Everytime I hear "who is the monster?" I feel guilty, not because I did something horrible to someone that made me feel bad but because I'm a part of this cruel society, and it's shown in the movie that we become monsters from someone's perspective by doing something we never meant to.

Absolutely. But the principal seemed suspicious and that added to our sense. If she had been even slightly more forthcoming, we may not have attributed malign motives to her behavior. We were set up.

It really reiterated the importance of perspective. Before seeing the teachers side, I thought he was a terrible person. I felt for the mother.

At first I’m very confused on what’s happening but damn the last part of the movie everything make sense and I’ve never cried this much…. It takes time for me move on with this masterpiece 😭😭😭 They’re just wanted to be happy but the world is cruel and won’t understand their feelings 😢 UPDATE: I can’t move on…. With this MASTERPIECE 😭

I live in Charleston, Wv and there's a small theater called the Floralee Cohen theater that's run by the WV independent film festival that rotates 2-3 movies each month on the weekends. This month, Monster is one of the films they're playing. So I've got a couple more weekends to catch it.

In my perspective they have died. In the end when they were running together, there was no gate shown in front of the abounded railway track. I personally think that gate represents a stop to their love and happiness. And in the last scene that gate was not there because they have already died and they eventually found their happiness after death. They were talking about reborn after death. Maybe it is shown that they died in the storm and reborn. But this time there were no gate to stop them from finding their happiness, they run together until they dissappear into the broad daylight.

I really wanna forget this movie and watch it again and again. I watched this movie last week but still can't move on. The story, cinematography and music are amazing. "Were we reborn?" and that blue gate hits really different. "Who's the monster" with aqua soundtrack became my therapy. Such a great work. Worth watching.

I am pretty sure that watching a movie like this,in a cinema/theater,Not from the comfort of your house,would drasticly boost the whole feeling of the movie. There is a premiere of this movie in my country in 2 days! Even tho I watched some time ago on the internet with eng subs I told myself that if there will be a chance I will go to the cinema for it, no matter what! And it's finally happening! We need more films like this. Every question and discussion are raised quietly, between director and a viewer, while story unfolds itself and each character lives in their own bubble, not explaining anything to a viewer and not forcing dialogues to move the plot or some social awareness. Felt like we are watching a real life.

Facts : You the viewer decide if they died or they are still alive. IS your feelings. your eyes . your perspective NO ONE ELSE. Masterpiece movie and music soundtrack !

The movie is the same , different perspective from different people. if we would accept are diffrences in life in people. the world would be a better place to live in :)

I keep crying. I cannot move on. I am so hurt watching them sad and no one understanding them. How can a movie hurts so bad like this. I keep reminding myself that’s they are not real but could not hold my tears. I really feel sad for both boys

A lot of empathy watching this film. Beautiful soundtrack by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto as well. My favorite foreign film this year.

Empathy seems unlikely since you could not have experienced the same things. Sympathy, maybe.

It's been a while since I've watched this and I'm still left heartbroken in many places. This movie is achingly beautiful and I wish I can share it to someone who would understand how it means so much to me.

I saw this movie a few weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it. This movie was a real gut punch. Go see it as blind as you can.

the queer coming-of-age films i've seen until this one are either corny rom-coms or depressive melodramas. Monster is different in a way that it has some sort of encapsulating element that will lure you within its world. You can feel the dampness and coldness, yet also feel its warmth and childlike whimsy.

Just saw this at a film festival, it was sooooo good! Everyone needs to watch it when it comes out

Just finished the movie and wow. I enjoyed every bit of it. One of my twists is the principal, with her part you seriously just have to trust the process. Beautiful movie. 100/10!

Just watched this and had to go to the bathroom from the movie theater to cry, 10/10

My father asked If I wanted to watch this movie with my parents and I‘m so glad I said I would at least watch the beginning. It was truly a masterpiece. I loved how the different perspectives slowly put everything together and also how the camera perspective changed with the point of view. Also I love that it is an open ending so you can choose what happened for yourself. And the love Yori and Minato have for eachother?!

At first it was really confused …but its good i cried at the end when they both were finally happy in there own world…

This movie... this ending... my mind, soul, feelings, and heart are burned to ashes.

Wow.. I really judged the hell out of the teacher then principle😅.. Then the phase 2 came where we get to see the bigger picture...every side has different story...

Every teach needs watch this movie, It's important Everybody in education system needs wath this movie.

This was the best movie, script and soundtrack of 2023. By far!!! So sad it wasnt recognized. In the long run this movie will outrun the others easily.

The dead cat scene, probably answers Yoris question to Minato "are we reborn now" as they were just died but no properly buried, so that's when Minato answerd " no We're still the same" as they didn't reborn.

Me as a mother of a boy this movie touched on many levels. We should never judge by not knowing the story from each side and I deeply believe this movie can open many perspectives towards understanding behaviour of our beloved ones. So little we know

Correct me if i'm wrong, the scene where yori play his toy and swing it, minato's mother and the teacher wanted to open the train deck(?), the train that's becoming their basecame and the 'monster' itself, remind me of TXT Run Away and Magic Island MV TT_TT I don't know I just felt like this movie have a little bit similarities with TXT MVs *oh also about the fire and storm scene, Run Away and Magic Island MV have that scenes too what I want to say is that this MVs want to tell us about the perspective, our true self, freedom and the monster side of our self in other's eyes same as the movie (in my opinion, i'm sorry) :((( SUCH A WONDERFULL WORK!! ❤❤❤

Nah. He keeps running nowhere when Yori gets bullied by his classmates. Don't do anything after listening to Yori's dad said that Yori has a pig brain and will correct him. Don't investigate further and think that Minato is the only bully. Other kids know it and that is why they vote Hori out

I agree. Cried like a baby with Yori and Mugino's scenes but Hori sensei also desrved better. He was getting blamed left and right for something that he didn't do T_T and it also was also shown that he was genuinely concerned with both of them, hence, the scene near the end.

Absolutely recommend this movie. A solid 10/10 . The directors other movies are equally amazing.

First of all as an Asian genre lover I would say Japan always produces many dark movies and this movie is kind of that but with an emotional and gloomy story the children Duo is phenomenal in this movie...

they are friends AND lovers. and no. they're not dead. the director confirmed that they survived but he somehow made the ending ambiguous as a warning for parents to take their children seriously
