It wasn't just Miller. To comply with MLS salary cap restrictions, they had to also sell the other best players from their pre-Messi team, including Yedlin, Gregore, Mota, etc. Miami sure could have used those guys yesterday, but instead had a bench full of youth team players. The biggest problem for MLS clubs going up against LigaMx clubs is the lack of depth. Lose a couple of starters to injuries or suspensions and they don't have anyone adequate who can step in. Tata had no choice but to play 3 in the back and with Gressel out of position in the middle because without Redondo, Taylor, Cremaschi, Farias, and even Ruiz, he had no one else he could play in midfield.

Monterrey is a legit team, stadium and city

No way a PROFESSIONAL team can play this bad in a quarter final. I get it’s not at the level of most leagues but that was embarrassing to watch. Not even Messi can save this team.

I say also the U.S. national team should get more games abroad in particularly Latin America. Get friendlies, and major tournaments. The Gold cup should be once every four years, and go to other nations than the U.S. But of course these nations don't have the funds to organize. But Mexico could host it , so do Canada. It doesn't help the U.S. team if they keep playing on American soil. As we see with MLS teams as well.

As an MLS fan I thoroughly enjoyed this. Miami had no business being in this tournament. They got in through the Cash Grab Cup instead of through MLS or the US Open Cup (the latter of which they lost in the finals). All the glazing Garber has done pushing Messi & Miami as if they’re the face of the league by showcasing every preseason match, something that’s never happened for any team. You’ll catch maybe 1 or 2 preseason matches that were part of some preseason tournament. And giving the opening match spot to Miami instead of Columbus the actual MLS champions who pulled off a miracle against Tigres. Miami deserves this and MLS as well for going the greed route (choosing their Cash Grab tournament over the US Open Cup).

Miami can't spend beyond a certain amount on other regular players than any other team even though they have lots of money. This is to make sure that the league maintains parity, so the league doesn't becomes lopsided, like in Spain, where there's really only two dominant clubs: Real Madrid and Barcelona. But this means that the teams can't be as strong in Champions league, unless they raise salary cap limits.

It was the Red Bulls game all over again. Apparently Tata learned nothing from that beat down. How to beat Miami: sit 5 players in front of their back line, wait for them to try and fail to play out the back, score, repeat. Suarez was downright bad tonight. Gressell looked exhausted. Friere and Boca Juniors dude are noticable downgrades from Miller and Yedlin. I applaud Jordi Alba for at least showing some emotions. Monterey is a good team.
