential setup for the next (possible) season. Not sure, but it was interesting to think about!

28:30 you're absolutely right. I think his father didn't do anything about his wife because he wanted to keep his family together, he wanted to keep the pretense, and that was more important. He was living in willful denial of what was happening to Marc. His dad thought that maybe if he kept giving him lobe he would be enough, it obviously wasn't. I also think the Marc system got send to a psychiatric hospital when they were young, maybe only for a few months. It happened in the comics at that exact same hospital Putnam in Chicago. I think that's why they were in one in that episode, and also why they saw the Doctor as Harrow, becoming they've had bad experience with bad psychiatrists before. It's also easier to send your child away to a psychiatrists hospital and pretend he's in a boarding school than sending your wife there. It's only when Marc was finally leaving that his dad said he'd get help for his wife. Even young Marc said 'you were supposed to fix this, why didn't you?'

I'm binging your MK reactions today and you're crushing it. The one thing I'll add to the comments below is the song at the very end is in Spanish - Mas Alla Del Sol. Apparently it's tradionally a funeral song in some Latin American communities. I don't know if this was Oscar Isaacs input, but that is his heritage so maybe. I agree that this is the best Marvel show.

Awesome reaction! I was really looking forward to your reaction to this episode, primarily because of hope great and emotional it is, but also because I suspected you didn’t one Mark Spector was Jewish (as he is in the comics, as someone else noted). He’s one of a small number of Jewish characters in Marvel, which is funny since Of course Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and others in the early days of Marvel who helped create lots of it are Jewish. (Two others I recall offhand are Ben Grimm, I.e. the Thing in the Fantastic Four and Kitty Pride (Shadowcat) from the X-men, which I hope they keep when they introduce them to the MCU.) At any rate, so much emotional in this scene, but the moment when Marc switches from beating his yarmulke to rocking with it and then changes to Steven is absolutely incredible acting. So incredible. At any rate, I really enjoyed the reaction and look forward to the next episode. Don’t forget it has a post-credit scene.

Btw, Mark has dissociative identity disorder, previously known as multiple personality disorder, which is not the same as schizophrenia. DID apparently happens in young children exposed to prolonged or repeated trauma. Schizophrenia has nothing to do with more than one identity, and it usually happens in late teenage years; the symptoms often include hallucinations (especially auditory, I.e. voices), paranoid delusions, sometimes delusions of grandeur, and free association (thoughts that ramble “randomly”).

I've enjoyed your Moon Knight reactions. 2 quick trivia things. Marc is Jewish of course, but that isn't something they added for the show. It's the same in comics. Also, Disney+ has a Making of Moon Knight documentary. It's very good. At first Oscar Isaac would do only one character on shoot day, so as not to confuse them. But he got so comfortable with it that he could switch in a flash and it fascinated the crew.

All that happened in the Duat and the hippo were 'real', they were in an afterlife dimension. But after the hippo told them to go through their memories to balance the scale, all their memories took form as a psyche ward. The room full of dead bodies was because in Marc's mind, he classified all the deaths as one singular memory rather than multiple different events. They were all real and actually happened in the Duat dimension EXCEPT the office with Dr Harrow. The office was made up in their head to represent each persona's reasoning. Every time a persona is having a hard time processing a memory, their mind went back to the office so they could reason with themselves, and once they're ready, they returned to the memory.

@@thosesiblingss also i interpret the psychiatrist being Dr Harrow because usually psychiatric patients are hostile and vigilant towards their doctor, so they took the form of a villain in Marc/Steven's mind. Choosing Harrow to play as the doctor also makes the audience feel unease as if we're (like Marc/Steven) also being manipulated, when the doctor was genuinely trying to help.

I'm glad you like the show. This episode and the first one were my favorites. I enjoy it when Marvel dives into more complex ideas and generates some interesting conversations around them. I think the shows falter a bit when the superhero stuff comes roaring back, ignoring some of the quieter moments that got us here, to propel the story forward or wrap things up. Curious how you'll feel about the entirety of the series after the finale.
