Kalispell here. I know what he means about in LOVE with Montana. I learned a lot from this video and all Montanans should watch it. Really well researched. I am a pilot and the aerial shots were very well done, but they did not fly over Glacier National Park; If you thought this was good, fly over GNP and have your mind blown. Pro Tip: Winters here are not California winters...it will separate the men from the boys..

Allison V.... 1910 would have been a wonderful era in Montana, especially in the Flathead county region and south and west of there.... before all the "Fornian's" (and other's like them) moved in and destroyed it in the ways that they have!! We should have built a fence of our own here, by the mid - 1980's at the latest. Sorry you're not here anymore for whatever reason.

Being born and raised in Montana there is always a fondness for the land that I will always call home. The bad part about Montana is that the economy sucks and unless you want to work a low paying service job you better be independently wealthy or married to someone who is.

Land prices suck now days. They think that land there is suddenly worth more than gold. Only the richest can afford to buy it. It is like they only want Hollyweirds to buy it. No industry. Never was. Never will be. I was dreaming of coming home in retirement. Might not ever happen now.

I lived in Montana for three years between 1961-64. Having moved there from the Boston area, it was a fantastic adventure of exploration. Loved Kalispell and the bright yellow mustard fields on the way to Glacier Nat. Park, back then there were actually glaciers still there. I hunted birds and big game in the Bitterroot Mountains, fished the Missouri River. This was a nostalgic viewing for me and I loved it but they glossed over some important facts about the mining industry at Libby. The town was severely polluted by asbestos mining killing hundreds of residents with mesothelioma and many today still suffer. It was designated an EPA Superfund site and cleanup has been ongoing. Don't know what the status of that cleanup is today but I would not want to visit there. Now in my sixties, I am hoping to find the ways and means to spend time in Montana again, it made an everlasting impression as deep and wide as Montana itself.

I'm glad I discovered "The World From Above", even if it was narrated by an apparent Brit. LOL Actually, I love the Brits. It just seems odd to hear a Brit, if that's what he is, telling us how beautiful and wonderful our Montana is. I've been through western Montana twice, to and from a funeral in northern Idaho, and such a gorgeous trip it was. The scenery was stunning. I'd love to get back there, but age and transport keeps me in the rather boring (compared to western Montana) rolling hills of Missouri. The northwest US is my favorite part of the country, having lived there in my youth and having visited it a number of time growing up. I'm looking forward to watching the other 16 full features.

I have vacationed in the red wood forest north of SF that you mention, it's not dense. Total shade isn't the same as dense vegetation. Have you ever been to a tropical rainforest ? East coast has much more lush and dense forests than what you'll find in California. Tall trees can block the sunlight very well but the ground is bare except for dry bushes. If you can run, it's not a dense forest.

@@maddawgnoll Ok, i see what you mean now that you are specific about the coastal pacific northwest. Initially you were talking about 'California's rainforest', that made me go what ?? I think you are loosing sight that half of California is forested, the other half is hot and arid. When you talk to people who have wet dense forests spreading ALL over their state as in the south east (carolinas, georgia, etc..) we think of populated California as very dry and having a water problem with its only source of water coming from the Colorado river. Even north of SF, Sacramento has some of the record high temperatures across the country. If there are forest fires then it's far far from a rainforest. You couldn't lit a forest fire in the south forests even if you tried.

@@maddawgnoll i need to change what i said. I like what you wrote. I don't understand why so many people flock to cities, unless you are a corrupt wealthy crook who earns money on other's back (banksters, executives mostly) then moving to the city will downgrade your standard of living in every way unless you were hired for a much bigger salary. Somehow public facilities, big streets, impressive buildings give people the impression their lives is improved. Access to more facets of society, greater variety of people, more educated stylish women. But looking at walls and concrete all day, rarely see the sky or smell the plants is hard if you experienced life close to nature. What i meant to say is people usually have an initial bias in favor of where they live unless they are trapped then of course they will hate every bit of it.

Uh... lol... Filming from an airplane is very expensive (fuel) so people these days use Drones, which is much cheaper and inexpensive so Im sure they used a drone. Most drones fly up to 500 feet high & travel as far as 2 miles from where you are at.

The nature surrounding Libby is beautiful, but the town itself is quite depressing. Once the timber mill shut down, the town became plagued with poverty. Asbestos mining was another major industry in the area which has caused contamination of much of the soil.

I grew up near Troy MT , in the Yaak. Most beautiful place in the state imo. I worked as a tour guide at the Libby dam for 2 summers while in High school. The place is far from depressing, especially if you have ever lived in places Stockton ca or Detroit.....

@@yardfowl3149 Isn't it apparent that Libby is a depressing town if you use Stockton and Detroit as points of comparison? If you spent a significant period of time in Libby you might want to get your lung's checked. The asbestosis from the mine has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Libby residents and many more permanently disabled.

Google tryoy mt , Yaak area, you will see that i have no worries about the asbestos problem, a problem which was addressed and dealt with years before i even lived near that area. Have you been to Detroit? of Stockton? i am assuming you haven't. Either way, your opinion is your opinion, and mine is mine.
