I made my own material out from a used box cover, 45 pieces of Pistachio shells and 9 pieces of strings. This is a VARIATION of the Original Montessori Material “Spindles” or “Spindle Boxes”.
This exercise can be presented to children ages 2.5 to 3.5 years old
Direct aims:
-To clearly present that each number represents a certain quantity.
-To introduce the concept and value of zero.
-To recognise the natural sequence of numbers.
-To understand that there are no other symbols other than 0 to 9.
Indirect aims:
Further development of human tendencies:
Order, concentration, hand-eye coordination, Independence, Accuracy.
