[silent] Early images of Montana mining practices include: downtown Butte; sawmill cutting timber for mine supports; workers going down into a mine; factory machinery; footage from a moving car within a mine; men working in mining tunnels; workers setting charges; workers eating; workers using pick; loading cars and driving them from the tunnel; using phone in a tunnel; men tending a flume; shoeing a horse; a horse pulling mining cars and men through a tunnel; men coming up from a mine; and men bracing a mine tunnel with timber. Fascinating glimpse of how it was. Before air drills it was arm power. The Bell/Diamond mine.
My grandfather George Lester Haerr was chief accountant at the St Joseph Lead Co mine at Hughesville , MT 1927-1930. Fantastic to see this film. I have several photos.

Wow--interesting. A lot more automation than I realized they had in 1924. My Grandad was working about that time in Montana. but I think mainly on the dams. William Allsop. I'm not sure but did I see a man walking away under the "safety first" sign with his arm in a makeshift sling--and another with head bandaged. Couldn't tell. Sandi

The date of the original 35mm film stock is 1924.
OSHA would have a heart attack today!!!!.....Those are REAL men!!!!!!
Still mining copper in Butte....Dennis Washington .the new copper king.😂
