In all seriousness though, I cannot imagine Jared in the role of Dean. The casting directors nailed it with Jensen and Jared, and there is no doubt in my mind that if they hadn't been cast (in their respective roles) together SPN would not have been so successful.

SuperOhJeez you think he's rewatching it? feels like he's gotten better recently.

Major respect for Jared and Gen’s parenting choices. My parents raised me with all the scientific terminology. It’s a silly thing to create a taboo around, especially in this era where children are maturing earlier and have access to so much information and misinformation.

Hooray for Krista! I was so happy about that comment, because those "clamcakes" were a big sticking point for me. Three days after the episode aired, the husband was like, "you need to let the clamcakes go." Maybe we could lure Jared here with the promise of learning a cool new accent. lol

I want to ask Bob Singer or Eric Kripke about the casting of these two. I've heard the story of them auditioning together countless of times, but I want to know what the pull was. What made them ask Jensen back for Dean instead of Sam? How did they get away with apparently one chemistry read for the two leads?

It's mentioned in the s1 DVD that they thought Jensen fit better for Dean because of his charisma and attitude (those aren't the exact words, been a while since I watched that)

I've definitely watched that, (s1 dvd is a cherished treasure of mine) but I want an updated version of it too, (I also don't remember it readily, but Jensen has said he preferred Dean to Sam even while auditioning, but everyone auditioned for Sam first) like what do they recall about it now, not the thing they rehearesed for the dvd you know what I mean? Like jensen and jared were asked at Paley, but really the question should of gone to Bob imo

I don't remember where I read or hear that (like an interview or something) but kripke said that they didn't find anyone fit for Sam. The only one that they like was Jensen but he was better for Dean. Then one of the executive talk about Jared who was still on Gilmore Girls and they send him the script. After his audition, they were sure that Jared was perfect for Sam and Jensen perfect for Dean. They didn't try anyone else because they didn't want anyone else :p So the only thing to see was the possible chemistry between the two actors. Basicaly if jared and Jensen couldn't act together, Kripke didn't have any plan B

The way they are talking, it sounds as though they had the job before they even walked into the building. I've heard a lot actors say that during the audition process, that there are countless other people there at the same time auditioning for the same role as you. If Jared and Jensen walked into that audition and they were alone... Yeah! The producers of the show more or less set them up and knew it from the get-go that they were the perfect ones for the parts. And how perfect they turned out to be. And as a writer myself, every character I create, I have a mental image of their looks, style, etc... And I'm almost sure that the writer(s) of Supernatural already had an image of what Sam and Dean needed to look like. And apparently, Jared and Jensen fit perfectly. Like I said, it sounds as though they were roped into the auditions without even knowing it. I'm more impressed of how freakin amazing the chemistry between Jared and Jensen turned out. That as well, was one of those luck of the draw type things with the producers and casting director. They can cancel the show tomorrow and J2 could become a duo act on their own because of how well they mesh.... Like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Jared (Jerry) and of course, Jensen (Dean) just like them, feed off of each other.

First of all, thanks for uploading the video. I really love the guys, but I'm from Spain, and even though usually I can understand what they say without problem, in this panel I miss a lot of things, mostly from Jared because he speaks a little bit further from the mic than Jensen so it's is harder to understand what his answers are. Usually I can't understand what the questions are, but I listen to what J2 answer and I can get it because of the context, mostly when the fans don't speak English as a first language, but with this one it's really hard. Also, for me to try to focus and get something about what they are saying I've to close my eyes, which you know, it's not something i like when it's J2 speaking because their facial expressions say as much as their mouth (apart from it being really nice to look at their faces😉) so if any kind soul can make a summary of the most important and interesting things I'd be really thankful. Anyways, thank you for sharing with us.❤

Jo Hunter I guess if there were no kids moving to Vancouver would be a good choice. But they probably wanted their families to grow up in Texas, have friends there, not in a foreign country. The oldests kids are now in school or about to start it. Considering the Js work so many hours a day, they wouldn't be able to spend time with their kids anyway if they lived in Vancouver. Also, if you look at it, they have now many friends in Austin (+ Jared's brother lives there and both Js families live in Texas) , an entire social network built, which wouldn't have happened if they lived in Van.

Not having their families with them also means their attention isn't divided. When they're in Vancouver alone they can focus on work, then switch to fully focussing on their families when they're home. Which is what they mean by 'quality not quantity'. Also, kids need routine. Having their dads come and go at all hours of the day and night would screw that up.
