Montana & Idaho Backcountry Flying Part 1

Ok everyone, here is part 1 of our Montana Idaho Trip. We took a two week vacation in my 1954 170B and traveled around the Montana and Idaho backcountry. Shannon and I camped and enjoyed the west for a two week vacation in the airplane. We flew to several grass strips for fuel along the way and had overnight stops at Crystal in Minneapolis and Cow Creek in Montana before arriving at Ryan Field.

Next time you come to Montana don’t stay at Cow Creek stay at Heller farm L51 just 14 miles south east from Cow Creek there’s a First come first serve Cabin there. With beds and a table and it’s right on the river. Very nice spot to relax.

Oh man, that sounds way better than our collapsing tent!! We will keep that in mind for the next time, being by the river sounds nice too!!

What a great start to an awesome sounding adventure. The clouds sitting just above the peaks prior to your Ryan Field arrival look spectacular. I'm glad to have stumbled upon your channel, and happily subscribed 😊

Delightful. We have a 180, totally resonated with the cross country planning algorithm: does the stop have fuel? Does it have grass?

Awesome video looking forward to be next one. How do you think a 170 with 0300 would do getting out of Ryan Field?

It really just depends on that density altitude. On a cool day without a ton of weight in the plane it would do ok. I would plan to go there in the early morning & depart early as well.
