Monster Truck Madness (1996) - PC Gameplay
Ойындар
Monster Truck Madness is a racing game developed by Terminal Reality Inc. and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Released in August 1996 exclusively for Microsoft Windows, it was one of the first games ever to support Direct3D, Microsoft’s newly released hardware-accelerated 3D graphics API at the time, as part of DirectX 2.0. As a result of running on specialized hardware, this renderer allowed much higher performance in 3D applications, and so, more complex shader effects and models could be computed faster.
As a monster truck driver, players compete in various off-road events across the United States. The game offers several modes including single race, tournament and drag racing. Each event challenges players to navigate through courses filled with obstacles such as jumps and bumps while managing their truck’s speed and balance to avoid crashes.
The game features a variety of monster trucks to choose from, each with their own unique attributes, such as weight, speed, and durability. The player can also customize their truck with upgrades, such as engine enhancements and tire upgrades, to improve their performance on the track. The game offers a selection of different tracks, each with their own unique layout and obstacles, providing a diverse range of challenges for the player.
As the player progresses through the game's various events and competitions, they earn prize money and unlock new trucks and upgrades. The ultimate goal is to become the top monster truck driver in the world, and the game offers a comprehensive leaderboard system that tracks the player's progress and achievements. With its high-speed thrills and customizable trucks, Monster Truck Madness offers a unique and exciting racing experience for fans of off-road racing and monster trucks alike.

I always did anything BUT race the game. I drove into the lake, crashed into other cars, the vans, audience stand. Drove backwards, drove into signs and haypiles. Memories
I played so many hours of this.

This makes me miss the Windows 95 days. Great times with dialup internet, geocities, and blue screens of death that we'll never get back.
This and Motocross Madness were a huge part of my early teens. Used to play these games for hours, doing very few objectives, and just smashing around the environment with a big sh!t eating grin on my face.
This was the first game I ever played, literally. I was probably 3 years, one of the first memories I have. It was like magic to me, it was the first time my dad let me use the pc and I was stunned, the fact I could go off road, that I would pass through the mud and get slower. It was the moment I fell in love with games
I remember playing this when I’d go to my grandparents house as a kid. So much nostalgia. I was a horrible racer. I didn’t even try to race I’d just drive around and explore. I remember discovering the soccer field with a big ball on one of the maps and being so excited
I’m 29 and my childhood beef with “Carolina Crusher” for always kicking my ass has been reignited 😂

The game had procedurally generated terrain when off road, right? That amazed me back then - my 1st ever experience with the procedural generation in games
As a kid I would get off the road and start driving towards the hill textures, thinking it would eventually lead me to mountains, but it was an endless driving towards plain textures
It was fun to go off track, knock over the port-a-jon and you'd hear someone yell "Hey! I'm still in here!". 😀

@@Karl-me4mh It sure was, a Thrustmaster T2 and I played with it until it died, using Dad's Packard Bell Pro PC in his office. I recall that was a bloody expensive computer at the time. Luckily Dad travelled for months at a time for work, so I didn't have to share too often. I got a wheel upgrade and my own computer a couple years later, when NFS High Stakes came out, because you could get the HSV SV99 and XR8 Falcon. Man that was exiting for a 12yo Aussie kid! Running from the cops in a 300kw HSV, you'd do life in prison nowadays in Australia for that kinda behaviour lol. I wasn't a huge gamer, but as a young hoon I just HAD to have a setup to play that. One day in the not too distant future, I'm going to get my hands on an example of both those cars and complete the dream. I'm not far from being able to justify the purchase now. Although they're not getting any cheaper! Amazing how these things can spark a passion that drives the kid inside for life huh?
The TRI intro is an absolute KILLER.
Man this game brought me hours of fun. Half of the time I didn't bother racing though, and just used to roam around exploring, knocking things over, putting the tough blocks and things on the road so the other trucks hit them. Watching it now, the graphics look worse than I remember them. Quite good for 1996 though.

Wow.. I remember killing this game back in the day... Overkill was always the fastest truck.. Also, there were insane shortcuts, from the top of my memory in that first race...you immediately go off to the right into the grass to checkpoint 1, and then after 6 I remember skipping the road completely and jumping through and over the mountains straight to the finish (among many others). I used to play this for ages. Imagine using the time for something useful :D
Used to love this game my dad had it on his computer best game ever he wouldn’t lemme always play it all the time but when he did it was fun as hell
When the world was cool 🫡 the days.
i got goosebumps from the theme, holy shit what a trip back in time
My greatest triumph as a young PC gamer was being in 3rd/4th place on the last lap of this game, then flying over the field using the ramps(and sometimes other trucks), to soar over the leaders and stick the landing without crashing, right before the finish line and stealing the race. Better graphics and sequels came along. But nothing will ever compare to the crazy push to the limit game physics and novelty of Monster Truck Madness!
This was a favorite when I was younger.
We used to play the 2nd one a lot in the office during after hours.
My brother and I played countless hours of this as kids. The track stuff was boring, we would just get out into the mountains and play tag for hours, doing massive jumps and trying to not stack it while chasing each other.
awesome game for the time
I loved this game!!!!!!!! Give me a off-white tower and windows 98 and Im good

They did not make this game. It was Terminal Reality that did.
Quite sure the game didn't look this smooth on our old compuer back then. As in, it looked more pixelated. It's possible I didn't know how to change the settings back then. Or couldn't. 6:12 - Weird. I do not remember this song from the game. Edit: Yeah, this one doesn't seem to be on the uploaded soundtrack list.
In primary school, year 2 (UK) a teacher once asked me what my favourite type of car was, and I answered 'monster truck' because of this game. They didn't like my answer, I hope they would have if they knew where it came from
